  1. Hiya I just wanted to make some open comments to battlefront about the PBEM in CMSF. Having used PBEM as my favourite method of play for many years now, including CM1, I have found the way that every turn has a replay followed by your orders is a HUGE improvement. In CM1 games could go on for a long time with replay only or order only turns. I know this has resulted in some large PBEM file sizes but things have moved on now and almost everyone is using broadband. BF please always keep PBEM in your games, for those with friends in different time zones it is an excellent method to play..... PS please try and resolve the unit placements in QB PBEM... either 1.04 or 1.05 maybe...? keep up the good work.. Ady
  2. Thanks for the reply. My opponent just sent me the file again as a zip file. I then copy pasted the file into the folder and now it works fine. Your explanation above must be the issue. One little confusing note is with all the messing around when I load CMSF now the info bar at the bottom is larger and stretched into wide-screen. Not a huge problem but a bit odd. Thanks again for the reply Ady
  3. Hiya, I was wondering if this problem was being worked on. I have tried two different machines and had the same problem as follows..... When loading a saved PBEM file it gets to 50% and then it freezes. I have to tab out and close the non responding CMSF down. It is not all files just some of them. I thought it was good old vista but tried it on XP today and same thing. Setup is Sony Vaio intel core duo 2gig, 2gig ddr2 sdram nvidia geforce go 7600 gt and vista home.... I tried it on my daughters similar XP laptop also a vaio and same problem..... Any thoughts advice appreciated.. All other games work and load fine Ady
  4. With a bit of help today I seemed to have resolved the problem with vista. If anyone has the same problem try the following. Change the settings of your account in Vista to allow you full rights to save files to the Program files directory. This in turn avoids VISTA creating a compatibility folder.... The machine requires a re-boot and then game files can be saved straight into the game folder... Ady
  5. Further to my post I believe this is a security feature in VISTA. I have full access rights with my login but not sure why everything suddenly changed today. No idea why CMSF would not load until I re installed...... Ady....
  6. Hiya all, having played CMSF in windows Vista for a few weeks with no problems I thought I would try a PBEM game. My opponent sent me a file which I saved and then after creating a password it saved the game again. I then went to windows explorer but could not find it in the email out box. In fact after a while I could not find any saved games in the folders. Then the actual saved game folder disappeared and then the game files folder went. I did not move or delete them they just went. Then I found a button in windows explorer called compatibility files... This had all my lost files in it. However CMSF would not run.... I did an install and uninstall of CMSF.... And tried again. After saving my PBEM file it would not appear in windows explorer unless I clicked the compatibility button. Only fix I have at the moment is to go to the compatibility folder..... copy the pbem file..... then go back to the normal game file and paste it into the games folder for email sending..... Any advice help appreciated..... other than going back to XP Ady
  7. Thanks for the replies. I had misunderstood Elite mode.... Friendly fire sounds interesting and being able to see all my troops when zoomed out is what I like.... Metalbrew I will send you an email. Look forward to the game... Ady
  8. I was wondering what setting others were using for their PBEM battles. I have been playing against the AI in Veteran mode but now want to start PBEM play.. (my favourite mode). But with the choice of Veteran or elite what is becoming the norm for PBEM play. I like the way LOS works with enemy troops but I must say I like to zoom out a map and see all of my own troops. Hence my reluctance to play in Elite mode. On a second note what is the most favourable place to find opponents. I have a few CM1 friends but it would be nice to take on some other players also... 9. Heck this is the longest thread I have ever got going on this forum and it is not even about a war game Ady
  10. Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me if the delivery package contained an invoice with any personal details or licence codes for the game. My package arrived today but unfortunately must have crash landed at Heathrow airport. Package was opened and flat as a pancake and crushed... The disk seems ok and book not that badly damaged but there was no invoice in there... just wondering..... Regards Ady
  11. Thanks for posting this scenario. The map and the scenario itself are excellent, I had a great time playing it..... All the best Adrian
  12. Firstly I want to acknowledge the fact that so many responses on this forum have picked up on bugs and suggestions and problems etc etc that will no doubt produce some excellent updates to this great game.... But it is also important to provide feedback on what we really like about the game so the team know they are in the right direction and to keep things included in future games... So in my opinion the following are great improvements and have resulted in me being fully on board with the new game engine.... 1.Download speed of the game was quick and easy... And the elicence avoids having to put the game disk in all the time. 2.Every soldier is shown on the battlefield. This is a huge realism change that enhances enjoyment of the game. 3.Graphics and sound resulting it great atmosphere. 4.Still the CM feel of play... 5.PBEM and WEGO...... please always keep them in... However having the option of RT at least gives us choice... Some PBEM games went on for months.. Now the choice is RT with someone in the same time zone or PBEM with those elsewhere... On a final note I think it was better to release the game now than wait.... We the customers can effect the direction of the game and ... well..... ok.... I am inpatient.... Ady
  13. I have been a fan of earlier combat mission games since their release. I have just started with shock force and have found WOW with 1. The use of the Aquire button 2. Getting buildings to collapse.. 3. the movement of the infantry...... I know we may need a couple of patches but not many gamers get to have such input into the way the game gets updated...... I think this new engine will be around to stay.... Ady
  14. Hiya all. Just a quickie re the European update for v1.03. I have the US version of the game and have piggy backed off version 1.01 and v1.02. However I intend to update my fathers UK version of the game tomorrow and noticed the UK 1.03 was 25 meg in size rather than the 2 meg the US version was. Does this mean I can do the update in one jump from 1.00 to 1.03 with the European file. Hope this makes sense. Regards Ady
