  1. Well that didn't take long! He is one of my favorite WW2 generals and you never hear about him.
  2. Can anyone name the only US Army commander to command at Corps level or higher in both the ETO and PTO during WW2?
  3. Never mind I just read your reply to Canton. I also am glad it is included in the game and just missed in the manual.
  4. I just did a quick glance through. Where are the new combat losses explained? Where a level 3 tank attacking a level 1 tank doesn't suffer undue losses.
  5. There are but they are not within 2 tiles of Leningrad
  6. Bill101 You have just given me another reason to anticipate this game!! Thanks for the replies
  7. At some point in the past it was brought up in the forum that the more advanced a unit was tech wise that the more damage it took in combat. Thus a level 5 tank attacking a level 1 enemy tank would take more losses than a level 1 tank attacking another level 1 tank. Or was it something that had to do with over strength units attacking other units? Anyways is this still the case ?
  8. In PDE I have occupied Leningrad with Finn and Swedish forces for months. However the port will not repair past a level 3. Is this a "feature" or bug?
  9. I am in awe of those that write well, it is a skill I doubt I will ever master. Now to the point: What if we add the ability to "buy" tech advances from an allied nation? Something akin to what minors can do that is to say 1 tech level below the selling country? It would give the ability to share tech - at a price. How about the minor having to have at least the number of chits invested in the tech that they wish to purchase and then paying an additional chit that would go to the allied nation? This would simulate the research needed to understand and use the tech but it also gives an expensive way to actually buy tech. Just an idea.
  10. I like the idea of different convoy lanes - not sure how hard it would be to program but you certainly would get more of cat and mouse effect (for example is that DD spotted by Intel on the lane with the convoys on it or is it a decoy?). I like the idea of Intel being linked with technology to determine if a unit "warps" or disperses as the case may be. I also like the idea of different modes for the subs just like the fighters have now I love the fact that surface ships can now raid the convoy lanes On one of these threads I read somewhere that spotting ranges at sea should be reduced. I’m not so sure about that but I would suggest that LRB be giving the anti-sub tech upgrade. I’d also suggest that LRB only be given 1 attack vs. subs as there generally were not a lot on the same station representing multiple aircraft sorties at the same time. As an aside I suggest that the further an aircraft is from its base the less effective the attack should be – not sure if this could be programmed – but it would represent crew fatigue and aircraft attrition on the way to the target - if they were able to find the target over the ocean. Wasn’t it a dive bomber group that followed a lone DD to the Jap carriers at Midway? If that flight had missed the target at least 2 Jap carriers would have remained to fight the USN.
  11. JJR, The easiest thing to do would be to add more RAM to the laptop. If you go to crucial.com they have a utility that will tell you if you can put more RAM in the machine and exactly what type you would need. As for laptops try not to purchase any with a Celeron processor. They are bargain basement chips - hence the low prices. You are running the newest Operating System Windows 7 which requires alot of RAM (not as much as Vista but still more than XP) with a dated processor and I beleive that is why you are seeing such slow speeds. If your laptop has XP drivers then putting XP on it would speed it up also but that would require redoing your whole laptop. When looking for your next laptop look for one with Pentium processor and at least 3 Gb's of RAM - 4 GB if you are running the 64bit version of Windows 7. If price is a factor look for one with an AMD processor but try to stay away from the Celerons.
  12. I like stats - how about on the casualty screen breaking down the destroyed ubits by type? I like the idea about weather - Look at June 6, 1944 they went on that date inspite of weather predictions. How about a percentage chance of finding the weather condition for your opponents turn? Do I counter attack towards Paris in 1944 with my panzers or will the weather leve them exposed? I would also like to see a bit more with the naval rules - surface raiders are huge IMHO but my American fleet was victimized time and again in PTO due to weather grounded all the CAP - I guess this goes back to the weather thing again
  13. I work with Dell computers all day - If you are getting a desktop thay are as good as any but I'd stay away from the laptops!
  14. Yes, yes,yes .......... I hope this releases before March 2010!
  15. Any land or air unit that is destroyed needs a min supply of 5 in SC if you are going to reform it. Something I tried to explain to a few other forum members, but they simply refused to listen to the truth. If it has a supply of 5 or more when destroyed you can reform it (land+air units) at 60% cost and 50% production delay. If you don't believe me check reformation data in the editor. What does this have to do with setup of minor countries?
