  1. "CMBB mods would not have American or CW small arms sounds anyway" Oh, really? Thanks for this helpful post... No, i was saying i searched in the *CMAK* WAV folder and could not find them. The 402-409 wavs are the rifle sounds in cmbb iirc. I wanted to use these in my cmak. But these wav numbers do not exist in the cmak WAV folder, and the garands etc. are also not there, at least i couldn't find them. Does anyone know if and how cmak rifle sounds can be changed? 2. Well, you drop the grenade into the tube, it goes 'plop' and the grenade comes out again... that's about all i know... Since these things are so useful in cm, i just had to ask.
  3. But it seems the designers had been careless about the Sherman's otherwise protection from fire... "Tommykocher" ("Tommy-cookers")the germans called them iirc... and didn't their own crews call them "Ronsons" after a cigarette lighter? Or was that radial engine Sherman a new improved version?
  4. I've got an excellent soundmod for cmbb and wanted to use these wavs to enhance my cmak. In the WAV folder, the german weapons are easy to find, the Mg34/42, MP40 and StG44 share the .wavs with cmbb and were quickly exchanged. I could not, however, find the .wavs for the bolt action rifles (only the sniper rifle, 411.wav iirc), the garands and other allied weapons. Were can i find these or is it impossible to change them? And does the "SonOfTheFather...smallarms"(cmmods.com) soundmod contain them (Awful big download for me)?
  5. Thanks anyway, i didn't know of that tool. Might come in handy.
  6. Well, i guess BTS did some serious research concerning weapons & equipment in cmbb, including molotovs, and if they were used these times, why leave them out? Imagine holding a kerosene-filled bottle with burning cloth in your hand and a hand grenade safely in a bag at your belt. Which one would you throw first? Besides from that, the russians apparently thought the molotov to be an effective AT-Weapon, at least during the early war. Why else would they construct the Apulomet? So there's reason to suppose russian infantry were told to use the molotov against tanks and hand grenades against infantry. Remember- the average WW2 soldier didn't have your cmbb experience-how could he know a molotov isn't effective AT stuff? [ November 12, 2004, 11:18 AM: Message edited by: Krautman ]
  7. I think you had to throw a molotov cocktail down the tank's exhaust pipes in order to be effective. If you could find a weak spot you might immobilize the tank. MIGHT...
  8. Ah thanks- i'm actually embarrassingly unaware of the hotkey commands, sorry.
  9. Recently i had a QB and the random map the editor generated was really great, a perfect example for a reverse-slope defense-capable map. I took the autosave and put it into the "scenarios" folder, but the editor couldn't open it. Any other way to get this map? My cmbb version is cdv 1.03.
  10. My cmbb smoke (artificial/arty smoke) is a thick white layer, and the dust (when a building collapses) is a thick brown layer. This looks neither realistic nor nice, i'd like to have more transparent bmps for that. Anyone knows a mod or the bmp numbers? thx
  11. I hold ATRs in high regard. They can effectively prevent your opponent from scouting/supporting with his PSW or SPW; you don't have to reveal an AT gun to do so, when his infantry is kept down by your MG fire, he'll have to send in his tanks for the task... which is when your AT guns join in... 12. flamingknives wrote "The Bren is heavier than the StG, which absorbs recoil forces,..." which, at ~80m+ distance, surely is a great advantage concerning the accuracy of rapid fire compared to the StG44. But at 40m and less, i'd still prefer a lighter, more maneuverable weapon like the StG. It is not for nothing that the german army (and presumably every other army nowadays)teaches to mainly use single-shot mode, and to switch the assault rifle from single-shot to auto-fire at ~50m and below. "...but is still light enough to be used as a large rifle. The Bipod is less of a requirement than a full fledged GPMG. There's precious few pictures/footage of Brens being used with bipod deployed." This is interesting. So the Bren is rather a big assault rifle than a machine gun, maybe somewhat like the BAR? Does anyone have data concerning lenght and weight? (MG3/42: weight~12,9 kg IIRC, maybe Leopard 2 could give some more accurate data as well as the length, so we could compare with Bren)
  13. flamingknives wrote "...but the Bren is more stable on automatic," Do you mean stability in ROF due to the heavier/thicker barrel compared to the StG44, or easier control during rapid fire? " Lying down with the bipod on at sub-40m mightn't be the best plan in the world either." Well, the Bren needs a bipod too, doesn't it? And the MG3 can be fired from a kneeling or standing position (though only short, controlled bursts, and it requires a STRONG left arm to keep that barrel down), so MG42 and 34 should be usable likewise. However, BTS probably did some testing to the issue, which i admit i didn't(how could i)-they might be correct with those FP values they implemented in their CM games...
  14. Thanks, Robert. You're so busy answering questions about your ROQC right now! But it's good that the feedback helps you to always improve it. Hope you get some plain praise too!
  15. Philippe wrote "Wagner is an interesting alternative to German military music, though I'm of the school that thinks it unfair to associate him with the Nazi Germany." That is true, Wagner himself wasn't really responsible for his offspring holding close ties to Hitler. However, his as well as Hitler's fascination in germanic myths led to the consequent instrumentalization of his music by the N.S. What about Richard Strauß? "Thus spoke Zarathustra" of course is already in use as well... But Nietzsche and his Übermensch idea, along with some of Heidegger's stuff, and of course Rosenberg's, contributed heavily to Nazi "philosophy".
