  1. This is really good. I will purchase this for sure. Thanks for the good times to come.
  2. You should try the demos first. WW2 games are the most enjoyable for me. CMBO,CMBB and CMAK are similar in functions, just different arenas. If you like war strategy games this is a good place to start. They are dated though. But highly addictive, seemingly endless in value. They are universal in playability for the novice to the fanatic. However, the TOW series is a step up in graphics, a little more involved. The last one TOW2 Kursk is the most enjoyable, but check the system specs to be sure your PC can handle the load of this game. Try the demo first.
  3. Okay thanks, I see what I was doing wrong. If I don't use up all my points in the order of battle I will then be grossly out numbered, looks like 3 to 1, just like it should be. Makes for a interesting challenge. I will be enjoying this for awhile.
  4. Lets not abandoned the eastern front please! I’m partial to WW2 and now that this game has gotten so good I am wanting more. So far the campaigns seem to be the best game play. The simple editor little battles aren’t as much fun. I haven’t gotten on the multiplayer yet. But I’m trying. I’ve heard the news and seen the screenshots. “Korea”. Well I’m not so happy about this one. I’ve been to Korea several times and it’s an interesting place, but the historical places where some of the famous battles took place are always on the side of some mountain, and there wasn’t much for mechanized battles that I know of. It was mostly human waves of Chinese storming thru allied lines night after night. Lots of artillery and of course, large scale aerial assaults. I’m ready to buy a expansion pack for TOW2, but I’m gonna skip on buying yet another game that should and will roll over and die
  5. Well I have tried to use the multiplayer and I'm not sure it is working correctly. I followed the directions in the manual, listed my IP in TOW2 Multi Opt. I can connect via a LAN connection. But there's never any servers listed. I can launch a server and play the AI but that's all. So I am also wondering why the AI is so dumb in the multiplayer. They just sweep across the landscape capturing flags and quickly abandoning them. Plus when I set all three players to enemy AI and I'm on my own, shouldn't the enemy have overwhelming fire power against me? It's not the case, the AI just seems to match what I have on the field.
  6. Well I will try to help here. I can't reminder ever wanting to run over buildings. But I would guess if I wanted to do this consistently I would use the storm command(right button top row) and give the tank a little room to get moving first. That should do it. As far as shooting up empty buildings or anything else, that's easy. Just use the Area fire button (middle button top row) and manually target the buildings. I can sense that we are in opposites with what is appealing about this game. I prefer the infantry dynamic over the use of tanks. Actually when they both work together and use their own particular strengths to help win a battle makes this game worth while and playable over and over again. I suggests focusing on just the use of the infantry for awhile, try to learn their limitations and strengths. Master all the controls in the controls panel( understand what they all do). You can play the tutorial in this game which mostly focuses on the infantry and learn how to move up on the enemy infantry. Defeat their flank. Try to play it only using the sneak command for all your movement and you might start to see that your infantry are not weak at all. The Tutorial is defaulted on Easy plus Morel. You should be able to win the tutorial without losing a single soldier.
  7. Yes there is!! See the numbers on the top right of the play screen. Select a group of whatever combo of units(drag a box around them.), press and hold the control button then select a number on the keyboard press and release. Now when you click that number on the top of the screen.(with your mouse) you can quickly access that group
  8. This is it! There are a few games that could be compared graphic wise. But they are all arcade style. Most developers are going to script their games to appeal to the largest audience they can. A game like this will not appeal to every gamer. So I applaud them for making a game like this at all. It's all about sales. There are too few games anymore that are worth while. I found the CMBO, CMBB , CMAK back in I think 2002 and was hooked until the TOW series. The graphics in TOW spoiled the CM series for me. But the TOW series needed lots of polish and FINALLY its near perfect with KURSK. As far as playability/ Realism. Yes there are bugs ingame that need fixing. But it's a fantastic game even if it's alittle broken.
