  1. You can't talk 1980 music without mentioning the Sinking Ships. Can't believe I'm the first.
  2. You burn through a lot of ammo in a 500m firefight with iron sights. Those are protracted fights that go on for a time, then run out of steam and both sides break contact. Would be fun in the game for small unit infantry battles.
  3. You think you're Mars or something? Norm cracks me up.
  4. that's a real pickle barrel of a shot. I think it happens too often myself. But if it did happen top armor is weak so it would penetrate.
  5. I think its been posted here before but this is a recent 1080p full version. If you don't mid subtitles its a pretty good way to burn off a couple covid hours. youtube: 1944: Final Defense (i don't know why the cover art has a leo 1. The movie does a good job with mocked up stugs, and russian tanks)
  6. Always avoid danger close with air support in this game. It never goes as well like in those viet nam novels I used to read.
  7. Hopefully a platoon assault like your example would not take place unless all the information in the form of a SME order was available. If possible. Perhaps scouts already ascertained what you are up against. What's covering the enemy MG. And then the scenario starts. CM does that pretty good, you can detach the platoon MMG, set up a fire base and hook in with the rest of the platoon as you said. Hopefully you have all the useful information to read prior to battle. That basic text book tactic is taught to infantry section commanders as well, so they have a fundamental understanding, and perhaps a qualification to control fire and movement at a higher level. Applying it to CM depends on the scenario, sometimes you get a text book operation, other times you get a wtf situation with duff intel requiring some adaptive thinking.
  8. Its on promo again for a few days. 68% off. Personally I'm not sure if there is enough strategy for my liking. So kind of curious.
  9. Thanks, I might give it a go. A Scanner Darkly wasn't too bad once I got past that come to think of it.
  10. I was referring to the mentioned fundamentalism and the before/after pictures above of the women in western and religious garb. Some western governments have banned the wearing of Burkas in certain areas and have been taken to court by women who wish to wear them. Sorry maybe out of the context, western values seem to have a reciprocal effect even at home so they may not be embraced abroad.
  11. Interesting how women are fighting to wear the Burka in western countries where it was banned by law. Not sure if that is what you meant.
  12. Anything goes. Check the weekly new game releases and you will find simple 16bit games that have surprisingly overwhelmingly positive reviews. I don't get it myself but its like ImDB reviews: the haters score 1 and the caterer's assistant writes a review at 10. Doesn't mean anything.
  13. Converting your Combat Mission library to Steam would make updates an automatic process. I've taken my old Civilization CD games and others and converted them to my steam library account. Its similar to taking your music CD's and adding them to your iTunes account.
  14. NO its WE GO the resolution of each phase is simultaneous. But not real time (you almost had me there)
  15. If the action takes place simultaneously it is not turn based. Think of chess being turn based, you both don't simultaneously move, or XCOM2 which is classed as turn-based tactical, the player makes all the moves while the AI opponent stays frozen. WEGO, Realtime, and UGOIGO aka tactical turn based. Those are the 3 types. CM definitely is WEGO switchable to Realtime.
  16. Once you have figured all settings that are optimal, I would like to see a screen shot or list. I would like to try these settings as well.
  17. Great Idea @omelet. Kind of like what we have with the canadians speaking Mercan. But it works, which is good enough for me.
  18. I suffered from Montezuma's revenge once. But I was in the middle-east at the time. Go figure.