  16. Some stuff from Wagner's "Götterdämmerung" (~"Dusk of the Gods") might be appropriate-the gods, at the height of their strength, challenge the Thursen/Giants, and the apocalyptic battle that will flatten Midgard and Asgard into a giant parking lot begins... His "Walkürenritt" (~"Ride of the Valkyries") is, of course, already in use (Robert Duvall's greatest words: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!")
  17. Good point, Leopard 2. However, it usually takes a second man to quickly get that belt inside, so that the gunner can keep his target focused. flamingknives: the easier control of the ZB/Bren at close range compared to the Mg34 might be a point, yet: 30/28-round mag needs to be exchanged much more often than a belt. And what about the StG44? Same mag capacity as Bren, but has considerably less 40m-firepower- why that? It should be even easier to control than the bren, and the lower penetration power of the short bullet shouldn't be an issue at short range. Interesting discussion so far.
  18. Thanks for your answer, Robert. I renamed my company HQ and the Hauptmann got his additional XP. I then changed the platoon/section leaders designations and inserted "HQ" there, they also got and XP bonus. Is this according to the rules or is the bonus only available to the commanding officer? And the second issue, about player-awarded bravery medals: The core force sheet column 29 was what i had already thought to be where to give the awards, but upon trying to enter "1" or "2" (after the battle, all other parameters had already been typed in), a small window appeared telling me that "protected cells cannot be modified", IIRC. I then tried to give the awards using the favour sheet, but that wasn't it either. I use Open Office, maybe that's the problem? My ROQC version is 2.20.
  19. Alech, could you give me the original english name for the Gebirgsjäger company HQ? (I own the german cmbb, maybe ROQC needs the exact english unit name).
  20. Hi you with that rather strange login name, try this to get RobO's Campaign Generator: http://www.roqc.cdgroup.org/ It is well worth the download, have fun! And if you should find answers to my questions posted above, could you post them here?
  21. This tool is just awesome, it makes excellent use of the opportunities offered by CMBB, to create a year-long campaign with units gaining (or losing) experience and all that you could miss from the original game. I highly recommend it to anyone here, especially to those who don't have a human opponent. Thanks, Robert, for the great work. However, i had some difficulties using the spreadsheets. I'll have to remember them now since i don't have internet at home, but i'll give it a try. In the rules, it is said that the commanding officer gains experience if he performs well in a battle and gains 60 favour or more. This i did in my last battle, and thus i expected my CO to gain XP. I'm leading a Gebirgsjäger Company, and its Hauptmann is, as you might expect, my CO(carrying my last name). In the spreadsheet, he is on top, and is designated as unit type "IT", as are the other platoon/section HQs. Now, The spreadsheet does not recognise him as the CO, not awarding him the hard-earned XP. How can i get the spreadsheet to accept him as the CO? The rules also offer you the opportunity, besides the automatic bravery awards for outstanding performance, to decorate your soldiers yourself in return for some favour points. I command 24 units, and thus am allowed to "buy" max 2 awards with my favor. How do i do that? Neither in the core force sheet nor in the favour sheet, it seems to me. I hope someone can answer these questions. I'm looking forward to starting my next battle. After my first infantry company, fighting in the area between Don and Donetz, was wiped out in minutes by defending smg squads, i now command a Gebirgsjäger unit of army group south. They are doing fine, some of them have already been awarded the EKII for bravery. They expect to arrive in Baku in a couple of weeks, and their commander is already planning for the victory parade in moscow... [ November 03, 2004, 10:17 AM: Message edited by: Krautman ]
  22. I'd agree with poppys, though a higher firepower with an Enfield/M1 rifle would also mean a much higher ammo depletion for the short ranges, and this is modeled neither in CMBO nor in CMAK. With a k98, you'd aim very carefully before firing, thus attaining a higher hit percentage, while when using an M-1 you would be tempted to fire 8 bullets in rapid succession(if the first one won't hit, the second one will etc.), aiming only marginally. IMHO the firepower is represented quite well in the CM games, though i think the russian ppsh-41, the finnish suomi, the czech lmg 37 and its british bren clone are slightly too powerful. The lmgs just can't throw out as much lead with a 30-rounds-mag to justify their high short range firepower, i think.
  23. I'd be careful with the summer armour mods though, i had several tank mods that looked great when only this type of tank was on the map- but one designer's PzII next to another designer's Pz 38 might look strange. The standard tank bmps are nice, and they ensure uniformity. I consider terrain(buildings!) and winter uniform/gun/armor mods as being most important. I do not use gridded terrain, because it looks- well, gridded. Sound mods are great, the original small arms sound a little puny.
  24. Under Undaunted skies, my soldiers, clad in Uniforms designed by Andrew Fox, carry Juju's small arms, pray in Juju's churches, hide in Juju's trenches, conquer Juju's factories, while Tanks A Lot's awesome trees provide cover, and his small buildings offer shelter during the night. Should these be turned to MikeyD's rubble by enemy fire, the soldiers will have to sleep under one of Juju's wooden bridges.
  25. Ya, i know... i feel so EMBARASSED... please, admins, delete this thread...
