  1. Latest info on tcp/ip problem: I have now attempted to run a tcp/ip game with my other son. A tiny game in CMBO. Unsuccessful, but: As the host opponent, I get the tcp/ip message window that we have connected and are loading 3-d graphics. Then as Host, I get the graphics on my computer with the Set Up Phase, TCP/IP ...waiting to download graphics. I can set-up my units, and when I hit go, I get the message that Waiting for opponent to complete orders" At his end, he gets the "enter password" screen, followed by the mission statement. (So somethings are getting through) When he hits the "continue" button, he gets the Flags screen with the message "Downloading 3-D graphics" and nothing more. After about 15 minutes, we get the tcp/ip screen informing us that we have lost the connection and can continue with the autosave... message. I cannot follow the stream of data, as the CMBO grabs the entire screen (although I realized that I can follow the sound if I turn my phone on) and I do not know the sequence of events in the CM tcp/ip program. It might help to have a listing of the steps it takes to set up a tcp/ip game. It may be an apple event, or a file sharing, or a tcp/ip header, etc. problem, but it would help to know what the steps are (if we are not getting into proprietary info) Thanks for listening
  2. 1) Yes we are in 9.2.2 2) Yes we have both tried hosting 3) I will check to see if my son can connect to the old phone access number. I do not think so. 4) I will be helping another son to load CMBO and CBBB this weekend. Then we can check by trying to run a game from my other son to the new location, and from my computer to the new location. That ought to allow us to determine if one of the computers/installed games is at fault. Will update this discussion with the results.
  3. I know that as an Mac user, I hope that the new "engine" will be able to use the scenarios (conversion required?) from the older games. I do not doubt that this would be more difficult to program, but would be ever so nice. PS: we are holding our breaths!
  4. OS 9.2.2 is the last (or at least latest) of the Classic releases. I'm not familiar with the existence of a MacOS 9.2.8. I do beg everyone's pardon. Of course that is 9.2.2 is correct, my son uses 9.2.1. (Got confused as I just added 10.2.8) So one time when you ran into this problem was upon resumption of a game. How was this game played previously, TCP/IP or PBEM ? Which particular game had this problem . We have never used Play by mail. Only the Tcp/ip internet play. CMBO, CMBB, CMAK I assume that currently you're unable to play any of the CM series via TCP/IP, is that correct ? Yes, that is correct. When we had trouble with CMBO, we tried the others and had the same problem. When you attempt to start a new game in any of the CM series you are never able to initially connect (so that the other player 'receiving' the scenario can't make their selections), is that correct ? Yes, We e-mail the url to the other person (depending who is initiating the game). When that person connects to the url given, the host goes to the graphic map with an overlying message that the scenario is being downloaded to the other player. (Note this is not the usual blackbackground box) The other player gets the downloading message in the usual black background box. After about a minute, we both get a "connection failure message, game is aborting, you may restart game using the autosaved game." Do you have any sort of anti-virus utility running in the background (though this is rare on Macs) ? Have you already tried to minimize the extensions and control panels that load up ? With my old ibook, I did have Norton's antivirus running in the background, and never had any problems for about a year until the current problem began. I do not have an antivirus installed on my new i-book (a g3) at this time. We have not tried to minimize Extensions. Has this problem appeared all of a sudden, where before you were able to play CM via TCP/IP with this ISP with no problems ? Yes, well an occasional dropped connection, or sometimes a crash. How long ago was your last TCP/IP game without problems ? About two months now. Have either of you changed or upgraded your systems since you were last able to play via TCP/IP ? Yes, I have upgraded my I-book, but the problem began when I was still using my old I-book, which had run fine before. So it began with the old, and continues with my new machine. Have there been any changes to your network settings or ISP dialup ? I do not think we have changed settings, But my son's dial-up phone numbers have been changed although it is still the same isp. (I suspect that the isp had to divide users among more phone lines.) This happened about the time the problem started, we have contacted the isp, and they say that our connections look proper and functioning.
  5. This happens with the resumption of a game in progress, and when starting a new game. Since we have reinstalled the games, I doubt that it is a corrupted file. It occured when I was on 9.2.2, and continues with 9.2.8 macos. I will have to ask my son when he installed 9.2.8. Let you know when I verify that.
  6. We have the disks, although we have added updates via the internet. We have been using CMBO and a few times CMBB and have tried CMAK this last month once to test it. its strange. like the connection is made and recognized by the program, but it doesn't go forward with fetching the download .
  7. My son and I have been playing TCP/IP games since it first became available. Few problems (rare dropped line, or crash). We both use themacisp.net and have mac computers with bothOSX and 9.2.x installed. We play on 9.2.x. Recently the when we try to connect, the host computer displays the graphics with message downloading to guest, and the guest player gets a downloading message on the tcp/ip window. However, the download never happens, and after about a minute we get the connection failed message. We have tried about everything we know of, including reloading the games (we have all three), and have contacted the ISP who sy everything looks okay with the traffic. Any ideas???
