  1. I'm using Windows 7 currently and wondered if any other problems are known in blitzkrieg, as the D-Day demo seems like good fun apart from the error. Is D-Day available in later games also?
  2. I've just experienced an error with the Blitzkrieg demo which may or may not be a problem with the full version:- [09/30/2014 4:04:45; 6.1.7601; 1366x768x32(1); v1.09 Demo] FAILED(draw_sprite_on_map_surface): Segmentation violation This happened while playing as the AXIS on the D-Day game while clicking on the mini map or also on the war map. Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions.
  3. Yes we all know what happened to the Soviets and there methods in Afghanistan, or perhaps you don't? Yes the CIA supported the Muhajadeen during the 80's in the fight against communism and one Osama Bin Laden in the process, what goes around comes around. Now they are known as the Taliban and using weapons/tactics obtained and learned from us. What else is new? History repeats itself as far as Afghanistan is concerned and man never seems to learn from it, hence the wars in the world today. Anyway this thread has gone off topic once again so please leave it there as I won't be saying any more.
  4. I don't know about any future scenario in Syria happening/not happening but I'm pretty sure any drop of nuclear radiation within Germany or the EU would most likely result in the west Nukeing Syria. Saddam Hussein refrained from using chemical weapons on the west during the invasion of Iraq due to this very reason, and who can blame him.
  5. The initial Iraq operation was a success but admittedly the powers that be never thought through the aftermath of the situation. Afghanistan is and always has been a difficult country for any nation that dared to invade, occupy, attack, etc, and yes once again mistakes have been made here, but also a lot of progress has been made in helping women getting the education they would otherwise be denied under the Taliban. Also more towns and villages are once again trading but this wasn't the case previously, so yes the British and Americans have made a difference. Let's not forget that the soldiers on the ground do an amazing job with a huge amount of bravery thrown in, they might question what's right or wrong amongst themselves but they are highly trained and get on with the job at hand, and can be relied upon, unlike the politicians of the world. As for the political situation, that's for the politicians to determine as I hate politics - period.
  6. According to Sky News today and one Naval officer we can (the UK) barely afford the Libyan involvement and it could easily amount to a Billion pounds within the next few months. If a decision is ever made with regard to Syria and NATO, then of course let those countries who are part of NATO and not pulling there weight do there part for a change, the UK, US, France can not, and should not be required to do the work of other NATO members. I also think the UK and US in particular have become a victim of our own success over the years and taken for granted by politicians and other NATO members, but that's another story.
  7. But then the brain in the jar will be revealed to all, the competition towards BFC will be rampant and no more games to look forward to from our beloved developer -AS IF!!!
  8. I want my anti tank weapon "PIAT" please and the ability to fire from buildings will be welcome, if not shame on you BFC. I'm reallly looking forward to getting my hands on CMBN and future modules (BRITS), thanks for all your work on this BFC.
  9. Also remember that Gaddaffi's forces have swapped their Amour vehicles in some cases and are now driving around in cars, pickups etc similar to the rebels in an obvious attempt at fooling or making life harder for NATO aircraft.
  10. Enjoyed the AAR guys, congrats Bill. The German tank crews with headphones looked a little comical I must say, anyone would think they were being used to help silence the deafening sound of their lugers. Tank tread marks (although I know it's not a necessity) but not one in sight, is this a planned feature in time? Otherwise the game is looking fantastic, well done to all at BFC.
  11. Recently I have been playing RUSE on PS3 as I don't have a PC as yet, still got my old trusty Mac. I only wish BFC were able to make an offering on console one day, of course it won't happen but who knows. RUSE is a fun game but not to be taken as seriously as CM of course, and it also has a number of things I don't like but it's a welcome game indeed on PS3. I look forward to more games similar to it in future hopefully and perhaps with more options and features.
  12. I haven't read all of this thread and so this may or may not have been mentioned, but let's not forget the general fear the average German soldier had also. No, not for the Americans, British etc, but for the Red Army. This factor alone may greatly contributed to the Germans determined and desperate attempt in the Normandy campaign to see off the western allies (so to speak) and then go all out against the impending Russian juggernaut in defense of the Fatherland. I just feel a lot of talk is on the western allies, let's not forget Russia who really enabled the Normandy campaign in my mind. However I'm no grog and don't claim to be, this is just my opinion. Some fun quotes:- "They are not so hot yet, but they are learning and they'll make a first class army before long." -Stalin "The reason the American Army does so well in wartime is because war is chaos, and the American Army practices it on a daily basis." -unknown German General "We shall show no mercy, but we shall not ask for it." -Winston Churchill "Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything from winning." -Erwin Rommel "Make love not war." -John Lennon;)
  13. Savour the new intro music, press start game, select the earliest scenario, absorb the scenario briefing, wait in anticipation for the start of a new era of CM greatness...can it be anything less?
  14. If BFC ever do decide to allow the option of picking up Panzerfausts in CMBN I would like to see there be a risk associated with the action i.e. Booby Trap of some kind, but it could also be random, or not as the case may be. So all those people thinking they would be able to pick up every enemy weapon will need to think again or suffer the consequences.
