  1. CM is a great game with a complex way of play. Well first off you have to be really patient with this game and the limitations of the tactical AI in what it can do and what it will do, and wont do. Some things to learn just take time learning. But once you learn its behavior, you can use that behavior to get it to do what YOU want. In reference to your question, mg42 at 700meters is really combat inneffective and a waste of ammo. Usually small arms should be used 250 and below range for rifles and around 400 for heavy machineguns. If you would like, you can PM me and Ill be able to show you some more tips that might make you a more happy player.
  2. I also learned that armor penetrations may not always KO a tank instantly. I played around with early war. In CMAK Is this only reflected in solid shot ap rounds? Or will an apbc still blow up the inside of a tank like in BB and KO it in one shot?
  3. what is good about the americans that I should know, what are their competencies?
  4. I just got CMAK. I am a BB player, what new kinds of tactics will I have to learn to make the most use of the relative light armor of the CMAK TO&E. What new features in the engine will I have to adjust my playing style with? In general this game is great, but I seem to have to relearn everything to play well in the desert and scrub.
  5. we think of a 160lb man dropping and its relatively incredulous without a parachute. But what happens when u have a kit, like 60lbs of ammo, provisions, equipment. I fully believe my prof's assertion, but still without a parachute thats really crazy to drop fully equipped. Most of the posts I read talk about this rather early war. Thanks for all the great historical research on this, its really interesting to see how desperate the Soviets were. Either desperate or just really really inventive.
  6. Well my old prof was seriously interested in militaria. He was an ex us reserve colonel in logistics. Philosophy aside, I am very curious about the lack of parachutes for soviet drops. I still want to know if that is substantial or something just bizzare. After the years that is one of the things I remember from his class and it does sound plausible but bizzarre.
  7. I remember I was taught in college in a history class that Russian paratroopers often had poor equipment. What amazed me is that my prof asserted that many of the units did not have parachutes and had to deploy from aircraft by jumping out and hitting the ground. Something like the US military LILO, but from like 100-200feet or so. He also said it was lucky if they fell in a tilled field or something or they would break their bodies. I want to know if anyone knows if this is true.
