New Scenario: Coup D'etat
Sgt.Squarehead replied to MOS:96B2P's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Oh don't worry about that.....I've got plenty more where that one came from! This dude drove into so many target arcs.....It was highly colourful, but was ended by a 40mm grenade: You can probably guess how this ended: And this: Apparently some people consider the number thirteen to be unlucky. -

New Scenario: Coup D'etat
Sgt.Squarehead replied to MOS:96B2P's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Marine? WTF? Ah.....That explains it! Meanwhile in the more conventional variant.....A squad of heroic patriots mercilessly cut down regime mercenaries: Six victims shot in the back (plus one in the front) for no loss.....That's the way to do it! -

Oh yeah! I'm currently hunting armoured cars, moving a 'humanitarian relief' convoy through the backstreets and planning a bank-job.....All at once. -

If they start milling about near the wreck it would suit me quite well.....Rebel forward HQ is not terribly far away and by now EVERYONE has RPGs. -
Afghanistan - The Current Situation

The whole Baluchistan thing is an issue yet to be resolved.....IMHO, leave it in the ground for future generations, we've got enough on our plates already. -

I've lost track of them in the current run (Beta Four), I think the BRDM I destroyed (it burned), may have blocked the road and messed with their pathfinding.....I'm worried I'll bump into the rest of 'em wandering through the backstreets somewhere. -
Hypotheticals of the CMBS game narrative
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Kinophile's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I don't recall any crossfire TBH, just some Banter with @Sublime, plus the usual characters jumping in with both feet, but I've pretty much learned to ignore that. -

Tomahawk can't jettison its cruise section and make it's final attack at supersonic speeds. -

Nope, Kinzhal is a hypersonic air to surface missile, it's basically a horizontally launched Iskander-M slung under a MiG-31, allowing it to use it's boost phase fuel (& launch altitude) for raw speed.....Cheap(ish) simple & deadly, very Russian. For satellite killing you want S-500 Prometey. Don't forget Kalibr.....Now that INF has gone south, they can deploy that weapon from any TEL that can handle 3M54 or 9K728 (I've heard it suggested that the 'treaty-busting' 9K729 actually is a land based variant of Kalibr). -

In this photo released by the official Xinhua news agency, members of China's armed police demonstrate a rapid deployment during an anti-terrorist drill held in Jinan, east China, on Wednesday July 2, 2008, roughly one month ahead of the Beijing Olympic Games. -
Never tried it with mines, but with IEDs (in CM:SF1) it's more or less as you describe: Assign Triggerman and required IEDs to AI Group. Dump in corner of map. Definitely DO NOT put them in a painted 'AI Setup' area, they seem to get stuck there. I don't believe that map 'Setup Zones' have any effect on this behaviour. Now here's the odd bit.....I found you need at lest two AI plans to trigger the jump to the required location (inside a building in my experiments). I used different locations for each plan, but it might be possible to use the same locations for multiple plans (I never checked). When you run the scenario in test mode, you will see the IEDs jump to one of the locations when you click Big Red, but you will need to start a fresh game each time to see the randomisation.....@IanL discovered that the AI Plan is already selected at game start, prior to Big Red being clicked, even though the AI has not acted upon it at that point. My experiments were very much focussed on getting IEDs inside buildings, I've not looked at the wider applications of the 'dual-plan, random setup effect' on fortifications or mines.....But I probably will now. HTH (& makes sense)

Of course these days it's not so easy to tell: Are there any old abandoned shipping containers in Venezuela, I wonder? PS - The treaty that just got abandoned means that thing can now have missiles with 1500km+ range (rather than the current 300km) and nuclear warheads (rather than HE), all completely legally. -

Team vs. Team at a guess? Russian Seperatists vs. Ukrainian Militia? Use the Ukrainian lists for both sides to keep things fair. -

Sgt.Squarehead replied to grungar's topic in CM Final Blitzkrieg Maps and Mods
I'm not dismissing any of them, having made a couple of my own I've got far to much appreciation for the effort involved to do that. But there's something about the CM:FB maps that really does it for me.....I'm using several of them in CM:BS. PS - Iron only here too. -
Some distinctly middle eastern buildings would definitely be a benefit.....There was a thread in the CM:FB area that discovered some of the games can be persuaded to activate dormant building types (windmills in this instance): Wonder if something similar could work for us here.....There are a couple of vaguely suitable Mosques & Minarets in CM:BS.

The maps in CM:FB are what does it for me, they are among the best in any of the stock games.