  16. How is it that my American carrier aircraft make mincemeat out of any Jap fighter it attacks on an island but attacks against tactical attack aircraft is like farting in a windstorm? Same thing seems to be the case when any air attacks any other air unless the attack is against fighters. The carriers making these attacks are on the tactical attack settings but I've even tried using carriers set to air defense and they did not make a dent either. I'm just wondering if these results are to be expected?
  17. 1) Can Axis ships use the arrows from the Red Sea to the Persian Gulf? They did not control Cairo but the did control Basra 2) Intelligence Do your intel hits make it easier or harder for your opponent to research a new technology? If your opponent and you both have the same intel level is it a wash? by this I mean would both sides receive new techs like normal Does your intel level make it harder for your opponent to research intel? If one side receaches intel 5 very early - how would this affect the opponents ability to research new techs? I've been playing this game since its inception, you would think I'd know the answers to these question....
  18. Great suggestion! I'd love to have that information available
  19. Bill101, a well reasoned explanation for your Soviet armour choice - thank you I think what we are seeing here is the classic "what if" vs "historical" argument. I believe what Colin is trying to suggest is that the "what if" options seem to be limited. I not sure if this can ever be fixed to everyone's satisfaction.
  20. I'd have to agree with Colin. In a recent game he had total control of the game but as the USA in 1944 it was easy to dump the money into the diplomacy. I think that since it was so late in the war that the hits I did get were magnified due to Soviet readiness increases anyway. Maybe there is a way to limit the percentage that each hit gets?
  21. Thanks for the replies! I have bookmarked the Patches-Scrolls site. In using the links you provided though I am not able to get to the WAW patch site. My suggestion would be to archive your patches in your Repository section. Why if you are hosting other people's scenarios would you make your customers go to a third party site to download patches for your games? Is it a bandwidth issue or or storage issue? I'm sure the sites get hammered everytime there is a new patch but after the initial frenzy the traffic should be fairly modest considering the size of our wargame community. It seems it would be good for customer service reasons (see unavalibility to get to WAW above) if for nothing else. Again thanks for your usual prompt response! Your team really is the best I've ever encountered in supporting your products!
  22. I just wanted to take the opportunity to point out that if the game were changed so that air or sea attacks from ships could not destroy the last factor of a ground unit this wouldn't be an issue. With the exceptions of islands I would not even allow surface warships to even attack aircraft on land and if they can then they should not be able to destroy the whole unit. Just make it so that land units can attack a coastal hex from sea and advance if victorious - that is what Marines did in WW2. Now I'm not a programmer so there might be very good reasons why these changes can not be implimented but I would love to see these changes at least play tested if it is possible. Or at least a response saying no this is not possible. The Pacific Fleet taking out France is priceless - JJR is certainly creative!
  23. I'm refering to the SC2, SCWAW, PDE, PACWR patches. The only patches I see available to download are the latest patches. Being inclusive does not help if you are only allowed to download v 1.6 for example if the games you were playing is v 1.5. Maybe I'm missing something on the downloads page? Thanks,
  24. Why doesn't Battlefront archive older patches in the repository? For those people who have several games going it can be an issue esspecially in a hardware crash. They go through all the trouble of reinstalling everything but then can't continue games because the older patch is no longer available. Since there is a repository why don't you just put the old patches there? This would prevent your customers from jumping through hoops to find a friend with the old patch. I know space can be an issue for your customers especially with 3 or 4 versions of the same title being on one hard drive but a company as big as Battlefront could certainly afford the disk space. Thanks,
  25. The changes I want to see are the same I've been asking for since SC2 came out. 1) air and naval forces can not destroy the last factor of a ground unit 2) direct invasion - a unit can land directly on top of another unit - combat would result and this is when the last factor of a gound unit is destroyed. The victorious attacking unit then can move inland into the tile. This is what Marine units do. 3) surface units have a chance of intercepting convoys - they wouldn't necesarily do as much damage as a sub does but it would give the "feel" of the Bismark loose in the Atlantic
