  1. I think the major problem for the soviet forces at the start of Operation Barbarossa wasn´t related to the quality of the enlisted men but to their leaders. I have the impression that the soviet system in many cases caused some sort of paralysis in decision making: Leaders didn´t dare take any initiatives without clearance from above, as even the smallest of mistakes were punished severely. This lead to very slow reacting in the soviet army as all reports had to filter from the bottom up - and then all orders had to move from the top down. And of course it didn´t help that Stalin in one of his paranoid fits had purged the majority of the office corps four or five years earlier.
  2. Brilliant analysis there, Broadsword. I believe it´s spot on. At least I know your description of the experience-motivated player fits me perfectly (and yourself, I suspect). :-)
  3. Well, I bought PC Kharkov when it was released three years ago, having high hopes that this would be the new CMBB. I was utterly disappointed. Yes, it had some real improvements over CM, but I really can´t believe the poor quality of the graphics - especially when you consider that CMBB is more than six years older than PC:K. It was like playing with solid cast rubber toy tanks when you´re used to handpainted Airfix models. I played one (1) scenario and decided I liked CMBB better. And it really puzzled me what a former die hard CM scenario designer like Mad Russian saw in Panzer Command. Now I can read it above, and I think I understand him a bit better. But I´ve just checked out the PC:O site - and the graphics still put me off. Now can I have my CM:BN soon, please? ;-)
  4. I hasn´t. I´m pretty sure BFC has stated that this was mainly an east front occurence and thus it probably won¨t be modelled until the east front games. BFC correct me, if I´m wrong. :-)
  5. I would really have liked that feature too. Hopefully in one of the later versions That sounds like sci-fi ;-)
  6. My very first scenario was a D-day scenario made in CMAK. It was huuuuge. I think it involved something like four or five US infantry batallions and 30 to 40 Shermans. Opposite the beach - on the western edge of the map - I had made a thin slice of ground with about 25 arty spotters on - to simulate naval batteries. Not that many germans - most were pillboxes or MG-bunkers - but loads of barbed wire and road blocks on the beach. Each turn took my PC 15 minutes to calculate ("computer player thinking") - and then it was total carnage for one minute. There wasn´t much for me to do as a player except to order my troops to move forward. So it was actually more like watching a movie than playing a game - and it soon became a pretty boring movie (1 minute of carnage, 15 minutes of waiting). Even though my PC now is much faster, I´ve never tried to load the scenario again. And I won´t try recreating it in CMBN for sure.
  7. I dunno. I think there´s a lot of great things in Achtung Panzer, but in my opinion it has two major drawbacks: A horrible user interface and no WEGO. These things are the reason I never play the game, though it´s been on my hard drive for a year. But we all have different tastes, so you do what you want. I personally think you´ll be making a big mistake, as I´m convinced CM:BN will be one of the best WWII games ever. Even without the beaches (I would have liked them too). Your loss, I say. Cheers
  8. No. It´s been scrapped for economic reasons: It wasn´t affordable (sorry, couldn´t resist)
  9. In 2004 I had played Panzer General (I, II and III) for some years and had been dreaming about/looking for a turnbased game that was more focused on the tactical level. One day I came across CMAK in a game store and even though I´m not much for desert warfare, I soon knew that this was what I had been looking for. And when I the year after found CMBB (on sale for around 12 dollars), I knew I had found the real thing. Havent played much else since. Never tried CMBO, though - the graphics put me off. Preordered CMBN immidiately and can´t wait to play it - but the main thing for me will be the east front release.
  10. Well the forests on these pictures look exactly like the forests we have in Denmark. No wonder our ancestors felt so much at home there that they decided to settle and give Normandy its name. The danish forests are mainly beech, though. Are you sure these aren´t too?
  11. OK, now I have to ask. I can no longer hold my tongue, because I really don´t get this movable waypoints debate. I´ve only been playing CM:SF for a couple of months, so maybe I´m missing something, but I really can´t see the problem in CM2. I could understand the problem, if we were talking CM1 games, where the command delay increased significantly with the number of waypoints. But in my experience the command delays in CM2 are so tiny that if your waypoints has become "outdated", you simply delete them and make some new waypoints. I know that is what I do - and I´ve never missed the movable waypoints yet in CM2. And I actually thought I would, when I began playing. So unless there´s something I´m missing, I really don´t see what all the fuss is about? So far I´ve only played CM:SF in veteran mode, mind you. Has this something to do with playing in elite or iron mode?
  12. If I remember correctly, BFC actually coded the game so that you could visibly count the rounds left in the Marder (or whatever) as it was being spent. But as the opponent would be able to do the same, they decided to put that part of the 3D modeling on hold - for the time being (untill it can be coded so it´s only visible to the friendly side). Correct me if I´m wrong, BFC
  13. If you spend a few minutes browsing this forum, you´ll soon discover the answer: Brits and canadians are scheduled for the later modules of the game.
  14. This one is also quite fitting: "Stop now, what´s that sound?"
  15. I´m not sure if this was meant as a joke. But if it isn´t, I´m quite sure that BFC would answer something like "We don´t even have a marketing department" But speaking of ingame video: I´ve got my own little business making video presentations for companies. I´d gladly make some for CM:BN too - and at a very reasonable price. :-) That is of course, if Battlefront is interested
  16. No. But it will be available for wii, provided that you have a wii balance board: You move your Sherman into position by shifting the weight of your feet on the board (driver), whilst pointing at the target with your wii remote (gunner) and shaking your nunchuk rapidly (loader).
  17. One thing, though: The wallpapers in the media section doesn´t seem to be working. I knew it!!! This game is fundamentally flawed!!
  18. Hallelujah. I´ve preordered. Christmas is almost here. :-) This site seems awfully quiet, though, considering the good tidings. Maybe everyone is busy preordering?
  19. Let´s not forget "Enemy at the Gates" either. Impressive Stalingrad movie with a couple of weak points IMO. "Stalingrad", "Das Boot", "Die Brücke" (The bridge) and "Der Untergang" (the Downfall?) will definetely be on my list too. (All german BTW, they make great WWII films) And how come noone´s metioned "Saving private Ryan"? Does that just go without saying? And here´s one to avoid at all costs: "Terror on wheels". Lousy adaptation of Sven Hazel (Hassel)´s questionable novel of same title :-P
  20. Isn´t that what we´re all waiting for?
  21. Hey now, Destraex1: How dare you try to bring this thread on topic again? ;-)
  22. Easy to fix: Just let the french side be controlled by the CM1 AI ;-)
