Get shot down only slightly less easily?

I thought we'd agreed that Attack Helicopters ... indeed, any Helicopter near the front ... was now more a liability than an asset?

For the moment. But after the delivery of F-16s and more AA weapons, in short after Ukraine is master in it's own skies again, it can be a VERY useful asset.

Incredible UKR combat video here.  Video bounces between trench fighting and the drone above watching it all.  Confusion amid fighting in the trench maze, particularly on RU soldiers who seem to have less situational awareness.  Especially when they come flying out from dugouts trying to escape.  Some shooting just a couple meters apart.  From above, we get the big picture while the guys on the ground only see what's right in front of them.

God bless Ukraine, Dan. Thanks for that. Great action.

No doubt they will be reading up on the Nizari Ismailis. These guys were professional assholes specialty infiltration.

It's complete rubbish. Of course the Iranians knew. US and Israeli intelligence are just lying the stars from heaven, so they can explain to the dumb masses why they don't military respond towards Iran for the moment.

Biden has enough problems as it is and Netanyahu first wants to eliminate Hammas with a devastating ground offensive.

    First things first.

It's all pretty vague, as you would expect.

These key Iranian officials did not know the attack was coming, according to the intelligence. The United States, Israel and key regional allies have not found evidence that Iran directly helped plan the attack, according to the U.S. officials and another official in the Middle East.

While they would not identify the Iranian officials who expressed surprise at the attack, the U.S. officials said they were people who typically would be aware of operations involving the Quds Force, Iran's paramilitary arm that supports and works with proxy forces.

U.S. officials said the intelligence investigation was continuing and could turn up evidence that Iran or other states were directly involved in the Hamas operation. Senior officials said they were keeping an open mind, reviewing old intelligence reports and looking for new information.

Well, if US intelligence says so....😆

I'm a bit puzzled by the scale of the attack and can't believe that in this day and age preparations for such action were not noticed by Israels intelligence services.

In a German newspaper I read something about Israel's Pearl Harbour. That is an interesting parallel because now we can have the same (conspiracy) theories about the government actually knowing about it in advance but doing nothing because they profited from it.

I think the overwhelming majority participating in this discussion is not interested in superficial bull**** like the Stab-in-the-back myth. Lets focus on facts backed by evidence instead.

So the pro-Russia amen corner (tankies and wingnuts alike) are, predictably, howling that all the arms going to Ukraine must be diverted to Isreal forthwith.

....Except that if Israel seriously intends to conduct counterguerrilla warfare in urbanised terrain using large amounts of 155mm HE and cluster munitions, then, umm, are we backing the the right team? Because that's the Warsaw Uprising playbook.

Is Israel in lack of weaponry? It's one of the best armed countries in the world. Sending arms to them is like sending arms to the US after 9/11.

The pay is reasonable I would say, the retirement support is decent too. How come that position only attracts geriatrics? They could do more useful things like playing Combat Mission games.

Indeed. I don't dislike Biden, but for Heaven's sake, wasn't there a younger, more mobile candidate in that huge country? And a colored lady as vice president. No problem in most Western European countries, but how many Americans will NOT vote for her, because she's black AND a woman? Sounds like a recipy for disaster to me.

Personally I will vote for a certain smart lady from Turkish-Kurdish origin in the next elections in the Netherlands (there's a good chance she will be the next prime minister of the Netherlands, as candidate for the VVD, which is a centre right liberal political party), but I doubt she would stand a chance in the US.

I know Congress is important to Ukraine support but right now we know f-all, basically,  and no way to know more.

Can we get back to the main course,  please?

Well, I'm reasonably informed about US politics (for a European), but recently it's so hard to understand, that I'm reading the comments on this forum on this subject with greater interest. It's still hard to understand, but it helps me to understand how big the political mess in the US really is. And how things can go wrong very quickly in the coming years.

It's easy to judge about situation with contemporary knowledges, dividing all to white and black. As I told in Baltia and Ukraine were many grey shades and it wasn't obvious who is good guy and who is bad in conditions of war "all against all" (yes, we had more than two sides here and had even inner war inside national resistance for control). So, the choice of many, who were under Stalin's power even two years was obvious, that even Germans appeared more "civilized" (since "Distrikt Galicia" hadn't so hard occupation regime and terror, like on other part of Ukraine). Service in Waffen SS was a single chance to establish national regular armies for fight with Sovites. With future goal "when Allies will come we will uprise" or "let Soviets and Germany exsanguinate each other and we will take power and claim own existance as a state and nation". And here was main differense between OUN wing of Bandera (main social base - rural and small towns population), who were strictly against idea of UKR Waffen SS and OUN wing of Melnyk (main social base intelligentsia, students, population of cities, enterpreneurs). Latter didn't believe in capability of let even numerous, but usual partisans in forests to defeat regular armies and seize power. Balts also went by this way.

The same hopes had Polish Army Krajowa, in Warsaw uprising - "to claim own rights on power after expelling of Germans", though they had own legitimate government in exile. And how to be with Finns, Romanians, Italians who initially fought for Axis, but then crossed on Allied side? They never did warcrimes?

EVERYBODY did warcrimes. Those who deny that fact know nothing about war.

I thought of that one, but I think the timing is not optimal as this is the sort of thing that takes a while to build up momentum.  At least that's my take on it.  So either it is an FSB/GRU operation that didn't get its product within the desired timeframe (quite possible as they don't likely directly control the publication process) or it is designed for something else that is a little further down the road.  It could also be more generalized for an entire season's worth of political activity across many countries.

    Steve

Early general elections are scheduled to be held in the Netherlands on 22 November 2023 to elect the members of the House of Representatives. The Netherlands is just a small country, but not unimportant in the support of Ukraine.

It's also important to mention that the dutch military intelligence HASN'T come to any conclusions. Our intelligence service has a lot of experience with the Russians and their tricks. Journalists only want to bring 'news'. In this case the 'source' is nothing more than speculation and suspect 'evidence'.

EVEN in the case the Ukrainians would be behind this (which I don't believe for a second, because it could have cost them this war) I'd say; Well done, you saved the West a lot of useless discussion and dangerous temptation.
