Well, so long fellas. . .
S.Sgt. Havilandt replied to BeauCoupDinkyDau's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Battlefield Command does certainly look great. My only fear is that it will play like a CM clone, which will turn me off. I'd like to see something original for such crisp graphics. -
Will some of the FUN be put back ??
S.Sgt. Havilandt replied to foamy's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I hope the new one has a tweaked computer pick feature during random quick battles. It doesn't work so hot as is, and I am sick of fighting King Tigers and SMG squads. Please, please, tweak this. -
Resolved: Computer Select is Better
S.Sgt. Havilandt replied to PeterX's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
There once was a random battle generator that someone made for CMBO which actually worked well in picking the parameters for fair battles. It choose the type, weather, etc. Really cool little device. Haven't seen one for CMBB. Anyway, a friend of my play small quick battles with computer pick, and I have to say that most of the time, one of us gets screwed over. The Russians always seem to get heavy/medium tanks and the Germans get halftracks. Nothing like having an ISU-2 tear up some trucks. -

It is true. . . lucky enough to be a season-ticket holder too! -
Any Players from

Other side of the state unfortunately. I just recently picked up a copy of the old Avalon Hill game Bismark, as well as some other gems, and would like to get back into board gaming. I was hoping there would be a few guys on this forum. -
Pittsburgh? A friend of mine, as well as myself, would like to know who else is out there, perhaps for board gaming, or hot-seat games.

203mm spotter + 4 x TRP = This
S.Sgt. Havilandt replied to Bone_Vulture's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
My spotter did better than yours! hahahahahahahahahahaha -
I was able to pull a minor in that same scenario with them, but I believe my crack unit got 4 or 5 T-34's before the plane shot him up. If he has that much left, I guess you might be in trouble as they will gang up on you. I set up ambushes in the little village with them and let my over-eager opponent ride up for the surprise.

The way the vehicles are modeled doesn't bother me in the least. But I am one of those guys that plays from view 4 or 5. . . -

I just fought this battle, and wow what a fight against the AI! Reminded me a little of "Cemetary Hill" in that you really have your work cut out for you. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I highly recommend you play this one if you like small attacks.

Top Ten Reasons Artillery is Poorly Modelled

A rather interesting read. Some thought was definately put into that list. -
"Courtyard of Death" is UP!!!
S.Sgt. Havilandt replied to OGF Keller's topic in Combat Mission - Scenario Talk
I just don't see how his review was unfair. I think that this kind of thinking is exactly why most don't review scenarios at the depot. Which, IMHO, is the one site that will constantly pump new life into the CD. -
I am and have been running 1.0, so maybe that's it. I'll look into it, and thanks for the prompt response! Looks like that was the solution as I was able to have a scenario that I knew was created 1.0 appear on my screen. Thanks again, and if I run into future problems, I'll keep you informed. Ok, trying to make a long story short. A friend of mine just got CMBB and just started playing some PBEM games so he didn't patch right away. The other night he called me and asked if I would play, I had version 1.01 so I knew I had to revert back to the old one. Simple enough, I ran the installer again and let it overwrite my newer version. We were able to play a TCP/Ip game without a problem. Then I tried to extract some zip files into my scenario folder. No luck! They won't show on the screen, and when I look in the folders themselves, say the scenario one, I see the title but can't access it. I have tried to extract to both the saved games folder and the scenario folder with no luck. So, I deleted everything this time and started over from scratch, installing the game as if I had just purchased it. Wouldn't you know it, I still have the same problem! I am unable to extract zip files/scenarios into my folder! What am I doing wrong? I have never had this problem before. Any help would be welcomed, and thank you in advance.

This is an extremely interesting story to say the least. I would love to hear more when you dig up the facts MasterGoodale. Reminds me of two things: all the photos my Grandfather had during his time in Europe with the 1120th Combat Engineer Group. Although much different than your find, each one he had held its own story which he was more than willing to share during the last years of his life. My wife, oldest son, and I would look very forward to those visits and those stories. The one's he really liked to concentrate on were the funny ones; ones where the whole company got the ****s and so forth, but he mixed in some serious ones as well. I remember when I was much younger and niave I asked him if he ever had to shoot his gun. He paused, his face became stern and deliberate. He simply replied, "Well, I was in Europe during the war." Dumb questions deserve short replies. The other thing this reminds me off his the episode of BOB when Spiers is out for that personal photograph collection at the nest. Quite intriguing. I'm very grateful that you have taken the time to share this story with us as it has brought back many memories for me of those times I spent with my Pap and the stories that he shared with me. Thanks again. JWH [ January 27, 2003, 05:05 PM: Message edited by: S.Sgt. Havilandt ]
