  1. I really like the in depth graphical guide showing various ways to deal with a given situation. Mix that sort of narrative with more theoretical arguments about various tactical aspects of the game, and I certainly think this is a winner. Getting to see how others solve battlefield "problems", so to speak, is a great way to learn because a lot of information can be gleaned from the reasoning behind the decisions that were taken during the course of the action. It is compelling reading as well, which also helps the learning process. So more AAR-style guides for various situations is what I recommend.
  2. Very true. I've had CMSF since its original release, but I haven't really played it much until I bought the BF and Marines bundle when it was released. It really is a pleasure to play now, and for the first time I'm actually longing for my next CM session. I fear that once the Normandy game is out, I might actually have to retire my social, family and work life in order to focus on playing the game.
  3. Yes. Imagine my surprise when Jeremy Clarkson popped out of an envelope and started barking at me.
  4. Looks like a fun campaign! I played the first mission and managed to secure the LZ with 10 minutes to spare. I did however suffer 4 WIA which was enough for me to fail the mission. The HQ squad was intact, and I got 100 points for securing the LZ. The AI wiĆ³n by 150 to 100 by incuring enough losses on me to earn some extra points, which I found strange considering it was "only" 4 WIA.
  5. DOH! Sometimes I wonder how I manage to make a living as a systems developer. Right-click and "Runs As Admin" did the trick...
  6. I just installed the Marine/Brit bundle and when I hit the CMSF shortcut nothing happens. The game doesn't start. No error messages, nothing.
  7. I'm running CMSF on Vista on my Aluminum MacBook (late 2008, 2.0 version with the GeForce 9400M card) and it is running flawlessly at 1280x800. Very nice indeed.
  8. Indeed, it would be very beneficial to have some sort of feedback on what is happening to your men. Perhaps CM needs to put the player "on the ground" in a more literal sense? We actually play the part of one of the commanders in the fight and therefore we should get the reports our real life counterpart would get if in a fight. What about sound feedback to simulate radio comms? IRL, if a company took casualties, the company commander would know about it ASAP. Make us the company commander and provide us with automatic feedback that actually draws your attention to an event. That would, for me, enhance the experience of this game immensly.
  9. I bought CM:SF just after the initial release but never actually played it at the time. I installed it last week and began toying around with a few battles. Yesterday I started the campaign and I have to say that I am very impressed with the way BFC have evolved the CM-engine. I love the realtime approach and the fact that you still can play WEGO if you like. the sounds are fantastic, and when the sh** really hit the fan in scenario two of the stock campaign I was in awe. Strykers pumping round after round into buildings that might harbour enemies while the squads dashed for their objectives mounted in their vehicles. Overhead mortars flew through the sky, dropping on targets further away from the immediate hot-spots, making it hard for the enemy to move up reinforcements. When the small arms fire triggered off upon first contact I realized that I had never before been this immersed by a CM-installment. I really can't wait to get my hands on some more modules and, later on, the WW2-era game done with this engine. Well done Battlefront.com! I'm one happy customer.
  10. Erm, so how do you get your guys to perform buddy aid on wounded soldiers? Can't find a command for it in the menu. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thank you Jon! It very much sounds like something I would be very interested in.
  12. Which book is the quote from? It sounds very interesting.
  13. I had a Blackadder in one of my games last night. Can't remember if was a Cpt. though.
  14. Ahhh... Many thanks Matt. It worked like a charm.
  15. Yesterday I played a PBEM turn and noticed some strange white blocks appearing over the text in some places. Today I loaded up a single player scenario and to my horror I saw that every last letter of text had vanished altogether. No scenario descriptions or scenario names are being displayed on the select scenario screen. I haven't changed anything in the CMBB catalouge, and I can't really remember altering my system in any way that could possibly have affected the game in this way. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
  16. I found Glantz' report on russian defensive tactics to be a very interesting and informative read.I highly recomend it.
  17. I'm having the exact same problem. I've just reinstalled the game and when I had finished downloading the first patch and tried to apply it I got the exact same error message as above. I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone able to help out a bit?
  18. Any good links to scenarios featuring the Finnish Front? I've tried google but drew a blank, so any suggestions are appreciated.
  19. In the briefeings they are. It's quite hillarious really. "Waffengrenadier division Liebstandarte".
  20. Thanks! I owe you a PBEM now.
  21. Where can I find the patch to get rid of the Waffengrenadiere icon? I've looked on Tom's CMHQ but can't find it. Help appreciated.
