  1. I'd pay for a DLC that only added troops in NBC gear to be quite honest, and it might draw in a whole new crowd that is into the apocalyptic theme that seems to be so popular (people are weird, what can we say?).

While fighting in a nuclear environment might not be much fun to simulate, dealing with a chemical attack would be quite likely in the CW time frame and was practiced for regularly. As the OP mentioned the WP doctrine planned on fighting through areas of persistant and non-persistant chemical contamination.

  2. It seems that if I try to use the Quick Battle option, and the US Army using either MIX or ARMOR I get a CTD as soon as I select a map and press OK. This happens when I have auto select for the US Army forces.  Also if I try to do player select for the armor forces of the USA I get to the selection screen but if I press "suggested" I get an immediate CTD.

None of the other nationalities seem to have an issue that I've seen so far, it seems to be limited to US ARMY, ARMOR or MIX, FRANCE and the QB automatic or Suggested forces screen.

I removed ALL mods and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

    Version 3.12

  3. Okay the crews are carrying AK-74's, full AK-74's not AKS-74's so the rifle IS modeled and IS in the game. Why could BF not include this model? I simply renamed the M9.mdr file to AKS-74-black.mdr and wallah the troops now carry accurate AK-74's.

The only minor problem is that the buttstock is not visible during some animations from a distance and I am attributing this to the lack of LOD files for the M9 pistol model.

So close to getting it right, any ideas on how to get the LOD files included?

I feel like I'm doing someone elses homework for them :)

  4. How hard can it be to make a pistol animation :D they've had like 4 games to do so! :D I dont mind either I just find it curious considering the other graphical detail they went into.

I agree it doesn't take away from the game that much but it would be like having a Vietnam Conflict game where all of the American troops carried M-4 Carbines instead of M-16's.

They left out probably the most common model of weapon used in the conflict yet included G3's and FN's (both of which look beautiful by the way).

  5. Yes, an unfortunate situation where the actual weapon that is carried is not modeled properly in 3D. It would be nice if we had more time to model all of the weapons properly and provide a lot more animation to make things look quite a bit more realistic. However there has always been a bit of a shortage of things like that for CMx2 series. There are so many possible animations that could be more complete/accurate, but just aren't due to limitations with animation time.

When I exploded the CM:A data file and looked into the AK weapons folder it shows models for the AK-74 weapons and even the texture file is set up for the full stock version. From what you are saying the 3D model is truly no differen't than the AKS-74 model even though it has a differen't name.

I was under the impression that the model was already in the game it just needed some coding to make it appear. Thanks for clearing it up.

  6. Theoretical "CHECHNYA" can be a MOD, now we have Soviets TO&E (it's similar to RA 1994-96) and we have Syrian unconventional forces and mujaheddins. If all it unite and do some graphic mods, may do Chechnya "module"...

would love to see it, but can we at least get the soldiers to carry true AK-74's as opposed to all of them having AKS-74's? ahem

  7. Nice to see, on this forum people who know history of Soviet-Afghanistan war. So if we toking about details may be should look not on mixed AKs, but on some more seriously, for example soviet soldiers don't have bodyarmor ;)

Well maybe it's simulated, in the same way the crews carry AKM's when they should be pistols, you don't see it, or it's modeled incorrectly but the game engine takes it into account.

  8. After messing around with both CM:A and CM:SF and trying to rename some .mdr files I came to the conclusion that the full butt-stock model of the AK-74 has NEVER been implemented in either game. The weapon is modeled, it's listed in the game manual, the troops show that they are equipped with the weapon but in the end they all are carrying AKS's with folding stocks.

Hard to believe our Russian friends at SB missed this one, Lieutenant General Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov would not be happy.

  9. I have yet to find any sim where the AI "plans" are well thought out. The AI is scripted and picks a plan to follow. It's up to the scenario designer to make the plans make tactical sense. I find it a lot more interesting and realistic to create my own scenarios and play them out than to mess with the limited QB.
