  1. Got around it looking back in the forums. Forgot I had to do this with the Commonwealth module. Frustrating issue with Norton's detection routine.
  2. Norton keeps blocking and quarantining MH690A even though I ask it to be restored. Furthermore, I can't access CM Fortress Italy.exe because Norton is categorizing it is as a virus. Ugh.
  3. Yep, Noticed exactly the same thing in the first campaign scenario.
  4. My system: Athlon XP3000+ on Epox mobo 2 Gig Ram Windows Vista 32 bit Nvidia 7900 GS AGP Matrox Triplehead surround setup (3 screen + 1 additional flatscreen monitor) SB Audigy 260GB HD All drivers are the latest available. Have not been able to get TOW running at all.
  5. Computer is up-to-date with the latest and greatest Vista drivers. Unfortunately I cannot run the demo no matter what I try.
  6. I also am not able to run the TOW demo under Vista. The program goes to black screen on launch and then drops back to the desktop with a message stating that TOW.exe stopped working. I've tried running in XP compatibility mode, shutting off user account control, running as administrator, etc. and can't get the game to work. I'm in for some painful days ahead if the full version has these issues.
  7. I reject the notion that those who are desiring an upgrade to CMBB are whiners. It is a difference of opinion, nothing more. In the end we all love these games or we wouldn't waste our time here "in-forum." [ February 04, 2004, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: MRoadster ]
  8. I usually don't check on the forums religiously, but I don't think this particular subject has been done to death. I just did a search in the CMBB forum using the terms "patch" and "upgrade" and not much came back discussing upgrading CMBB to CMAK standards, at least not since last fall. Of course CMBO had the same outcry when CMBB came out. But the game adjustments from CMBO to CMBB were major compared to CMAK/CMBB. With the reintroduction of western forces in CMAK, a total CMBO work-over isn't too far fetched. I'm already seeing CMBO scenarios retooled in the CMAK engine. Just another reason I can't see why CMBB can't be brought "up-to-speed" quickly. Why would the developers ignore us? We are the staunch supporters, the players, the history aficionados, and in the end, the cash cow that funds these games. Sure, give us CMX2 as soon as possible. If the core audience desires the upgrades why not keep us satisfied in the meantime while we await CMX2 and even more ready to go out and order CMX2 as soon as the order page goes up? One underlying premise I have been sensing here is that the developers have, come hell or high-water, decided that CMBB is not to be supported any further. If CMBB is basically a "dead" program with no future developer support, then why not let the end-user tweak to his or her heart's content? Why not just open-up the source code? I don't program, so I wouldn't know where to start. But there is a lot of knowledge and talent in this community. Just look at what the Falcon 4.0 community has been able to do to keep that product vibrant and ever-evolving. Sure, there probably would be tons of iterations of CMBB, but over time, ala Falcon, a generally accepted version would emerge. I could very well be mistaken on this idea, but it is intriguing... Anyway, the devs could just nip this in the bud by issuing a patch for CMBB when CMAK reaches its upgrade cycle conclusion, if it hasn't already done so. Just throwing another 2 cents into the discussion.
  9. Since CMAK is basically an upgrade of CMBB set in another theatre, I wonder if there really is a huge danger of introducing a myriad of new bugs into CMBB by patching to the most recent CMAK standard. Also, I wonder how much time we would lose off the release of CMX2 by diverting some effort to sustaining the longevity of CMBB. A week? Two weeks? Three weeks? One month? If I get another year and a half's enjoyment out of CMBB I won't even notice that I've had to wait a bit longer for the new product. With CMBB left "as is" I can only count the days and hope the East Front is the focus of CMX2. I think CMBB, as a watershed wargaming product, deserves to be tweaked to the max. 10. JasonC, Yep, I'm still playing a lot more CMBB than CMAK. CMBB is still highly playable and my preferred choice. It's just that each time I boot up CMAK I come away with the "Gee, that subtle change would be GREAT in CMBB" factor. The issue isn't game playability, it is gameplay enhancement.
  11. A recent thread about multi-turrets in CMBB got me thinking about the topic of possible upgrades to CMBB. As a huge fan of the eastern front, I am always a bit "bummed" when I load CMBB after playing a round of CMAK. First off, I don't want to see a delay in CMX2 just like the majority of you. However, I am curious to know if there are others out there who are craving the eastern front with the graphical and gameplay goodness that is in CMAK. Since arty played a huge role on the eastern front, the smoke effects of CMAK would be ideally suited to the arty heavy scenarios in CMBB. This alone would be a major upgrade in visuals and LOS issues. I can live without the multi-turrets on the eastern front (however their inclusion would be nice). CMBO was justifiably left behind because of the huge changes made when CMBB came out. But CMBB and CMAK are much closer in their gameplay parameters. What do you guys think? Can we have our cake and eat it too? A CMBB upgrade with hopefully minimal/no impact on CMX2 while we anxiously await the next generation of Combat Mission goodness? Battlefront, is there any hope? C'mon, let's see a show of hands!
  12. I'm no computer programmer so I'd be curious to know how much time and effort would be necessary to "retrofit" CMBB to CMAK standards. CMBO is almost a full generation behind, so I can see leaving that one alone. However, I read elsewhere that the changes between CMBB and CMAK (besides multi-turrets) are very subtle. I'd be VERY happy if we got the new smoke effects in CMBB if nothing else. I don't want to see a delay in CMX2 either, but I would dearly love to play CMBB with the graphical/gameplay goodies of CMAk while I wait...
  13. I asked if CMBB could be updated to CMAK standards even though CMBB is a "completed" product over in the the tech support forum . It seems to me that the incremental changes made in the game engine with CMAK would be a relatively small upgrade in CMBB compared to overhauling CMBO. Madmatt stated that there are "no plans" to update the earlier titles. I don't mind if CMBO goes into retirement, but I'd really like to see the smoke and dust effects in CMBB. Please Battlefront... reconsider the decision not to update CMBB!
  14. Yes, I think CMAK will do nicely to simulate some of the old CMBO scenarios. I was really hoping that CMBB could be brought up to CMAK standards since the East Front is my main focus of interest. Hopefully Battlefront will have a change of heart regarding "one more" patch for CMBB...
