  1. No. Maybe because in Strategic Commander, these values are same for the same type of unit regardless the amount damage a unit has suffered. Only in the final formulas (page 17 of the manual) terrain, strength, exp, etc are considered to calculate the unit losses HQ can become a temporary supply point, however it will run out of supply too if you don't capture a supply point (example: city/port) in the invasion area soon. This is an important factor in Strategic Commander, the unit readiness depends on the availability of supply point and the distance between them.
  2. I think you probaby haven't declared a war against Denmark. Select War Map, Click On Denmark's flag and Click Declare War button. Tip: You don't need to use transport to invade Copenhagen, the island is connected to the mainland. Just move your armies cross the strait
  3. err, I would like to correct my statement should be read as "Occasionaly, I got nothing in return after investing 5 pts in Anti Tank Weapon field for one year"
  4. I feel the other way around. The technology advances depend heavily on luck. Occasionaly, I got nothing in return after investing 5 pts in Anti Tank Weapons. I do not like the research system in Strategic Commander.
  5. Perhaps you could consider this idea in SC2. A small division's symbol (like desert rat, etc) on the info screen would give a 'feeling' that you are controlling the historical unit. It is not hard to find these historical icons, we could help you on this. This idea will go well with the proposed database that suggests the name of a newly created unit.
  6. As I said, I understand the position of Sarge and other persons who belong to the first group . But yeah, I and many strategy players have our preference too . We are attracted to SC, because the rule is simple and we can devote our time to think about strategy not to understand the game mechanism/modelling. Take for example, TOAW (excuse me, Talonsoft), the interface is simple, you can learn how to attack very quickly, however there is a complex set of rules to understand. I got puzzled when I suffered a big loss when my MBT unit (Attack:32) failed to attack enemy's MBT (Defence:18), before I realized that the Attack factor is an accumulated index. That's just an example.
  7. There are two groups who offer different opinions on how to improve the game. - For one group, they prefer to see the things more realistic (modelling the air attack, etc.."), thus suggesting to make the rule more complicated and challenging. - The other group would like to make it simple and symbolic, the game may not develop logically compared with the real WW II, but it doesnt matter as long as it provides an enjoyable experience. I am a strategy players and a casual wargamer. Honestly, I belong to the second group. I don't mean the the first group is bad, but I prefer to see SC keeps the things simple and easy to play. One of the reason why I like SC much more than TOAW.
  8. Thx Hubert, After reinstalling and applying the patch again, I finally can load the game. Sorry, it was a false warning.
  9. Hi Hubert, I have sent my copy to support@furysoftware.com. I must clarify one thing, that the error occurs after the LOAD SAVED button is pressed. If I delete this game from \SAVE directory, I can see the LOAD SAVED GAMES window normally.
  10. No, I am not referring to PBEM games. The idea is to discuss the situation in a SAV game with my friend. I am using 1.04 patch. Windows 98 SE, Pentium III-500
  11. Hi, Is there any way to open a SAV game from other person? I have tried to copy his SAV game to my \SAVE directory. Unfortunately, SC signals an error message (too quick to be read) and quit to the desktop.
  12. First of all, this is a great game and very addictive. It isn't necessarily realistic, but it captures the flavour of WWII. It will be great, if Fury can release a map editor (not a scenario editor) to create user maps. But from what I see from the game, it looks impossible, the AI is hardcoded to handle europe's map. Maybe they can release it in SC2 alongs with better research system (the current research system is purely a gamble). By the way, is there any way to hack max research points to > 2500MPP?
