  1. I actually had to upgrade to Direct X 9.0 to get the game to work. I was running Direct X 8.1 in WinXP with the latest NVIDIA drivers (41.xx) for my 4200. I kept getting a black screen at start-up, then nothing. I read the boards and heard stories about going back to earlier drivers, but I thought I would try DX 9 first. That solved whatever my problem was. Since then, perfectly stable.
  2. I don't know how this would work, but I'd kind of like to see somebody tackle games like Air Strike and Air Superiority. Those were old Game Designer Workshop games simulating air to air and air to ground combat. I'm not saying do a literal conversion, but I dug those games. CMBB has replaced a few WW2 board games in my library, I'd like to see some other classics get a great computer counterpart.
  3. thanks for the suggestion. I think the problem was somehow related to the fact that I installed a geforce after the ATI and I may not have uninstalled all of the Radeon drivers. A fresh install of windows with clean video drivers solved the problem. Thanks again.
  4. for what it's worth, I got the same problem when I tried it with a Radeon 7200
  5. I just got CMBB for Christmas, loaded it up with the latest patch, started it up and got nothing. After a few seconds, the screen goes into power saving mode. Here are my specs. Win XP, latest updates Direct X 9 (happened with 8 as well) Geforce 4200, 41.xx drivers (also happened with previous version, upgrading didn't help) Any thoughts? Does it have something to do with color depths? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to playing.
  6. whoops, my apologies for calling it CCBB instead of the correct CMBB. I could never get into the close combat games.
  7. Hello, just joined this forum since my copy of CCBB is on its way (never played the first). Anyway, I tried to search for this but didn't see anything. Me, my brother, and my friends have played various war games for a long time, including some Squad Leader which we enjoyed tremendously. Of course, now we're older and on our seperate ways. When I saw that CCBB came with a PBEM system, I was hoping my friends and I could resume our wargaming electronically. I read a review that said these games are the unofficial computer versions of the Squad Leader series. Any thoughts on that? Have my friends and I finally found a way to "replace" one of our board games? Thanks.
