1. hhahhahahahaahha! LMAO... That was good one JJ
2. Thanks a lot Terif. Curry was playing against me in that game. I didn't have +50 units, actually I just counted them; There was 25 units +2 HQ's. One German unit was in two hexes of Rostov and another unit was two hexes of Voronezh. And like said earlier, Moscow was already taken by the Germans. I guess that it's either a bug, or my very very bad luck
3. Yes, it must be a bug if the Hq didn't disappear but the airfleets did
4. Sweden had bigger airforce than Finland or Norway. Finnish airforce had 114 old planes
5. Oh come now! I merely stated one blunder in a series. Had Hitler really pressed the Invasion of Britain (Sea Lion) instead of dickin' with Russia, and probably at some time became successful, I ask you, "Where would the Normandy Invasion have com from?". What I'm saying is, had Germany won the Battle of Britain, all of Europe would be speaking German right now. There would have been no African campaign, no Invasion of Italy, etc... Hitler blundered in strategic decisions in going after London when he had the RAF in serious disarray and then allowing them to regroup. All because a lone He-111 accidently dropped their load on London. Operation Barbarossa was perhaps the biggest blunder. Hitler didn't finish the job on his western flank! And remember, the U.S. didn't join the War until *JAPAN* gave FDR an excuss. The Battle of Britain was in '40, we didn't join until almost '42. For the record, I only related Johnson to Hitler because Germany's military leaders couldn't do anything without Hitler's permission. So leave wars up to the generals and not the politians. Gulf War is another example. Pres. Bush limited our objective and so ten years later we're still dickin' around with Saddam!! Thank you very much. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. Patton
6. Das Boot has to have the most realistic depth charge sequences I've ever seen in a submarine movie. It's especially intense when viewing the Director's Cut with 8 tracks of Digital Surround Sound. Just to get a fact out, total running time is 209 min. (3 hr 29 min).
7. A fair analogy here? HITLER is to GERMANY is to WORLD WAR II **as** JOHNSON is to UNITED STATES is to VIETNAM. The truth of matter of fact is that Germany could have easily won the War hadn't Hitler used his overwhelming ego to blunder the grand strategies of warfare THAT Pres. Johnson did in running the Vietnam War politically for the U.S. It was said once that, "Our boys over there can't bomb an outhouse without the President's say so." Hitler screwed up so many times by jumping in a river of **** without a paddle. If he would have let his generals run the war they could have defended the invasion by bringing in those Panzer Divisions that Hitler wanted to reserve for the "real" invasion at Calais
8.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: At some point we HAVE to say "good enough" or the game will NEVER ship. Simple as that. Steve

I think Steve is right here. Let us let BTS finish up the game with what they got and then if we still want tweaks to some things, then WAIT FOR A PATCH!! I mean it's like you guys never downloaded a patch before!! One thing I did see as far as the AI goes is in vehicle movement. I was playing Reisberg as the Americans and I was trying to snake my tanks thru the woods, which clearly had enough clear space between the 'woods' tiles and they wouldn't go thru them. I hope that this has been fixed in the release version. Judge by screen shots around the web, looks like it has, but just wanna mention that. Also is there going to be a click and drag selection box for unit so that you don't have to select each and every individual bazooka, MG, HQ, etc. Basically do it by command and control. Say like select a HQ and every unit attched will "follow" just like one of the previous posts said.
9. GEEZ!! I've created a monster of a thread here! Yes, I am too anxiously awaiting the additional theaters. Can't wait to slug it out with BT-7s, T-28s, T-34s and such. **STEVE**, are you all planning a '39 Poland, '40 France, and maybe a Sea Lion theater package in one of your later installments? Also I'd like to see in the East front installment, other nationalities like Rumania, Poland, Hungary, '39 Finnish/Russian conflict. (Basically what Talonsoft had in East Front II.) ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. Patton
10. Sorry BTS and Steve & Charles RANT MODE BACK ON, but a good point in defense of BTS Back to the Real Time question. Have any of you ever played Warzone 2100? (The first RT 3D game I've seen.) All this game amounted to was to amass a huge force of heavy tanks and to go around the map in a clockwise or counter-clockwise circle and obliterate the enemy bases. What's the fun in that. Just click away on targets and there ya go! In a order/resolution phased game you have the ability to set up carefully layed-out plans or ambushes and such where it is most advantageous to have a "paused" state. Just think of it as, how does it go, hours and hours of shear boredom, followed by mear seconds of shear terror. Think of CM's orders phase to those waiting periods and the execution phase as those moments of terror. Besides as some battles may go, you may only need to command a flank of troops while the other flank just sits there guarding something. I mean what is the issue about RT? Is it the lack of control over your units for those 60 seconds? If so, that issue was addressed in the FAQ on the Combat Mission page. To me, that aspect recreates the true Fog of War of what happens in combat. "No plan survives contact with the enemy." That's what I like about CM's AI in that it improvises your orders in order to survive. Wouldn't you want your Tiger that is ordered to fire at an infantry group to swith targets to an M18 Hellcat that pops up in its LOS? The old V for Victory series opperated the same way. Orders phase and execution phase. Just because this 3D wargame is well beyond the 2D Hex grid 'chit' games doesn't mean it has to be Realtime. I think the problem is that today's gamers are spoiled on RT and FPS games that they have forgotten/lack the attention span it takes to succesfully play a "turn-based" game and love it. However, I still like RT games, 'cause I'm probably going to get Star Trek: New Worlds. But like mention in a previous message, it's hard to think and click quick enough to play those sort of games. