  1. I was just playing a campaign I created called "Fatherland" when (about 15 turns into it) I noticed, while scanning units, for an offensive, that some of my tiles had new names. Normally, the tiles are pretty generic, Luftflotte III, V Corps, 18th Army and so on. But while scanning the German units I found Rocket Detachments, Karl, Berta, Dora SD Corps (?) Infantry Langemark Army (?)Infantry Wallonia - Tank Gotland Corps (?)Infantry RfSh SS - Tank and Dirlwanger Corps (wasn't that a penal unit!) Infantry I've never seen this before, anyone know what the this is all about? Thanks Halder
  2. Narayan The link you posted didn't work for me. I've sent you an email. Thanks Halder
  3. IM IN!! I will be emailing you shortly. Halder. ------------------------------- "Comrade Captain! NATO vehicle to our front with a red cross on it. What does this mean?" "I do not know. Destroy it."
  4. Is there a way to log on through internet with SC so that a third (or fourth, fifth, etc) party could watch two people play SC. Example if Red and Blue are playing an online game could I log onto the same game and just watch them play. Subsequently, can more than 2 players play online? Could you have 5-6 players within the same game? (representing USA, UK, Germany, etc)?
  5. Some great points being made here. I am curious though, would the troops (armour) that were instead sent to North Africa under Rommel really have made a signficant difference on the Eastern Front? I am in agreement with statements being made about Moscow. It seems that in some past discussions I have had on this subject many students of the Second World War suggest that Moscow should have been taken. I have disagreed. It would have been another Stalingrad as previously stated and a undefendable objective. Much stock has been put into the fact that Barbarossa started much later than it was suppose to (due to troubles in Yugoslavia/Greece). Some argue that if the Germans had stuck to their original schedule they would have faired better. I am not so sure. I agree that the Germans made some remarkable achievements in the Eastern War. The amount of Soviet troops and equipment captured in the first month of the war alone is mind boggling. The German Army at the time of Barbarossa were a highly skilled, highly trained and well equiped force. No debate here. I also consider that had Stalin not freed the various commanders sent to the gulags during one of his paranoid based purges he likely would have lost. Stalin did not win the war for the Motherland, the likes of Zhukov, Chuikov, Rokossovsky and Koniev did. Left to Stalin, Russia would have fallen. I think that two key errors were made by the Germans in regards to the Eastern Front that likely cost them the war. The first, Stalingrad. Every effort should have been made to break out of Stalingrad and save the 6th Army. Hitler's order to hold at all costs, was ludicrous. Secondly, The Germans should have gone to a wholly defensive strategy much earlier in the campaign. The exact timing of this can be argued. But had the Germans adopted a purely defensive strategy (which they were very skilled at, How long did they hold up allied troops in the Bocages of France? In Holland?), say after Stalingrad they would have faired better. I make this comment while considering that the newer German heavy tanks of the time (Tiger, Ferdinand, Jagdpanzer,King Tiger) were much more suitable for defensive tactics then the offensive battles they were used in. Lastly, some further reading (thanks for the recommendations so far by the way), STALINGRAD: The fateful Seige 1942-1943 Anthony Beevor FIGHTING IN HELL: The German Ordeal on the Eastern Front. 6. Strategic Command II: The Pacific Theatre. Now, that would be something. Halder
  7. Major General Erich Marcks was the first person on the German General staff directed to devise a plan for the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1940. He created a plan which entailed a two prong thrust into Soviet Russia. A northern thrust which ending at Leningrad and turning south towards Moscow and a southern thrust parallel to the Northern move. Hitler reviewed the plan and modified it. His modifications split the German offensive into a three prong thrust and diversified the German objectives. Strategic Command is an excellent game in which General Marcks original "Barbarossa" can be recreated and implemented. We would need the orginal German/Soviet OOB for the Marcks Offensive, though I would imagine it would be pretty much the same as Barbarossa though with different deployment on the German side. Food for thought and discussion. Halder "He who defends everything, defends nothing" Frederick the Great.
  8. Thanks Oak!! Problem Solved. And the new interface is great. Halder
  9. I like to play Sc on my Lap Top, which allows me to play it while traveling and other places. I have an old Pentium 2 Lap top and SC loads up and runs fine on it. The only thing is that the SC screen/display is bigger than the lap top screen so I have to scroll from one end of the screen to the other in order to select a menu item, end a turn or move a unit. I am sure this is a resolution, display issue with the lap top that will require a simply adjustment (or in Sc itself) but I am not sure how that would be done. thanks
  10. I've downloaded several campaigns and a interface mod and only one of 6 campaigns is playable (actually is shown on the camapaign list) and the interface mod causes SC not to start up at all. Any ideas as to what the problem is. thanks Halder
  11. I've heard (and have seen screen shots) of a SC Cold War Mod but cannot find any where to download it from. Anyone have any idea where I can download this mod from?? Thanks
  12. I just bought SC three weeks ago and do not know what version I have. How do I find out so that I can keep current with updates/patches. thanks Halder
  13. Why are HQ’s so hard to destroy? They are only Headquarters and communications centers for the other units, they have no effective combat status. So why can’t a Corp or tank group wipe them out in one turn? Thanks Halder
  14. Dislodging Besieged Armies Why is it that I cannot dislodge some besieged armies despite them being totally surrounded. I had a German Army surrounded by French and British Units in Bordeaux and they were imposible to destroy. I would also bomb this German Army prior to attacks as well. The same with Sevastopol. Thanks Halder