  15. I was thinking the very same thing just last night while looking at the new campaign screenshots. However if nothing else those fingers could always be used to clean the barrels on their weapons, or something else for that matter. Have faith in BFC I'm sure they will change this later on in the series or CMX3?.
  16. Back in 2002 I first came across CMBO as a demo version on cd with Mac Format magazine. Those three men representing a squad turning their heads from side to side still has fond memories for me even now, apart from the game itself, which was and probably still is the best tactical WW2 computer game available. I own the trilogy of the CMX1 based games and the new CMX2 Normandy game will continue to lead the way as the competition is none existent as far as I'm aware. Now I just need to start saving for a new computer to enable be to experience CMX2.
  17. I have previously read through Jons & Elvis's DARs (impressive read), but kudos to BFC and what looks to be a promising start for WW2 era. I'm curios about the CMX2 engine in regards to how it performed during early development and if you had moments where you (BFC) were blown away, or if you witnessed moments that you didn't even know the engine was capable of? Also any areas where you knew at once just wouldn't work, although you would like implemented in due time? Look forward to you reply if possible, as well as purchasing this game in due time, all the best! Thanks
  18. I sent you the first two yesterday Kingfish but not sure about the others unfortunately.
  19. I can't help you with the AA problem I'm afraid but I can say it's not really fair to compare CMSF performance against CMBB as CMSF has a lot more going on with the engine being brand new and all. The new engine is real time as well as turn based I believe and has individual soldiers with a lot more polygons, as well as the vehicles, and probably much more that I'm not aware of as I haven't played the game.
  20. CMBB is a definite purchase assuming of course you have an interest in the Eastern Front. And yes you can edit to your hearts content in the included scenario editor, create your own scenarios etc, plenty to keep you busy I'm sure. Try d/l the demo and see what you think.
  21. It's sometimes hard to describe things when I can't see the map you are playing but given your Company is on a wide frontage and extra units arriving I'd be tempted to hold off their advancement if possible, to help provide covering fire for advancing reinforcements. In real life if you were attempting to advance against a well defended Company/Battalion for example you'd want as much fire power bearing down on the enemy as possible, so I'd imagine CO HQ would wait for the reinforcements for sure. Yes if you were suddenly ordered to pull back under fire it could be costly but not necessarily so. The experience of units and overall command, terrain, cover, etc, all come into play I guess, and obviously whether or not you had time for overwatch teams Mortar/MG to set up in preparation for that very scenario. In reality of course you could have way more possibilities than CM can allow, being abstract and all. For instance you could use the Tigers or other vehicles as a shield for your advancing infantry, make good use of smoke grenades if available, perhaps you are ordered to hold off the advance until dusk/nightfall, the weather could drastically change hampering your advance, so on and so forth. But in general you'd want to gather as many Platoons as possible in preparation for your eventual advance, but which ever formation you use keep them in command of HQs where possible.
  22. If you look several threads down you'll notice the Title 'CMC Cancelled', as sorry as I am to say that, as I was much looking forward to this also.
  23. If you say JC is the best player in the world of CM that must obviously make him so then.
  24. If you remember that a Company of Infantry for example has 3 Platoons - this is no accident BTW. This is a tried and tested unit formation which when used properly can cause a headache or two to a force much larger than itself. I tend to go with 2 Platoons up front and one in reserve when on the attack and you should be thinking along the same lines with regard to your Sections/Squads. Using the same principal for my Platoons, 2 Sections upfront, 1 Section in the rear/reserve close to HQ (V formation) and all in command at this point but not too close together for obvious reasons. Choose a point on the map for 1st Section to advance to, covering with the second upfront Section but holding fire with the rear Section, he is a reserve unit remember. Then once 1st Section reaches it's location (I personaly advance no further than 40-50 meters) so units don't tire or become exhausted early, advance 2nd Section who is now being covered by 1st Section, whilst still attempting/remembering to maintain the same V formation you began with in the process. I tend to time the advance of my HQ to coincide with the halfway point of 2nd Sections advance so I still have command of my Platoon. With the HQ in place, 3rd Section or reserve if you like will advance completing the advance up to this point and maintaining the same formation. So you see as a formation they are better prepared to defend themselves than they would be if they were all over the place or out of command etc. Ideally 2nd Platoon should be attempting to advance in synchronization with 1st Platoon with 3rd Platoon in reserve and covering only if required, to conserve ammo obviously. Depending on the situation at hand, you may only be able to/want to advance 1st Platoon first then 2nd Plattoon etc, but remember to maintain formation (Golden Rule).
  25. I agree with Cuirassier that you withdrew too late I'm afraid. You need to try and anticipate what the enemy is up to and think about where and how you would attack, if you were in his position. In your situation a fighting withdrawal is probably your best option using some of the most experienced units for covering fire whilst the less experienced units withdraw. You mentioned scattered trees, which you should be aiming for, although they offer only little cover and concealment it's much better than open ground. Also don't be too concerned about every unit as the A.I. forces units panicked to reach for nearest cover, just keep a leader or two nearby for them to recover. Once you have some unit's withdrawn use them to cover your most experienced unit's withdrawal, but don't try to withdraw too many at once as you also need to return fire with the intention of reducing/hampering the enemy's full attacking abilty. Even if you only manage to pin a few heads it all helps your withdrawal hopefully.
