  1. Aha, so the 0 OK was accurate. No one alive = no one to continue the fight.
  2. Not sure if it's because I'm still a novice or not, but even games against the AI are taking me a helluva long time to play. I believe part of it may be getting used to the numerous moves it takes me to make contact with the enemy (constantly creeping forward, bit by bit), trying to gauge LOS. I often find myself half way through a game, without having made any contact with the enemy at all. This leads to rushed tactics at the end of games. Did others experience this only when first becoming familiar with the game, or does it stay consistent regardless of experience level? I couldn't imagine playing TCP/IP because of the time required to play, but will eventually try PBEM. I purchased the CM bundle of BO and BB, but won't began playing BB until I've played BO a lot more. I have read the list of enhancements however, and the new command 'advance to contact' sounds like it may have been created to help speed up things, without throwing caution to the wind. Is that correct?
  3. The odd thing is that the AAR shows 0 AXIS Attackers OK (alive) at the end of the battle, not 0 ALLIED Defenders OK. It's interesting you had the option of surrendering with 0 men. Did you have vehicles remaining? If so, does the game not count their crew members as OK? Still a novice, so that's why I'm asking.
  4. Any ideas for those playing cmbo (with no cover arc command available)in the same situation?
  5. A great post MarkShot! I only began playing CMBO two weeks ago and love it. Having played Close Combat a Bridge Too Far before, I didn't have much of a learning curve to deal with, but someone new to these types of games could easily get overwhelmed. The great thing about CM is that you can choose to deal with the details of strategy/tactics/etc. or simply ignore them. I wanted to also commend you on your STK/EAW guide. From that, and this post, one can tell you take your gaming seriously (and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others). Many an evening was spent with European Air War, and I anticipate spending many an evening with Combat Mission.
  6. I recently purchased the bundle pack and have only loaded and played CMBO. I wanted to start off with it, and then later move to the new graphics and tactics of CMBB. I have followed the advice of others here in the forums though and downloaded some mods to enhance the graphics of BO.
  7. i recall reading in the manual that hiding armor causes it to idle, thereby making it harder to spot audibly.
  8. I just purchased the CM Bundle of both CMBO and CMBB, and at the advice of others in the forum am beginning by playing CMBO. When reading the tips and tricks, I would like to know that the threads I'm opening apply to CMBO or CMBB without having to open them first. From what I've seen, and read in the forums here, there are commands exclusive to CMBB, and quite a few differences in how the two games play.
  9. thanks to everyone who's responded. i just completed placing my order for the bundled set. tonight i'll go about downloading one of the demos and begin progressing up the learning curve. to those in the States (or serving overseas), have a grand old turkey day tomorrow.
  10. thanks tracer. the game(s) would be an early xmas present from the spouse. i considered downloading the demo(s), but a 60mb download on a dial-up connection is going to take awhile. i've played close combat: a bridge too far before and enjoyed it, and am presently playing the single-player version of Battlefield 1942. from the reviews i've read, combat mission seems to have a little of both worlds, but with much more realism from a historical and statistical basis. the ability to control each and every unit on the playing field, and being able to play another person without worrying about internet connection speed (via pbem or tcp/ip) are what really entices me.
  11. Recently learned of the existence of CM. I'm considering purchasing CMBB and wondered if the bundled set of CMBO & CMBB (for an additional $20) is recommended. CMBB seems to have quite a few enhancements, and I wonder if any present users see themselves going back to play CMBO after having used the newer version? Thanks in advance for your opinions.