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. 11. **BEWARE** RANT mode ENABLED Okay guys, as far as the smoke issue goes, Steve's right. Let CM be CM. Yes, I've played Panzer Elite with the cool terrain graphics and SpFX **BUT** you know what? I got bored of it after a while because it all boiled down to Panthers or Tigers going after Shermans. With CM huge diversity of Armored Vehicles modeled very similarly to Panzer Elite minus the suspension effects. CM will be a much better game because of several reasons. 1. For one thing, I don't really consider CM as turn-based. It's more of Order Phase and Resolution Phase. As stated many times before, this is necessary for well thought-out tactics. I have several real-time games and they piss me off because sh*t happens off screen that I can't see and do anything about. Mainly because today's AI is still not powerful enough for all the units to do what is necessary to survive **UNTIL** CM has come along! 2. Secondly with all of the nationalities and vehicles being portrayed, I think we should give BTS their Kudos for all the research done into modeling all these. PLUS you get to control all of these, unlike Panzer Elite where you're limited to just the MBTs. 3. I'm especially interested in the add-ons planned for expanded theaters like North Africa, Italy, & Russian Front. So let us all just chill, and let BTS finish the game for all to enjoy. P.S. Yes, I'm also guilty for ranting on the smoke issue, but as I keep reading comments about it, it's really not necessary for great gameplay. Also, the full movie playback would be a great feature. If not in the initial release but in a patch would be grateful. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. 12. That's what I thought that at first too. The one that they knocked out with Molotovs might be, but the other one that Sgt. (Tom Sizemore) shot with the bazooka looks like what I suggested earlier-a JagdPz IV. I could be wrong though. We'll just have to wait and see out BTS models those vehicles in CM, 'cause I've looked this up in the Unit Data tables in Talonsoft's **** Front series and couldn't determine "by the preponderous amounts of evidence" either way.
13. OH! By the way... Why is it that Sierra only suppports 3Dfx's Glide drivers? I traded in Total Annihilation: Kingdom's for Red Baron 3D, except that I have a TNT2 card and, of course, only runs Red Baron 3D in software mode. Needless to say it looks like Bantha Poodoo.
14. Ha! That sounds familiar! Several years ago when I tried to Auto-Update Sierra's Lord's of the Realm 2, the auto-update actually corrupted the .exe file and I had to re-install the original game! Ha!
15. As far as the Smoke issue goes, I agree with JonS. Smoke screens are a vital part in battlefield tactics. ACTUALLY, those plumes of smoke don't have to bellow that high! I would like to see shorter, more detailed plumes or puffs. The Fire graphics around destroyed vehicles is adequate for CM and for what it's simulating. But the squared-off and hollow fire around terrain is a bit cheesy. Actually, as for graphic tweaks, I'd like a small tweak to the tracers...They are a bit too thick, I think. That shouldn't be too hard to fix. And the tank and anti-tank projectiles look a bit hokey. Any way to improve those? By the way, any body know for sure what those "Panzer" vehicles in Pvt. Ryan were in the last town battle? I know the two Tigers, but after looking a little closer, just this afternoon, they look like JagdPz IVs. (Pz IV chassis w/open-topped Anti-tank gun) As for all you ninnies out there complaining about CPU speed...if you can't afford at least a 400 MHz CPU now, I feel for ya. That's the bare minimum speed now for new systems! I've got a Celeron-433 w/128 MB w/32 MB TNT2 Diamond Viper V770. CM1, 2, 3, 4, etc would run just fine on this. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. Patton
16. OK, thanks guys. I knew of those features, but they didn't register as solutions to my problems. Ha, *slap my forehead* Ha. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. Patton
17. I've just started playing the Demo and this game is one that my friend and I have been longing for for a long time! Talonsoft came close with its Campaign Series with its isometric view, but lacked the real time combat feature. Microsoft did the Close Combat series with its real time aspect but outdated top-down look. I first saw advertisments for Combat Mission early in its development and wasn't sure of its point and future. It looked a bit outdated before it got started, but with this demo and latest screenshots, I am totally impressed! The vehicle graphics look awesome! Bitmapped or PCX'ed textured polygons have revolutionized 3D games and applications to the utmost realism. But what further impressed me was that treads actually move. However, and I'm basing this on the beta demo, but the explosion graphics and tank shots aren't too impressive. The need to be *ha* bitmapped fiery bellows. Also a feature that should be a MUST-have is a Jump Map that shows your units and known enemy units as dots in a top-down miniature map at the bottom of the screen. *It's hard to find your troops sometimes!* Thanks, that's all I can think of right now. ------------------ Wars are not won by dying for your country; Wars are won by making the other poor bastard die for his country.--George S. Patton
