Rome to Victory Pre-orders are now open
Johnny Canuck replied to BFCElvis's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
While I've been waiting for my pre-order to be shipped, I won a free copy of Close Combat:TBF and decided to buy Armored Brigade to go along with it. Am now in no rush. -
CMSF2 Release Update
Johnny Canuck replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Some people solely play Quick Battle, so that would be a loss of income if they provided that for free. -
They meant september of next year!
Johnny Canuck replied to tavichh's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
The wait is what it is and seems pretty consistent with their MultiMan Publishing counterparts. Not that they like any comparison, but again, it is what it is. -
Happy New Year's Day! 2018 look ahead
Johnny Canuck replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
Disappointing indeed. I own pretty well everything from the CMx2 catalog and 2 copies of CMx1. A developer's blog and/or an occasional update on the homepage would be nice. In the meantime, waiting for an update on their homepage is like watching paint dry, or better yet, a pitch drop experiment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_drop_experiment -
What's the most advanced wargame you can buy?
Johnny Canuck replied to Geckocalypse's topic in General Discussion Forum
CMANO, which is the successor to the Harpoon series is very realistic and there's a few add-ons for it as well. As for WWII based tactical (my favourite), I'm good with the CM series. -
That would be about right, as the only ones I don't have is CM:SF and CM:A. Have also got the 3 CMx1 titles, and bought 2 copies of the CMAK/CMBB bundle.

Is The Few Good Men website down?
Johnny Canuck replied to mjkerner's topic in General Discussion Forum
I'm getting that as well. Ran 'ipconfig /flushdns' Tried again: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/ Got the same error: No input file specified Win10 + Chrome as well as Firefox. -
For single threaded CPU performance comparison, I look here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html As cool as the 7700K is, my 4770K runs at 87% of its' speed. Am happy with that, along with 32G of RAM and an NVidia 1070 (replaced an AMD 7870 late last year).

Like others, I own Graviteam Tactics, however I never did get into it. I feel like I'm more part of the action with the CM games and that the terrain actually HAS an effect. I just don't know with Graviteam.

Any news about CMFI 4.0 release
Johnny Canuck replied to markus544's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
I'm good with this update and will continue to purchase and keep my Combat Mission titles up to date and with all add-ons. . . which happens to include their entire WWII CM catalog, CMX1 included. -
I was hoping that the upgrade would allow us to slide along the back edge of the map when we move the camera back to it. Unfortunately, it still sticks. I would also have like to see a 'Back' or cancel button on the 'Select Combat Force' screen (and any others that don't have it). I always like the ability to go back a screen. I also see that we still need to use CM Helper for automated PBEM. OTOH, I do like the functionality that WAS added in the latest upgrade.

Holy thread resurrection batman. Sorry about that, however, for those who may stumble across it. . . For me, Alt-z did NOT work, however Alt-Shift-Z DID work.

To purchase, go as follows: CMBO http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=6&Itemid=26 CMBB & the Bundle http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=7&Itemid=26 CMAK & the Bundle http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=8&Itemid=26 In my case, the CMx1 and CMx2 WWII based games are like Pokemon. Gotta catch 'em all.

slow load times(still)
Johnny Canuck replied to evo6tme's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I recently bought that 1070 but it hasn't really sped things up much. Otherwise, I love it, as it has now made some other games playable. -

Johnny Canuck replied to evo6tme's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
With the announcement of the NVidia GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, maybe it'll soon be time I switched from my AMD 7870. Not that the AMD is a bad card at all (it's been fine for me), but if switching to NVidia is what it takes to load quicker, then NVidia it is. Note: Have already lowered the 3D settings, etc. . . (on my 4770K CPU with 32G of RAM). -
When Will the Physical Copy Be Delivered?

I completely forgot all about that. Am used to ordering stuff from China, so it's still early days for me. -
Patches - A Real Dog's Breakfast
Johnny Canuck replied to Johnny Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Thanks. I'll pass that along to my buddy. In the meantime, I'm wearing my patch experience medals with pride. I might also start clearing out my CMBN download directories of 100, 101, 110, 111, 200, 201, 212 and so on. . . -
I'm very fortunate to have passed the CMBN Upgrade process on my computers, however a less computer savvy associate has not. We had both ordered CMBN when it first came out and I patched as the patches came out and after some effort, managed to re-install and re-patch when I got a new computer. I notice that my store account has my purchase history, which goes from 1.0 through to 3.0, which is nice. Then I noticed http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/127908 My buddy won't make it through that dog's breakfast of an upgrade process, which probably took considerable time to research and compile. My recommendation is that if someone has bought 1.0 through to 3.0, that they should just be able to download 3.0 whole and not go through that pain. In the meantime, I submitted a 'rant' ticket to the fine folks at BF.

Stopping at the Edge of the Map - Issue

Thanks Rake. I figured the final answer would be just as you said. -

Stopping at the Edge of the Map - Issue
Johnny Canuck replied to Johnny Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Well, I had an OS crash so I just re-installed everything and tried this again with the same results. Easiest way to replicate it is to: - Go to the middle of a map - Back up to an edge - Zoom out somewhat (optional) - Hold down right mouse button and move to the right in order to rotate the map counter clockwise, let's say 30 degrees. - Now press the 'D' key in order to scroll the map to the right. You should only be able to scroll to the left. -
I often hit the edge of the map when scrolling around the battlefield, which is to be expected. What strikes me as odd is that when I do so, the scrolling just stops, like I'm stuck to it. I'll then have to back away from the edge in order to continue scrolling around. It's quite aggravating. Instead of just stopping, why not allow scrolling along the edge of the map? Think solid but slippery map edge.

CMBO and CMAK on Windows 8 OS ???
Johnny Canuck replied to foamy's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I'd been mucking with 3D options, compatability options, all to no avail. I kept searching and found another thread here that mentioned pressing Alt-Tab. So, I Alt-Tab'ed out of CMBB and then back into it. . and it's now working. One would think that if Battlefront is still selling CMAK/CMBB, that they would provide a patch for that. . . So, I guess we're stuck with 1.04 and the Alt-tab hack, which is better than the slideshow I was seeing. -
CMBO and CMAK on Windows 8 OS ???
Johnny Canuck replied to foamy's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
That CMAK/CMBB bundle I bought a while back (which worked on Win 7) sure runs horribly on my (relatively new) Win 8.1 computer. That would be a 4770K CPU, 32G of RAM and an AMD7870 GPU. The graphics just chugs along. . . to the point of being unusable. With the DRM issue's I've encountered, the effort in trying to install it on my 5 year old laptop (which also runs Win 8.1) is probably not worthwhile. Ugh! Update: Just upgraded video drivers and still no luck. -
I haven't found a way either. It's unfortunate, as X-Plane, another OpenGL based program does this quite well. Oh, I would think that X-Plane can have a LOT more animation than CMBN.
