  1. Well I have the same 20 minute freeze and lock up on all the games. I have onboard Sis 7120 sound, and an Nvidia GeForce 4. All drivers are smack up to date. I am runninf v 1.1 of CMAK. I''ve tried the antialiasing stuff and nothing changes.......
  2. Thanks again for all your learned help.....is the BIOs the place to disable the onboard sound? Cheers
  3. An alternative thought - I don't have the time to play on the net, and the problems seem to be from calls to the net in the vbackground while I am playing. Is there either: 1. a way to install the program so it ignore the net? 2. a way to ensure that all other programs are not calling the net while the game is running?
  4. Has anyone managed to succeed as the Russkies? I find this maddening as I look at what has to be done  and it seems, on the surface, to be straightforward. Every time I have tried it I got wiped! Spoiler::::: I reckon I have to taregt the artillery and rockets at the start, I have used smoke (doesn't stay long) or fire on and around the crossroads - doesn't seem to do much. Dropping the shells where the enemy tanks are hiding doesn't seem to work either. Going hull down on the first ridge versus the Tigers gives them a shooting gallery! Moving across to the road then using dead ground to get down to the village outskirts normally loses only one or two tanks to the a/t gun there - but my infanrty following up get mangled from the forces in the central wood. Then the panthers come along and steadily pick off my tanks 'hiding' on the road by the wood- also vulnerable to a/t infantry! Is it a case that an extreme left flank movement is the way, to come in along the lateral road - but at some stage the Tigers will get a nice field of fire? AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGH!
  5. Installing the 'latest' sound drivers really messed up my ADSL connectivity, so I had to roll my system back to reclaim connectivity. I really do not want to mess the system up again, last time i did that I needed a complete reinstall! Is there any mileage in either reassigning IRQs manually, or simply putting a new sound card in and disabling the onboard one?
  6. You have gone to an immense amount of trouble looking stuff up for me Schrullenhaft, thank you. I am extremely intimidated by all the possible things that you suggest..... However I have a new take on the problem - a suggested update from windows was on my network card which is my connection to ADSL router. Having done this I discovered that the sound ran for much longer on CMBB until I had an interrupt when a program asked to connect to the net - on agreeing this via my firewall protection there was again no sound. More interestingly the ADSL was inoperable on return to windows, was inoperable on reboot - and only worked again after a pwerdown of the router as well as the PC. Both the network card and the sound share IRQ11 (along with about three other things!) I have a feeling that if i knew how to set eihter the router or the sound to use a different IRQ this might solve it. I shall try to find out how I can do this - any further advice would of course be welcomed. Roger
  7. No luck with changing the Direct X hardware acceleration. I'm thinking its an interrupt problem....
  8. Altering the ambient sound did nothing at all... I will now try altering the direct x sound acceleration Ho hum......... Roger
  9. Hardware acceleration changes as suggested by ichadwick tried and no success, I tried four separate settings including nothing, and no luck..rebooting each time to get the registry changes. I am running Windows ME. The soundcard is an Avance AC 97 Audio with drivers that are version 5.10.00.3800, Sorry I dont have a clue where to look for the other information you require.... 10. I have just got CM2, and exaclty the same problems are occurring as with CM1. If I run the games using a standard PS2 mouse as soon as I start to view the battle field I lose all sound I cannot use my ADSL link as its shut down as well. if, on the other hand I use a USB mouse then the first time I try to navigate round the battlefield I lose sound and the navigation direction continues with me flying off the end of the world. I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. Neither game is patched, both are installed from CDs.
  11. Sorry, yes by normal I mean me against the PC. I am always adding new software so it could be any one of several pieces.....aaaaaargh. I await delivery of a new mouse anyway that may be the cure.
  12. I have had the game running for several months no problem. Last few days I have noticed, initially in a PBEM game that it gets so far through the game move - about 40 seconds - and the mouse freezes. the move ends on time but then I get no response. If I esc from the game the whole computer has frozen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but have the problem on normal games too....
