CanuckGamer got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Question About American Tanks and Heavy Artillery
We are playing our 3rd PBEM game and noticed that American tanks always seem to fire their machine gun even after they have fired their main gun at a Russian tank. There have been a number of instances where this has caused the American tank to be knocked out since the Russian tanks don't seem to do this. I am assuming that firing the machine gun is to determine the range but did they not have electronics for that back in the 80's? Regardless, 2 of the 3 American tanks that I have lost is due to their pattern of firing their machine gun after a shot from their main gun.
A generic question, has anyone seen heavy artillery such as 155 mm knock out or immobilize a tank? We are playing a scenario , Between Farhbarns where I am the Yanks. I have 155mm artillery but so far haven't seen any Russian infantry. In addition there isn't a fixed objective in front of the American line that they have to take so wondering what the artillery can do unless it can knock out a tank.

CanuckGamer got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Why Tanks Are Firing Their MG at Enemy Tanks
My friend and I both picked up Cold War a couple of months ago. We have been playing the WW2 titles going back 20 years. The scenario we are playing is Mittelascherbach and I've noticed that my heavy tanks are continually firing their MG at enemy tanks after firing their main gun or before firing their main gun. I don't recall this happening in any of the WW2 games like CMBN or CMRT. I'm thinking this is a bug in that MG fire should only be directed at a soft target.

CanuckGamer got a reaction from Bubba883XL in Thinking of buying
I just bought it and the version is 2.11 Game Engine 4 so I think it is up to date. I opened a couple of scenarios and noticed that the Russian tanks did not have red stars on them. German halftracks had the iron cross. I am assuming everything with my installation of ok though. Thank you for the replies and looking forward to some big honking tank battles.

CanuckGamer got a reaction from Warts 'n' all in Close Assault Tanks
Thanks to everyone for your replies. I just finished a PBEM of the Loamshires scenario in CMBN and to my surprise I got lucky and knocked out two Panthers with my 25 pounders. One shell landed directly on top of the turret and the other landed just behind the rear of the Panther.

CanuckGamer got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Bunkers are Equivalent to Coffins
Wood bunkers and to a lesser degree, concrete bunkers are basically coffins as they don't provide much protection. Even small arms can penetrate wood bunkers and I incur losses when artillery even lands in the proximity of concrete bunkers. I expected that concrete bunkers would provide more protection from artillery and tank fire. I'm not saying that units in a concrete bunkers should be invulnerable, just harder to kill. I've gone to the tactic of not even bothering to put men in them, not only because of their lack of protection but also because they are a magnet for enemy fire.

Ok, I will. It just occurred to me that Battlefront changed servers, I think.

In hindsight I should have known that RT was Red Thunder. I don't have Red Thunder. Thanks for the replies. Since Red Thunder covers the last year of the war I would be more interested in the earlier years of the eastern front. I am surprised Battlefront isn't working on that or a North African game like they had in the original Combat Mission series. However, I am very much looking forward to Rome to Victory. In my opinion, the current Combat Mission series is the gold standard for computer tactical warfare.
