  1. I've played this a couple of times - allied and then axis. I was a bit disappointed playing this as the soviets, as usual, the axis AI is not very good. Playing against the soviet AI was better so you axis players should really enjoy this! Lots of tanks however, if you have a slow system you will spend some time waiting. Handling the panthers takes some experience as they are quite vulnerable on the flanks. All in all, a challenging scenario for the axis player - be prepared to take substantial to heavy tank losses. ;)

    Cheers

  2. Not sure if this is where to ask this but here goes...one thing I've noticed as many others have as well is the graphics quality of the ground in relation to vehicles, houses, trees, etc. What I mean is, there are some awesome graphical representations in this game like for example, a panther or tig however, the vehicle sits on a boring landscape that does not show tire tracks, track tracks, etc. Is this going to be improved on or fixed?

  3. You know...I used to wonder what Donald Sutherland's problem really was in that movie, but after playing a few Bocaage scenerios (AND with Fireflys) I thoroughly understand now - and Gavin Macleod's concerns about running into more tigers in the future was well justified. ...this is just an ordinary 76 millimeter but we add this extension and the krauts think like...maybe it's a 90 millimeter  Did anyone really try this with any of our tanks?

  4. Yes, I see your point however, it wouldn't really be cheating because both sides would have this opportunity and everything would be based on the players decision making process and ability to realize a serious situation or something that needs immediate attention. You would be allowed to do this with only one unit per turn otherwise, this would turn into a real time game. Just something I thought would be interesting to throw around. ;)

  5. Guys, An idea for making this game mor fun - if you could take control of any unit during the play/movie phase, essentially lock on to any of your units and go "manual" so you are allowed to execute any command real time. An example: you click on "go" and then realize one of your tanks is in a tough position and the computer is not doing what you want so, you lock on and go Manual, kind of like panzerelite. I think this would be really cool! Probably be difficult to implement, but worth looking into. On another topic, the russians had some great ideas for smaller but hard hitting vehicles, like the T70 - Awesome little vehicle, I knocked out a panzer III with one! One other note, I thought german elite units did not surrender to russians, that was considered a fate worse than death. well, I captured an elite machine gun crew and then decided to bring up the flamethrower and fried'em - hey, in the briefing zhukhov says he wants no one AND nothing to escape! :D Anyway, thoughts on the new game mode and whether or not this is feasible would be welcome.

  6. This is a great scenario guys! I added a link to a screen shot showing a column of T34's which entered from the southeast behind some straggling german units - as can be seen, they did a helluva job and ripped the hell out of em! :) In real life, those russian tankers must have had wide grins when they saw all those thin-skinned vehicles! .... anyway, I enjoyed scenario because the exact location of the german columns in unknown and they begin to appear in different areas so you kind of just move your forces toward the flags hoping to cut into them when they arrive. And, as the designer said - total confusion due to poor information and the weather! You know what would be very interesting? Design this game so that, at any time you can, if you wish, take personal control of any unit on the board (side you are playing) so in a critical situation, you may pick targets, aim, shoot, move, etc. at your command. So, while you execute commands for the next turn, you are in control of whatever unit you choose - real time. This would probably take a lot of work however, I think this would make the game a lot more fun :)

  7. Hi Guys,

This is a fun scenario and as usual, playing the Russians can be more challenging. The going is tough but I made steady progress right up to the final flag/area. This is probably different depending on your skill level though. At first I thought “hmmm, looks like a platoon of panthers up there” then as I got closer, realized it was an entire company or close to it. I immediately realized that I needed arty support or atleast some heavy mortars to dislodge them a bit but in this game, there is none. I was able to surround the hill on all sides and had T34/85’s, SU100’s in good positions ready to spring forward in a semi-ambush. On the right flank, I had seven T34/85’s hiding, in the middle three, and on the left flank two SU 100’s and three T34’s. On turn 24 they all moved forward in an attempt to confuse the axis from all directions. What happened next was not pleasant. A very sharp and violent exchange ensued leaving 10 of my 15 vehicles knocked out and the remainder withdrawing but with one Panther also eliminated. In retrospect, I probably rushed this attack and should have move my vehicles in the middle and on the left flank closer. So as I said, I think this is a fun scenario and depending on the skill level, this scenario could probably have a completely different outcome. Thoughts?

  8. George,

The game ended on turn 42, I had 4 tanks left although I was starting to make some "head way" on the german left flank with my infantry(my right flank). I'm going to play this again although it won't be as exciting as the first battle - the germans are fewer in number but they are not here to play marbles, obviously as I found out.

  9. Hi George, and thanks!

Yes, I understand your strategy and that is what I was trying to do - send all/most of my armor forward together and at a fast rate that way the germans would have a tougher time with it. But this is where my troops would NOT follow orders! Since when do the russians care about casualties? So, I started sending a few vehicles at a time or into hull down positions, they were then shot up very badly. There are no tigers? When you click on the AFV's about 1 KM away, it says "tiger"... At this point, I don't think it matters any more what they are.

The point is, if the russians show up the next day with 50+ tanks, that's is/was the difference.
