  1. Morale loss is a loss of cohesion (if I read in to it properly). Frankly, being switched from the Russian front, into Southern France, 1943, should raise a unit's morale But, as I think was stated, although not the same way, taking a military formation, uprooting it, shipping it a long distance, and then expecting it to retain cohesion, is asking a lot.
  2. My thoughts, regarding first few turns of D-Day. Played German (makes the AI need to be the agressor). AI seemed ok (not making blankets statements just yet). System running the game just fine (despite my earlier troubles). Mouse finger is constantly running amok and risking forcing me to pre order the game My initial thoughts on SC took me about 5 minutes, and I was right. I suspect my first 5 minutes with SC2 will bear up too. Can't save the game? have I missed something? Won't be the end of the world of course, it's just the demo.
  3. No law saying you can't print out pdf files Sometimes, pdf files allow you to just print out the portions you really need in game though, like charts.
  4. ?? I was, what part of thank you for SC2, escaped you? I'll go more indepth when I actually own the game though, if you don't mind. Sheesh.
  5. Yeah you heard me. The graphics in GGWaW have not stopped bothering me. It sucks to look at the screen, regardless of the game under the monitor. And I don't think HoI was genuinely well thought out as a concept right from the start. As much fun as playing War in the Pacific in real time.
  6. Printed manual, nice. I'll pass on it though, if it is really not needed. Anyone here actually find they "needed" the SC1 manual? I mean, really? I printed one out on ordinary 8.5x11, but not sure why. Oh wait, I know, I was at a buddy's, and he has printer ink to blow But, as much as the manual will likely be a quality item (most BF manuals seem to be first rate), I can do without it. Especially, as I really ONLY want the game (not the shiny box or cd). Besides, I plan to go to buddies place, and run my burned to disk copy through his super printer, and make a one of a kind label copy anyways (no one's SC2 will look like mine then hehe). I don't care if there's no special savings going just DD. I can deal with it.
  7. Title says it all Yeah I want the game, but, nah, I am unlikely to buckle and buy if I have to go the shipped through the mail route. Digital download though, odds are I won't last a week resisting. Come on Moon and management, let's not be slow on going to DD on this too. Not all of us enjoy ease of broadband, but for those of us that DO spend money to enjoy broadband, we WANT to use it
  8. Good on Wargamer getting up a review on like what?, the same day? Brief assessment, just enough to say "hey come look at me".
  9. User's video card seems to have been the initial culprit in my case. You would have to release these the same day my computer decides to give me a migraine Oh well, saw the game, saw it running, and don't have any comments to offer at this time beyond I conquered getting demo to run HC. Only remark I can think of, you "might" have gotten too "clever" with the menu functions to the right of screen. Hubert, the reason your SC1 was awesome, was your game interface was so well made. I fear you might have fallen into a trap I see many computer wargame designers fall for, that being senseless graphically cute icons, with sound effects, that really, don't contribute to the game really. But I am sure you will tweak this as well as a few other things.
  10. Tried the re download, no help. I should mention, I think my video card is acting odd, so I am not sure it is the demo absolutely. I will be looking into it today.
  11. Yeah had to happen (especially as it was so easy for me to download too). I get the game going, I select all the usual options, but when game is ready to play, I get this odd message. failed (lost surfaces): Segmentation Violation That is pretty much verbatim. Anyone have any ideas?
  12. It's April now, past the April fools barrier too, still no game. Must be a sunday thing, I thought for sure the forum would be buzzing with complaining
  13. I don't think you have much to worry about Rambo, you seem to sometimes speak with the brashness of youth, you're likely only half my age I bet you have many years left in ya
  14. You guys are lucky If HC did it the way I think it should be done, games would be annouced as "Coming soon" and details of the game's concept would be posted. After that, you might get the occasional detail posted to a journal and it would be all one way discourse ie details posted read them or don't read them but no back and forth discussion. Then one day, you would see an announcement "On sale now" and that would be it Then I might be inclined to think relaxing for a few months as comments came in about the game, and any glitches could be addressed. Then poof out of thin air, a patch if it was possible based on input. I think HC is being extremely nice just hanging out with us eh.
  15. "I can't remember ever having paid for a product before where the suppliers weren't even able to say when you could expect to receive delivery." The guy clearly doesn't play ASL
  16. I am sure Rambo will be useful "after" the game is finished hehe. But I know the man behind the nickname (pzgndr), and he's been involved with quite a few wargames. His name carries a lot of weight with me Darn my typing pointy finger on my right hand is shot. Been putting together some shelf enhancements so I can stagger the models on them and make them more visible. Saw a nice interview over at Wargamer today with Rick Hamilton, it's good reading while we wait.
