  1. @Battlefront.com Hey Steve: Good to see you on the forums - can I take advantage of your inquisitive bug hunting mood from earlier in the thread? Here's an unintended consequence of the 4.01/4.02 patch that puts a real kink in the bocage terrain and presumably related infantry TacAI behavior (i.e. displacing into enemy fire) in CMBN. Some players like @PIATPunk called attention to this a few months ago and @BFCElvis has been helpful in logging it with a viable test scenario. You can view page six of the most recent conversation about this, which contains two files uploaded by PIATPunk reproducing the issue. In a game where the bocage is often as much a role player as the combatants, perhaps you'll agree this one constitutes more than a nag by a few Normandy buffs. Maybe a ready fix can be pushed now that the Rome to Victory dust has settled? As always, thanks for the countless hours of great wargaming over the last 20 years - you guys really are appreciated! I'm definitely looking forward to the Black Sea module and a fix for the CMBN bocage/infantry bug!
  2. @JoMc67 - interesting, I've never heard of that line. Advanced Squad Leader is as far back as I go - the notion of tiny cardboard StuG III's still brings joy to my soul. As I see it, ASL lives on as Combat Mission - how fortunate we are!
  3. Thanks to everyone for resurrecting this topic, as well as to @Elvis for being present and hopefully bumping it closer to the top of the internal Please Fix or Do Sumfink List. I know the R2V module took on a developmental life of it's own over the last months! CMBN is my favorite title and I too have held off starting any new games due to the counter logical infantry/bocage behavior.
  4. Echoing Howler's post above, is there information I can be pointed toward that mentions when BFC will re-direct their attention to correcting the lingering triggers of the "hedgerow gap charge?" Following the responsive, June release of 4.02, I haven't discovered much about any planned follow up. After the CMFI Rome module perhaps? If I have my facts straight, 4.02 reduced the incidents of infantry unduly breaking cover, but did not eliminate the issue as it relates to hedgerow features. I seem to have experienced it a handful of times in 4.02 while playing CMBN when infantry takes small arms fire. Given that hedgerow fighting characterized much of the action in this theater, this nagging issue personally strikes me as something of a "big, little thing." Thanks for getting me up to speed.
  5. BFCElvis: First, thank you for keeping us so well informed - you are doing a great job! Can you remind me how we install the patch to a game in progress to see the fixes take effect? It must be done while the game is saved in the "command" phase and then you can resume regular play, right?
  6. @Tantarantula My system specs are similar to yours (i7-8700, GTX1080, 32GB RAM, Win10) and I began experiencing regular crashes after 30-40 min. of play. I resolved the issue by rolling back from the latest Nvidia driver to version 388.71 as noted in this thread. If you are comfortable uninstalling/installing video drivers and don't mind using an older version, you may want to give it a shot. If you go this route, be aware - Windows will try to update the old driver, which will potentially resume the crashes.

Well Mord, it looks like the latest round of spike tongued invocations you have offered up to whatever pantheon of Lovecraftian horrors loaning you talent has paid off - again. What a debut - The SS Panzer and British Para are absolutely cracking. I am excited to see your treatment of the US and remainder of the Commonwealth forces. Well done on recognizing the point of diminishing returns on your previous work and mapping a new path of creative growth - that's artistic wisdom. For those who haven't tuned into the whispers in the darkness yet, Mord's a mighty gifted dude - just wait and see.
  8. @IanL Thanks for taking the time to spell all of that out. So, since I am up to date with V4 installed and both modules already activated, all I have to do is activate the Vehicle Pack key when prompted and I’m good to go, right?
  9. @IICptMillerII Thanks for the clear explanation - I was hoping that was the way the Pack is integrated. I am particularly interested in the SdKfz 251/16, M4 “Crab” and the Flakpanzer 38t. Yeah, that was my thought too. I suppose I could just plop down the cash and give it a go with my V4 key, but I would just as soon avoid any potential frustration ahead of time.
  10. I was considering buying the Vehicle Pack, however I had a few quick questions first… I am looking for the flexibility to add these new units to my own ORBAT’s in a “cherry picking” fashion. Are all of the new AFV’s/teams freely available for individual selection in the “Single Vehicles” and “Specialist Teams” menus of the Scenario Editor or are they solely embedded in the “Formations?” Ideally, I would also prefer to avoid a scattershot situation where some of the new units are available for individual selection while a subset can only be found within Formations. Reading the archives, there seemed to have been some confusion how to activate the Pack when it was launched regarding the correct license key(s) to use when prompted. Are the installation instructions on the BFC site still accurate now that V4 of CMBN is available (i.e. I will need to supply all of my module and V4 keys to activate the Pack - launch game supply V4 key > use “Activate” shortcut to activate each module)? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  11. Speaking of the Normal Dude, what happened to @ChrisND? Is he no longer affiliated with Battlefront? I enjoyed his Combat Mission Twitch streams and was glad to see a Battlefront representative enthusiastically showing off the game, offering development news and interacting with the customer base in real time. I can only assume he was fragged in retaliation over his brazen disregard for the well being of his AFV commanders.

