  1. Very Nice AAR - particularly liked the content and angle of the screenshots and the narative. Also your choice of units was an interesting mix. [ May 05, 2005, 02:57 AM: Message edited by: Bengal6 ]
  2. MikeyD - I'm a big fan of your work and have all your mods for CMBB.... (...oh dear god help me, I sound like a 15 year old groupie!!)
  3. Agreed Sly, this is reflected in scernarios, during the set up, surveying the terrain and likely approach/position of the nme, allows you to use the terrain to the best advantage. Your second point regarding what the nme has in terms of force make up, is also represented by the briefing (which can make or break a scernario, hence why I only use certain authors' work). A good scernario will reflect realistically/historically what info about the nme force (if any) is available, and all improtantly will have clearly defined objectives. It's a good subject for a thread and shows the two options with their merits and challenges. Indeed I'm tempted to try QBs more in PBEM, especially if porting over a good map.
  4. I much prefer scernarios but would have to stipulate double blind play - not knowing what your force will entail (let alone the nme's force) is exciting!!! I have a few authors who I know and trust; and I try to stick to their creations. The thrill of being forced to play with units you would normally never consider is also a big draw. Being outside your comfort zone and having to defend/attack with quasi able units, is a challenge, and as such, if you get a good result - extremly rewarding.
  5. Erik - I'm with Pzman on this one, your opponent sounds like he made some dubious choices given the rarity of Sturm Tigers. Perhaps playing only scernarios rather than QBs, or at least QBs subject to some agreed parameters (wasn't there a set of rules for CMBO, called Panther 76 or something??) might lead to more balanced and historically accurate games? However, if you actually *enjoy* watching your little pixel hordes charging Sturm Tigers (..and let's face it, it would be something to see  ) crack on my old son... different strokes and all that.
  6. I have trouble with the axis HT equipped with mortars. As I only play CMBO at present they can't benefit from a HQ unit spotting for them, and as a result I find they go down easier than a two dollar hooker...
  7. Andreas Thanks for the head's up on Epsom - I'm going to give this a try this weekend with a mate. He's new to the game so I'll let him defend with the Allies as it sounds like the battle is a challenge for the attacker. I'll be on the receiving end of the Archers... more's the pity.
  8. Thank you both for your advice, both of you have made some excellent suggestions which I'll try and apply in the game.
  9. I'm about to start a PBEM with a friend (only our second PBEM and our fist QB) and we wanted to play a game with me as the German defenders - Infantry only - and him as Allied attacker - combined arms - Does the QB systems automatically give him a force bonus as attacker or do we have to set this up manually? if so how mauch of an advantage would you suggest, as I'll have a 2000 pnt force, +25% +50% +100%??? Also I'm finding the infantry only aspect of my force prohibitive re selection. If you had 2000 pnts to spend on a QB such as this (large - map - moderate trees - moderate hills - town - random weather - day time - june 44)what would you buy? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
  10. ARCHER!! without a doubt! everytime I think of this tank killer I smile. The concept of mounting the gun rearward so you can let fly with a shot, tap the driver on the shoulder, and run off like a giggling schoolboy who's just nicked an apple off the stall, appeals to my sense of humour.
  11. Other than CMBO - BF 1942 (can't believe no-one mentioned this yet) C+C Generals (just love using the GLA suicide Bombers) I have played most of the games already mentioned in the past (very pleased to notice a few Jagged Alliance 2 fans out there, a firm favourite with me), and was at one point severely addicted to Sudden Strike, especially on-line Mplay. I would like to add my heart felt thanks to my girlfriend Karen, who on moving in last Oct, curtailed all my gaming and allows me only one night a week for (as she likes to refer to it) Uber Geeking..... *sob* *sob* *sigh*
  12. Weren't they banned by the Geneva Convention after WW1? And also considering the very small number that were used, would it be a fair reflection of "typical" units to include them?
  13. Mark Can I just say that I'm playing Polar Bears at the moment and this op rocks!! I've played it as Allies V AI and won (just) and I'm currently using the Germans to spank the attacking allies. Congrats on a great operation, if you need anyone to test any CMBO stuff (mostly V AI, as my mates has yet to see the light and recognise CM as the best game in existance) please feel free to e-mail me via this board. Oh my girlfriend also wanted to send you a short message regarding the amount of time I've dedicated to Polar Bears, but I didn't want to get banned on my first post.