  17. I haven't become suddenly rich. For that reason, "I can wait". Yes it would be nice if I found a link, right now, alerting me that the demo was NOW available. It would be nice, if I saw a link announcing the digital download for SC2 was now open. But, I can wait. I see all the silly threads/posts, pleading, imploring, begging for news ANY news, of the game and or demo, and I have to chuckle. Guys, life will go on if you're forced to continue playing whatever it is you are playing right now, for another week or month or heck even a year eh. And, when they release the game, insert "much needed patch" demands too. Yes I suspect Hubert will no doubt wake up the day after the game goes on sale, to be greeted with "oh my god, this needs to be fixed immediately" protestations. You ARE ready for that, right HC? I hope so, it will lessen the shock if you have already gotten a reply perfected Anyway. I thought, considering all the "please give it to us now" banter, I would intrude, and post a thread that ran contrary to all that stuff. Today, because I am not playing SC2, yet, I think I will clean up my hobby room, sort out my many games, maybe watch a movie, perhaps read a book, you know, do just about anything, and not panic because hey, yet another day has begun, and the game is still not here yet. I can wait. I'm sure you guys can too
  18. You're an odd dude Rambo The reasons why WW2 has appeal, is it took several years, it involved the entire globe, it involved many many nations, there were plenty of cases where the outcome wasn't certain, it occurred during a time of great innovation at the technological level and that is simply what makes for great simulation potential. Contrast that with simulating Gulf War 1, and you can see, that while WW2 was interesting, some events (GW1) are merely losers getting their butt handed to them on a platter.
  19. Well, naturally, I "want" the AI to be "ok". That's my concession to the guys that will want to play the game solo against the AI. But I am mostly just wanting the game's core mechanics to be solid. The AI doesn't have to be invited into the game. I miss playing my board games solo, always such a hassle finding a decent place to leave A3R set up for a long time hehe. SC2 might be the perfect no dust collecting on it grand strategy option
  20. Fox, please do us a favour, find another forum to occupy your boredom.
  21. I won't have the money today, and I won't have the money tomorrow. Well that is the mature position at any rate Feel sad for the blokes that have to actually hide purchases from the owner err I mean wife In my home I run everything (frankly wish I didn't have to). But I am not going to panic, I can wait, the game arrives when it arrives. I don't do pre order though. Would like to do Digital download of course. But I am not acting until the game is fully and completely on sale on the front page.
  22. Simple is good, extreme detail belongs to the operational down to tactical scale games. It costs resources to execute military operations generally speaking. Over a spac of time supplies WILL get through if they can at all. Third Reich simulated it well enough. It costs X amount of resources to commit to operations on a front on a turn. It cost X amount of resources on each front. That's good enough for me. SC manages funds in the same easy way TR does. You pay for what you wish to do. Build things, research, politics, military operations, strategic warfare. That's the limit of my interest for grand strategy. I don't want to be counting hexes, not relevant to grand strategy. If I have a supply line fine, doesn't matter if it's 5 spaces or 6. But I did like how with TR the player had to actually think about their operations as they were an expense. It cuts down on the mindless aHistorical would never have happened lunacy. Removed from the game the rampant silliness that is possible with basic SC.
  23. I'm just looking forward to a lot of people being able to fiddle a lot and be in a position to offer all of us some neat doodles
  24. "Retail is handy for Getting your Product out there." That depends, if all you want is to "get your product out there" then upload it to a newsgroup, and it sure will "get out there" Retail shelf provides a sort of persistent form of advertisement, but consider the cost, you have to nearly give it away for them to accept it. The point of making a product is to make money off of it, not to allow retail to make money off of it. If the EB Games chain wants to make a lot of money off of games, maybe the EB Games ownership should try making their own bloody game hehe The product advertisement angle can be done, it's all a matter of the how. Bandwidth isn't free. I wonder, would BF consider submitting their demo to the P2P scene? Let the P2P networks should the cost of the bandwidth eh. BF is giving it away free anyway. Shipping out a stack of disks with the demos of the company on launch day to a popular software magazine might be an idea. One shipment in a sizeable batch wouldn't cost a fortune (cds are not THAT expensive after all).
  25. "SWITCH"? Have not encountered that beast yet. Is that set up like Steam? Can you tell me some more about "SWITCH"