  9. As far as the game play. I have been tinkering with this game for a few weeks now. I kind of had the impression (hope) before I started playing it that the developers had made a combat simulator as close to realistic as it could be. And it was up to me to learn how to make the functions provided work just like they should in a real world battle situation. I can say that I have taken the time to learn and develop the tactics that have already been built into this game. And I am very satisfied with the depth of realism that they have captured. If you approach the game with the understanding that before your first move you need to develop a strategy and make your moves tactically sound. That means always bringing the fire power. Attack the enemy from more than one angle. Use the terrain to your advantage. Use lots of cover fire. This isn’t a arcade / console type style GAME. It’s a simulator. Its really well done. If you haven’t figured out all the controls heres some helpful one’s that I’ve found. Understand all the control functions. Functions are stackable. The move button defaults to Defend. The sneak button defaults to Ambush. A vehicle providing cover fire starts to take to many hits and you start to retreat it, it will still provide cover fire as it backs up unless you stop it before retreat. Attaching the infantry to tanks helps to get them forward with some protection. Attach a tank to the infantry helps the tank get through areas were the enemy could be hidden. The performance of this game has some mixed issues. The biggest problem is the frame rates dropping off. I had this issue. But I think mine was mild compared to what I have read. When I experienced a slow down it seem to be when there was a lot of units on the map all at once. I could run the game perfectly fine on half speed all the time. On normal speed it would get alittle choppy. I did the usual clean up of my pc and trim down the processes, this alone helped a lot. I did some over clocking and it picked up on performance a lot. I’ve been thru the campaigns twice now. The second time is after I got my PC running good. I think the game is running at about 90% from perfect on normal. I can’t say the issue is the game or capability of the PC. 10. HighLight the individual unit, press enter. _________________________________________________________________________ CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic's eyes to improve his vision.
  11. I would love to see a burned out Stalingrad, all the way up to the Volga. Maps full of blown up buildings, empty city streets. Sewer warfare, factory works section. The German 6th Army.
  12. That's awesome. The more you tinker the better it gets. I think actual German tactics had the mger out front and the riflemen in supporting positions. But I prefer the other way around. They seem to respond faster. They snap and shoot at a threat when they are still. Or of course having them spray area fire keeps the enemy pinned very well. You can set the area to wide just like heavy guns, and he"ll spray the whole area, it's awesome. And of course while he's doing this start your flanking. You got it.
  13. A little more about the infantry. First of all there are plenty of times when the tanks can do all the dirty work and I use them pretty much like whats already been said. But when it comes to the infantry, there is a dynamic here. On the first German map I couldn't get it right. The center trenches and town behind it was the trouble spot. Once I finally defeated them I learned that storming around isn't gonna work. A few(German) missions in the game I found myself getting into trouble by AT guns I couldn't see and I couldn't flank far enough without getting picked off by even more AT guns or aircraft. So it was up the middle with Infantry and one tank that I inched up behind the infantry for support. I learned a few things here. Starting with a squad that is trying to move forward. Crouch position and you can use the sneak button, they don't always crawl, they will move slowly in a crouched position. Plus you should only move about a third of the way at a time to where you want to go, when they see the enemy they stop. Now its time to pause(lol). Best thing to do here is bring another squad or attack group up have them attack the position. Messing around with the infantry for awhile I discovered they have quite the arsenal themselves. There are a few different rifle grenades. Its awesome when you find a AT gun with your Infantry. They don't see you and you take them out with a rifle grenade.(also works against mg bunkers and tanks.) Or burn up a enemy with a petrol bomb. While moving if there is a blind corner and you know the enemy is there, throw a nade that way they will retract. And another important thing is have a second line following up. So you have replacements on the ready. You can have a tank following and attach infantry to it so they follow and protect it other. double click the troops and right click on the tank. As your center starts to get deeper your flanks can also start to move up. Then it's back to shooting up the tree line with area fire. Try the different formations also. I use column(tight areas) or wedge(alittle more room) alot when the enemy is close. Don't move around in the open to much.
  14. I finished the entire thing. It's really good. Its a mix of both. I dont want to give anything away. (spoiler)German, There are some battles that rely on the infantry and light vehicles to start the push before the tanks show up. Plus on other maps your tanks will get light up no matter what. Cant see the enemy until infantry in right on top of them. Basic infantry tactics is to leap frog. Move one group up a nibble. Let them cover, move the next a nibble further, let them cover and so on. Have a mobile mger(light up known or possible enemy position ) lay down ground fire for everyone.
