Why is this forum so happy?
Scheer replied to sightreader's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Because we´re not a bunch of thirteen year old assholes. Except those lunatics in the Peng thread, of course. Not that they are thirteen year old ... -
Any real differences between CMAK and CMBB 1.03
Scheer replied to Warren Peace's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Hi Moon, any chance of using the mousewheel instead of the "+" and "-" keys for the setting of the viewpont ? Please ? I have CMBO ( US and CDV ), CMBB ( US and CDV ) and I plan to buy CMAK in both versions. You guys are my heros ... -
Hi all, in a recent PBEM against my dearest foe, good, ole Strider I had one of his MG carriers cornered. One of my pioneer platoons scored THIRTEEN hits on that poor guy, several handgrenades, two charges and two FT hits obliberated the carrier. And half of my platoon was killed in the ensuing explosion. If anyone is interested I can mail the film to him. It´s around 420 KByte. Has anyone a movie with more hits on a single target ?

How to calculate HE penetration?
Scheer replied to Little_Black_Devil's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Hi all, I always thought that HE is to " soft " to get through the hardened steel. Just like throwing a tomatoe against a windowpane, it just squishes. If you throw a stone on the other hand ... [ September 27, 2003, 03:58 AM: Message edited by: Scheer ] -
AI issues: Playing against the computer
Scheer replied to radcliffe's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Dear radcliffe, any halfway competent human will grill the AI after a short time. So I´d like to suggest to play ... [ drumroll ] humans. They´re evil. Nothing compares to loosing a game against another human. Winning is also cool. -
I got your "thank you" right here.

Single worst-ever turn of CMBB
Scheer replied to cbb's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Hi all, after loosing against the formidable Rhudat on a specific map, decided to play the same map again. Setup a devious plan to outflank his forces with six platoons of T34/85. He never would expect that ! After moving my tanks across one third of a map, I ran in a Sturmkompanie ( the one with LOTS of the 75 mm ATG ). Six turns later my eighteen tanks have been reduced to ONE. Arrggghhhhh .... -
What games do you play besides Combat Misson?
Scheer replied to Aragorn2002's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Nice suggestions , I´m playing CMBB ( got eight PBEMS running ), suck on it though ... Then theres ... IL2FB ( the BEST WW2 flightsim ) Galactic Civilisations ( when I´m not playing CMBB I play this , really tough AI and a support like here !) Hearts of Iron ( WW2 on a strategic scale, the whole world can be played ) and ( drumroll ) ... good ole Diablo 2 with Mrs. Scheer on our LAN. -
Greetings all from a n00b
Scheer replied to Brigadier's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Most mods are replacement BMP´s for the BMP´s that come with the game. You couldnt crash your game with them, as far as I know. If its a sound mod you change the standard WAV´s with new WAV´s. And dont forget : We are CMBorg. You will be assimilated. -
general question on russkie TD
Scheer replied to laxx's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Well, it isnt exactly a TD but the Valentine IX becomes aviable in jan. 43 . It´s 57 mm L/50 pentetrates 112 mm at 100 meters and 101 mm at 500 meters, 88 mm at 1000 meters. So in theory it COULD kill a cat. In proving this theory, I lost like five platoons of them against german armor ( mostly cats, though ) in two games. My tactics may suck to a high degree, but even at sumthing like 150 meters the shots bounced off. And the Valentine IX has no mg, bad against inf. However, I´ve read from some Ubergrog ( Jason_C ? ), that he was/is able to kill cats with Val´s. Its a gamble at best, I would say. But you get it in jan 43 ... Those other SU85 performed much the same way as his comrade. Now be nice and surrender ...

Vals are dead meat in my hand anyways ... At least it was a good distraction for my infantry assault. 8) And that Panther kill was sweet ...
-
I'll show you who the slacker is...ME!!! I posted once and then never checked back. You think you can out-slack me? Not a chance there, sunny-Jim. Honestly, after I posted here I got a deluge of PBEMs. Six running games and I think that is my limit. Keep this thing popping up and I will take up your offer when I clear some of the deadwood away. </font>

You´re whining about loosing one single tank ? What about my smoldering wrecks of Valentine IX´s , you´ve littered the battlefield with ? I shouldnt read so much about the value of Valentine IX´s, from those Ubergrogs like Jason_C, Fionn and so on. Obviously they are better players then poor, old Scheer. All my Valentines do, is exploding when a german sneezes in the near vicinity. BUT ... I try to add a Panther with a flank shot to that Kingtiger ... Come kitty , kitty ..
-
Andrew, when you look at the date of my first posting, that was BEFORE our pbem. Surely I wouldnt miss to post about an AUSTRALIAN opponent. And I dont think that a burning, mangled, smoking SU85 will do anything for you ... Did I mention, that my crack PzIVH punches four holes in succesion in your excuse for a tank ? Now on to kill that other SU85 ...

I have Biltongs and Old Dogs map packed installed. Both are highly recommended.

Question on "gamey" game play
Scheer replied to nevermind's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Now, I sure am gamey, but only against opponents who also are gamey. Against my beloved grogs I play mostly historically correct. Having said that, gamey tactics for CMBB ? As already mentioned the jeep/truck rush in the last turn(s) to the holy flag. Buying lots of SMG troops in early and mid war. Playing in unrestricted mode is gamey per se. -
Come, and I'll tell you a strange story
Scheer replied to Panzer76's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Well, there have been some like the killer shrek with five succesive hits, killing two of my Valentine IX´s. That was like sumthing out of " Twilight Zone". In a CMBO battle I had a kill of a Kingtiger with a lowly Daimler. You should have heard my friend, whos Kingtiger was on the receiving end ... -
That killer panzershrek ...
Scheer replied to Scheer's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Sounds like a veteran or crack shooter with a good combat bonus HQ nearby -- and a bit of good luck. I've bagged four tanks in one turn with only one miss at 120m using that combo before -- it's rare, but it does happen. Do you have a series of screenshots to immortalize the moment? Steve [/QB] -
Wow ... In a recent game against one of my PBEM adversaries I drove a platoon of Valentine IX´s through open terrain with some patches of wood. Yeah, I know I should have recced with infantry, but ... One of his panzershreks, hiding in the woods, scored five succesive hits on two of my tanks, killing both. Not even one miss. Distance was sumthing around eighty meters. I never saw this kind of marksmanship with a shrek. One or two hits, sure. But five in a row ?
