Question about U.S. Armored Infantry battalions
stoat replied to dalem's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
With regards to the assault guns, each AIB had a 3 vehicle platoon as part of the battalion HQ. In September 1944, the offical makeup of this platoon changed from the M8 Scott to the M4/105. So unless a tank battalion would part with its assault gun platoon, the M8 and M4/105 is an either/or proposition. I'm also not sure how many 40mm AA guns were towed into battle, but the number of 40mm guns and M16 AA tracks were equal in each autoweapons platoon in the attached AAA groups. -

TOE for ordnance maintenance company?
stoat replied to pamak1970's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
I meant battalion, not company. I'm looking at a chart of the division train for an AD in the Brittany campaign that gives the numbers of officers and enlisted men in each attatched unit. It would be interesting to see where those 6 men fit in. -

I can get you the breakdown for the organic service company within each tank battalion, but that's not what you asked for. I do have the total strength for the ordnance company, and it is 756 total, 40 officers and 716 enlisted men. -
Why?

As if a curmudgeony old man from the State of Delusion would know anything about my not knowing about anything! And I'm sure Walker would have something to say about an ancient Justicar keeping an eye on a minor. -

Two prostates present I'd say your argument made about as much sense as a fish having a prostate, Nidan1, but that would then mean that it made sense. But it didn't. And a happy Prostate Day to you all. -
I'm reading an account of the German armor/infantry attack on the town of Kommerscheidt. The author details how the American infantrymen were powerless against the German Pz IVs and Vs. The AT mines were easily avoided, the bazooka rounds bounced off, and the rifle grenades were "worse than useless." I would bet that they weren't dedicated AT grenades, though.

stoat, your new profession is off to a poor start. First you must actually have the goods in your grubby little fingers, then you goto your fence. </font> -

unknown outerboarder. I wasn't even here then. Just more proof that intelligence isn't tied to facial hair or uncompleted crafts. -

Are you claiming to know everything about newly discovered fish species, or are you just following Boo's lead in denying everything I say? Dubious course of action, mimicking Boo. -

Maybe you should go rob a bank. If you get away with it you will have a nice bag of cash. If not you will have a bunch of new convict friends who will enjoy your high-pitched titter while passing you about for your cell-block style exams. </font> -

I saw it in a hard source that I may or may not find again, but this has the same info and some illustrations of the weapon types. linky -

And yet his inevitably asinine comments will be presented long before you get around to sending me a turn. -

I'm not how sure the rarity values go? I think 150% is the highest I've ever seen. And yes, the higher the rarity value, the fewer units of that type present in that theater at that time.

Yes, I was indeed very foolish in my skepticism. When the Marines overran the airstrip, they captured one 13mm MG, one 25mm cannon (triple mount), and twelve 75mm flak guns on naval mounts in a traingular setup, 4500 yards to a side. Three inch gun might be the same as the 75mm, considering the navality (new word) of the pieces. I'm guessing that there would have indeed been other emplacements around the islands, but they would have been these types of weapons. -
That's good news. I was just about to lend my money to a nice Nigerian businessman before I read your post.

I'm very skeptical about the flak guns you mention. None of the aforementioned units would have necessarily packed along AA guns, and flak, if present, was not much of an issue among the attacking planes. I'm guessing the two Rufes the YAG maintained were the main air defence. I would say dedicated flak guns would not have showed up until the 38th, 45th, and 1st Battery of the 47th AA Battalions showed up as part of the 35th Brigade's support units. There were a few coast guns on the island, but I'm not sure that they were ever used. They were big (120-170mm), but they were old, and I have no clue when they were brought ashore.
