  1. Received a reply to my post on the Bottles forum, essentially confirming that Wine does not successfully implement OpenGL. Evidently this has been a long term concern.
  2. I've had many fond memories of "rebuilding" applications and even the full operating system. I've taken to writing installation notes to minimize that headache. I'm currently using Linux Mint. So far, no response on OpenGL in the Bottles forum. Thanks for responding.
  3. From what I can tell, bottles is based on Wine. I will have to undertake an internet search. So far, no response from my bottles forum post.
  4. The demo version of Fortress Italy loaded under bottles but did not run. Received the error message: "Could not initialize OpenGL graphics. Please update your OpenGL drivers." I looked around the various configurations options available with bottles, but did not find an obvious way to fix. I'll make a post on the bottles forum. Any advice from this forum?
  5. Good, suggestion to try a demo. I had not thought of that!!! I have successfully installed and run a few games Window's games from Wargame Design Studio. Thanks for responding.
  6. Glad to see this post. I'm running Linux and recently found out about Bottles, a program that allows Window's games to be played under Linux. I just made a post to ask whether Battlefront games would work with Bottles to facilitate a buying decision.
  7. Recently a program called Bottles was released that allows Window's games to be played under Linux. Many of the Battlefront Games carry the notation: "The game does not work in a virtualized environment (virtual machine)". I'm looking forward to buying a Battlefront game, but before I buy I have two questions: 1) Does Bottles constitute a virtual machine? 2) Has anyone used Bottles with a Battlefront game?
  8. Thanks very much for the response. I have the CD, but I feel a bit disappointed that this game has not been updated. I'll take a pass for now, but will look into other more current games by Battlefront. One reason for my "sudden" interest in Combat Mission Afrika Korps was that Tlller Software, now Wargame Design Studio issued recent upgrades for its "old" games. Thanks again for providing a very informative response.
  9. I bought Combat Mission Afrika Korps many years ago. Enjoyed the game. Currently, the game is not installed as I have gone though several computers over the years. Now, I'm using Linux, but still have one computer that is dual boot with Windows 10. Before installing again, I have been looking through this forum. In the image below, there are two Windows "patch" files, without any explanation. Before doing anything; I was wondering how these "patches" are loaded. Specifically, do they improve any game functionality with Windows as the original version of Afrika Korps appears to be now behind the times.
  10. Still around. Good! I bought "Combat Mission: Africka Korps" when it first came out. Great game, just never got around to playing it as a multi-player game. Sigh. Time flew by. I moved onto Linux (Ubuntu 14.04), so I can't play directly. Still have the ability to boot into MS Windows. I see that there is a "looking for opponents" thread. I'll have to look into it.
  11. I have the ATI Radeon 4350. Installing the fix (below) from Malaspina seems to have solved the text problem. I still need to do the "ALT TAB" though. http://www.battlefront.com/community/attachment.php?attachmentid=384&d=1258381706
  12. I have the ATI 4350. Replacing the BMP files seems to have fixed the video problem identified in this thread. Thanks. I still have the minor issue with having to do the "ALT TAB" key press. At least that's only an irritant. I'll have to look more into that.
  13. I have a 19" viewsonic LCD Monitor. The image seems just fine to me. (but then I have not seen the game on a CRT). I have not experienced any problems. The space saving "feature" of the LCD is really great too.
  14. A switch costs $30. A router/switch $60 A router/switch with firewall $80 I do not know what your configurations are, but the router with firewall would be the "best" starting point should you have/plan a broad band connection to the internet.
  15. Thanks very much for your help. I believe that you have pointed out an obscure point. Though the drivers did not unload, the SIS control panel did. I played the game last night on the Sony Viao and it worked. I have been hesitant about removing the drivers as I have an LCD monitor and without the drivers the monitor reports "Range Error" and doesn't display anything. The FX-5500 video card arrived. I have not installed it yet. CMAK does work with the SIS-650 chipset, so problem solved. So Thanks again.
  16. GOOD NEWS the 3D graphics loaded on the Sony Viao. (Duplicate message from Sony Viao Thread) Since today is Saturday, I had time to go over this issue. I believe the problem was solved, in short, by reloading DIRECTX 9c. The current SIS driver version that I have is 6.14.10.3640. I tried to install the zipped version "sis650_740.zip" but ran into a series of roadblocks. The major one being that the Windows uninstall program would hang. Windows also would not let me overwrite the existing driver. Anyway, as I read the forum messages, one message mentioned DIRECTX. Since nothing else appeared to work, I reloaded DIRECTX 9c off the Microsoft webpage, and CMAK loaded!!!!

  18. It has been a while since I have worked with Windows98SE. From what I rember, from "Safe Mode" you have at least two options. 1. Run File system checker. To do this from "File System Information" => "tools"=>"Files system Checker" Hopefully it will notice that this file is missing and will ask you to restore it. Put the Windows 98SE in the CD drive. 2. The other approach from "Safe Mode", try updating the driver, again with the Windows 98SE CD in the CD drive. Another approach along this line is to use the Hardware Device manager to first remove the video card and then reinstall it. 3. If the Video Card is a retail card, you should have an install disk that could potentially be run in Safe Mode.
  19. Duplicate Reply Post for those following the SIS chipset saga. Bad news for me and my Sony Viao. The SIS video drivers (version 6.14.10.3640) did not work. That does not mean that they may not work with other SIS chipsets. I hope the others are more successful. In the meantime, I await the arrival of the new video card. Many thanks Schrullenhaft. You have provided excellent support eventhough a compatible driver could not be found.

  21. To Leedsunited40: The best I can say is that the WINDOWS update site has been dumbed down to remove the ability of a user to select options. The windows update site did not offer any new video drivers. So I did the "extreme" which was too remove the video drivers from the Sony Viao which had the unfortunate result of an "out of range error" on my LCD monitor. Anyway, I was able, after a while, to get an image on the monitor and I went to the WINDOWS update page, and even with missing drivers, WINDOWS did not detect the need to install the missing video drivers. Rather than deal with this any longer, I have ordered a video card, which should arrive next week.
  22. In early December I found out that CMAK would not work on a Sony Viao computer as it uses the SIS chipset. Since that time, I have been reading of others on the forum, that they too are experiencing the very same problem. I have ordered a video card eVGA GeForce FX5500, 256-A8-N313-AX since I can not get a SIS driver that will work. The card has not yet arrived so I don't know if my problem will be solved. The number of comments raises a couple of suggestions. 1. Can Battlefront post drivers known to work on the support page? 2. Will Battlefront contact SIS to get the problem corrected. Alternatively, can the program be patched to work with the SIS chipset. 3. Going to the Windows update page did not work for me. So far none of the other people who have left messages on this forum has reported sucess in this regard.

  24. "NEIL" Has reported the same problem that I am having. -------------------------------------------------- "I recently bought the CDV anthology...CMBO ran fine and I am really happy with it. However, CMBB and CBAK didn't. It all works until it says 'loading 3d graphics' then that box stays on the screen with the .... flickering; black screen in background but can see labels of places. Am running XP and I deleted the Hotfix mentioned in the suggestions. Also I only have service pack 1 - PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!! I dont have a graphics card as apperently, its incorporated in the processor - Its a celron 2ghz? I think - Not very technically minded. Any help would be great - Neil" -------------------------------------------------- So far the news is not good. I went to the SIS webpage http://www.sis.com/support/index.htm and downloaded their drivers, the video would not display. I tried the Windows update webpage, (after deinstalling the drivers) and windows did not detect the missing driver. So that approach failed. I will see what else I can find, but the solution may be to buy a video card for the AGP slot.
