  1. I like names. Some campaigns are more conducive to following core units than others. Occasionally I come across a unit or team leader that carries forward and gets noticed for heroic deeds. Moreso with tank commanders because there are fewer and their campaign kill counts can really add up. I have to admit I start not unbuttoning those guys or risking them as much as the newbies. Not sure why.
  2. There is one-way spotting as well, no? (I could be wrong) For example seeing out of a clump of bushes at an enemy but he can't see into it or through it. If so maybe this occurs even a tile back from the cover. A unit in cover and behind cover seeing through it because he is in, or adjacent to it. But the enemy in the open looking back won't see dung. Then there is the unit that moves, or shifts facing maybe and suddenly gets lit up like a christmas tree. I think stuff like this is all going on at the same time.
  3. This, because the Leopard would be king of the hill.
  4. I always imagined, or felt the game as a whole operated at a factor 75% to realtime for all vehicles, if that makes any sense. I would rather have that actually, than 100% real time since there is much to process anyways. Maybe I'm off on that, just my perception.
  5. Been watching this. There's always room for another wargame if it stays true to certain concepts, and a few have done that. I play them all. I've read the discussions and it's hard to make out how good this game is or is going to be. The force allocation table seems to be complemented by those who pre-purchased. The discussions around play balance are all over the place. The sudden strike crowd thinks artillery crew should auto generate, why are there no in battle parachute drops, why do the units move so slow. Others want Pershings , I'm fighting Tigers where are the Pershings. On the other hand you have a well informed group of players face palming replies. There may be some unit nerfing going on as well with 88's and Tigers based on some observations . The dev vid captures look amazing. The player screen caps not so much, likely due to toning down settings to accommodate the resources required to play. I expect there will be more user utube reviews at release and it will be a little pricey to start.
  6. Unfortunately that was all too much the reality in the Hurtgen. Local commanders being pressured to advance, limited artillery available or allocated to other units. The blunders from the Hurtgen are well documented but seldom discussed. Not sure if that is the intent or anything to do with this battle, but i beat it. Although I didn't think I would. I am still amazed how the Germans hung on and surrendered with only 18 men left.
  7. Since fraps got out of the business wondering what peoples are using now. I heard bandicam was good. I tried it but all it does is capture the CM2 splash screen. I can be 40 minutes into a game and still the spash screen is what gets captured. So what else is out there. And free.
  8. Works Great! My Geforce auto uploader wants me to register an account and login for drivers now. I figured there must be another way. thanks guys.
  9. I think steam removed this game. Does anybody know if that is so? That would be a first.
  10. We're the Nazis more complex morally? Look at the moral cost of medical advancement. The Japanese invented tetracycline to save their soldiers from veneryl diseases. To create this wonder drug they had to experiment on allied airmen, and pregnant Russian and Chinese women, then perform needless vivisections on the victims to add to the horror. This is pure evil beyond any price. We know the Nazi story more so in the same regard. Morality was absent, not complex.
  11. Just wondering if anybody knows of a safe place to download nvidia geforce drivers, I am really trying to avoid creating an account with nvidia for as long as I can. My drivers are getting quite rusty so if I can find another source that is, well, reputable that would be great.
  12. I'm OK with Real time play, prefer it actually. But do give Wego a look. And every once try it to see if you like it better.
  13. Hmmm if you pay close attention to detail, the graphics are different in terms of location and time. i.e. terrain, some buildings, camo schemes, winter and fall colors. I dunno, I like FB better. Geez here we go with another what's the better apple question.
  14. I would not be surprised. It is in their best interest. I don't have a statistic but I am getting the impression based on the community discussion forums at steam, computer (PC) gaming is making a surge again. I know of people who have started games on consoles, and when they saw the games on PC, actually went out and bought gaming rigs. This includes more features, add ons, DLC, options, with more community and vendor modifications available. The flexibility offered you can't get on a console device. If M$ wants to keep selling a new OS every 2 years without giving them out for free they need a new concept like this. Not to mention many people are already kind of tweaking windows for games already, and that can be a pita even though it equates to lowering background processor overhead, and funneling resources to graphics crunching.
  15. There is a true tank story on the series greatest tank battles behind enemy lines. I've also read about this one in other accounts. It's about the Sherman tank that has a late start from its platoon due to a frozen transmission. Once they get the tank started they never link up. The crew spends the night with their tank parked off to the side of a road with the turret askew and barrel down. They can hear the volksgrenadiers marching past them in the night saying things like panzer kaput. The point is if a tank appears abandoned on the battlefield it is assumed it's for a good reason, panzer kaput. In the heat of battle no one will crawl into the hatch to see if it is still working, unless they are the crew that abandoned it.
  16. Tough question to answer. The one not to start with is easier to answer imho. Don't start with black Sea. I find it unique to the other titles that are ww2 based. My opinion is Italy, or red thunder is a good place to start because they are my favourites.
  17. I'm kinda mod lazy but if you don't mind me asking what exactly does this mod do? I see a soldier status perhaps on the screen, and symbols. It's got me interested, for moment.
  18. In all the years and games I played, I only experienced no melee a problem once. And it will probably never happen again. I remember it was in the Hilltop to Hilltop scenario, one of my favourite btw, very good. Any who, squads were running out of ammo on both sides, then the grenades flew, and then there was nothing left. My bad for not tracking ammo.
  19. The O/p gave an example, and I'm not trying to explain all aspects of his experience. However I have played that camp a few times. When the AI is prepositioned on the defence, especially with a range order, as in no fire before enemy enters X meters its tough for the attacking player to recover from the initial volley. Sometimes they never do. The allied units have a tough time even reaching the buildings and are cautious to nervous or worse before they get there.
  20. They would have to model melee damage as well, not just the animation. On a rare occasion I have had opposing teams in the same room completely out of bullets and frags. Yes for this situation it would be good.
  21. Maybe have switchable Epochs. NATO vs Soviet Union 1984. And instead of adding nations flip the dates ahead 35 years.
  22. If weather conditions are right, as in dry, take a look in the direction of the AT fire and spot the dust cloud after each shot. Use area fire to that location. The guns will suppress and even try to move, crews may move as well. All this might make the gun visible for a kill shot. Grouped area fire is your friend. Best case anyway.
  23. You will probably want to add FO's to the regt hq and heavier howitzers to further simulate regt level support.
  24. Great comparison, and realistic obstacles. Would have liked to have seen how aT34 compared to the panther. Also seeing a hellcat do this would have been interesting since it has an off-road speed advantage over all others.