  13. The legend returns - great to see you back at it Fuser! Do you think you can give the SdKfz 10/4 (20mm FlaK) introduced in the Market Garden Module your expert treatment? It really looks out of place without your reworked textures. Thanks for considering it! By the way, how are you guys formatting the “@Username” highlight/profile link in your posts?

  15. BletchleyGeek Thanks for taking the time to post such a detailed response - very helpful and much appreciated. I do tend to carry out the infantry aspect of the game almost exclusively via team maneuver. Given my style of play, this issue may not be so troublesome after all - just as you mentioned. sburke Thanks for the dual install tip. I own CMBN and CMBS (Win), both have been installed to their default directory locations using their default directory names. To make sure I understand... Basically, I just create copies of each of the root Combat Mission folders for each game within their existing default locations and rename them along the lines of "V4" and "V3." The difference for CMBS being that I need to create and rename two root folders vs. CMBN's one - "Combat Mission" within "Documents" and "Combat Mission Black Sea" within "Program Files (x86) > Battlefront." When I install each respective V4 upgrade, point the installer to the newly created V4 folders for each game. Is that it? Using this multi-version structure, are newly saved game files placed within each version specific "Saved Games" folder in "Documents" (i.e. V3 saved games are found within each game's "V3" "Saved Games" folder and the same for games saved while playing with V4)? Thanks again to you and BletchleyGeek. CptMiller I think you are right - I am intrigued by the new infantry spacing, corner peeking and as a mapmaker, the 3D object cloning tool offered in V4.
  16. Thanks to those of you who have documented the infantry hedgerow movement issue potentially exacerbated by v4. I was excited to purchase the upgrade, however the maps I play on feature the affected terrain type(s) prominently and I’m not willing to introduce frustration into my v3 gameplay, which I am currently enjoying very much! Is it too early for a consensus to have formed as to whether teams becoming unintentionally detached from their squads in certain terrain/movement conditions is an uncommon “corner case” or a frequent, predictable occurrence? Does it only happen when teams are joined as a squad or also when they are already split into individual teams? I am willing to try this. Is there a guide explaining how to create multiple installations of the game somewhere? After doing so, do you simply create a v3 and v4 shortcut to the respective exe.’s to launch the version you want to play?
  17. Another solid effort here Steppenwulf - well conceived and executed! I definitely admire your studious attention to detail and clean aesthetic. Thank you for sharing your work - it is a substantive enhancement to the game! By the way, the Orlan UAV and PKP are much better in v2 - kudos for being open to the correction!
  18. I see the SdKfz 231 (8 rad) made it into CMFB. Only having the demo at present, did the issue with the middle wheel (2nd axle from the front) on the left side (viewing the vehicle from the front) being vertically misplaced and not rotating when the vehicle is in motion get fixed? This also occurs in the latest CMBN/MG version as well. If not, there’s one to add to the minor bug list. As a light armor enthusiast, it would be great to see a fix back ported into CMBN/MG if there is another patch slated.
  19. Hey Steve: Granted it may be early, but have you guys started sketching out possible timeframes and settings for CMx3? Perhaps a past hypothetical (Fulda Gap '84), future fictitious action (Korea 2025) or will we return to WWII (Barbarossa '41)? Personally, I consider Battle for Normandy to be a real masterpiece at this point with Black Sea showing an exciting degree of promise. I'm curious if you can share a thought on at least the chronological direction the next iteration of CM may take. By the way, congrats on Final Blitzkrieg entering the homestretch - being able to play out scenarios in the Hurtgenwald is very enticing...
  20. weapon2010: I don't have the Battle Pack, but I had the same thing happen to me while trying to install the v3.12 patch. It could be that you have not extracted the contents of the .zip file you downloaded prior to attempting to install the Battle Pack. Try this - extract the contents from the .zip. Then open the newly extracted folder and double click the .exe file (note how it now appears as the circled star icon after extraction vs. the generic Windows icon prior to extraction). If your issue is the same as mine, then the installer should start working for you as expected.

  22. Steppenwulf: This is great work - good choice of images to use as icons and also an expert job of making sure they read clearly and cleanly within the UI. Thank you for sharing! Check your references for the Russian PKP GPMG and Orlan UAV - your icons for these two items depict the wrong real-world hardware. Other than that, well done!
