  1. Nice to see some feedback from SC players. I'm thinking of getting this one from NWS Online as well. I enjoyed SC a lot but never was able to get into SC2. It seems like there's a lot of potential in this new game and I look forward to hearing more comments/comparisons!
  2. According to everyone else who's posted, it's not the Gamespot review but a few votes by Gamespot readers. Hardly a "Gamespot review" in my opinion.
  3. Cant you use the mousewheel to raise and lower elevation?
  4. It looks to me like the barrels in the background are floating in the air. Maybe it's just me-a perspective issue?
  5. I wasn't impressed. I would rather have seen some actual gameplay footage used. Also it seems silly to have so much city featured in the trailer when it "appears" that most of the game takes place in the countryside.
  6. This picture is most impressive-have we seen any screenshots that come close to resembling this urban area? http://www.gamershell.com/screenpop.php?id=48144
  7. I'd love to come up with a list of must-have mods but if I could do that then I wouldn't have made this thread I agree that it's possible to just look at the mod announcements but that's better if you've started right from the start and can update right from the get go. Doing it 3 years on is a bit daunting! One thing I would ask of modders is please please please provide a pictures of the stock version as well as your new and improved version so that I can for myself if I want to download it or not. Filtering through a list of 10,000 bmps only to find one part of the tank I'm looking for is a bit overwhelming.
  8. Sigh I was over at CMMODS but to be perfectly honest there is just FAAAR too many mods. It's a hell of a lot of work to go through each one, check out what it looks like and then download them all individually. The site isn't exactly userfriendly. There's no ratings (that I can see) and you can't search by most downloaded so I cant find out what the 'must have' mods are. I realize there's a reason why it's like that but that doesn't make it any easier for me. I also need a bit of a tutorial in terms of the different BMP's. Are Normandy buildings and ETO buildings different BMP's? Or if I download the normandy set, will my german villages look like Normandy? I don't know if anybody has thought of this but how about the whole forum gets together and votes on what they consider to be essential mods for CMAK? I'm talking about mods that basically improve the look of the stock game without making any drastic changes (ie total conversions, or mods that will only work in one type of weather so that you have to save your originals.) Then once that is done we could throw together a modpack and then put it up as a torrent and people on the forum could seed it for everybody else. I think many people use torrents and this would be a perfect use for it. I know the folks over at Octopus Overlords did a similar essential mods pack for Elder Scrolls and it worked quite well. That way there wouldnt be a huge bandwith cost for one website.
  9. I've just recently reinstalled Combat Mission:AK and I'm interested installing some mods. Basically I want the game to look as good as possible. I'm assuming that some (if not all mods) improve on the look rather than simply providing a different look. I was wondering if anybody could provide any helpful tips for which mods to use.
  10. As far as I know modders have made ridiculous numbers of new maps. There's no need to reuse old maps.

    Hello?

Things have gotten pretty damn quiet in here of late. Did everybody decide to head back over to the General Forum until the game is released?

    FAQ??

Well Russellmz did a faq for Combat Mission and Sodball did a faq for CMBB so I think that obligates them to do another one Are they interested in TOW by chance?

    FAQ??

Combat Mission always had a community based FAQ stickied to prevent any redundant questions. Will we see one here for TOW? Maybe that way I won't have to see any threads asking about soldiers in buildings or whether it will be on the Mac.
  14. Ahh ok that's a good enough explanation for me. For a second there I had thought that the entire scenario had descended into an unrealistic clickfest RTS deathmatch
  15. Perhaps someone could explain just what the heck is going on in this pic.
  16. I think TOW should steal the voices from the Company of Heroes beta. American Paratrooper: "shoot...****...SHOOT!!"
  17. Not sure if this has been asked before. I see that the AI can take control of other guns and vehicles if need be but how bout their own personal weapons? When a GI runs out of ammo will he pick up a MP40 lying around? That's one feature from Close Combat that I thought was really cool.
  18. I think the problem is that people are equating RTS games with clickfest and there's not necessarily a corollation there. For example Warcraft and Starcraft are clickfests. It's all about speed, and tank rushes. Close Combat on the other hand was amazingly slow. I had ample time to make any decision I wanted to. Sometimes it was too slow! I would yell at my men to hurry up and get their asses over to that hedgerow! That's one thing about CM-even without the pauses that game is slow as molasses!!! It takes forever for your men to get anywhere. In other words it's realistic. Apparently, TOW is also realistic which tells me that movement rates and scale will be appropriate. Someone mentioned a four player game (four players? this is news to me!) and if I was playing a four player game and everybody wanted to pause (tactical pause not going to the washroom pause) at a different time then I would get frustrated as hell. Whew! Now with all that said, if it doesn't detract from work on other areas of gameplay and if there is a setting that you can check at the begining of multiplayer set up to allow it or disallow it (tactical pauses as opposed to the regular pause) then I say to the developers go for it! People can state in the opponents forum whether or not they will play with tactical pause function enabled and those who do will play with each other and those who don't will play with each other. If you don't agree then I guess you won't play with each other! I suspect though, that since it is an RTS game by design, the group that will only play with tactical pauses will be relatively small compared to the true RTS group. But if that's a limitation you're willing to accept then I won't try to keep you from it!
  19. There's a difference between pausing the game to go attend to the needs of the wife and pausing every 30 seconds so you can issue some new orders. I'm all for the former and completely against the latter. I think most RTS games allow pausing (a la Starcraft) but don't allow you to issue any orders. I think this would be best as it would allow for a stoppage when real life needs came up but still wouldn't slow down the tempo of the gameplay much.
  20. But CMBB and CMAK are turn based games!
  21. Hmm yeah I don't know about the whole pausing multiplayer. I think it would be frustrating as hell to play someone who was always pausing. I suppose that the "pausers" could always play with other pausers but then the games would be 3 times as long. Could you imagine watching a AT round hurtling towards a tank only to have it pause in mid-air for 30 seconds? That would be downright infuriating!
  22. Remember the dead cows in Close Combat? Those were like elephants!
  23. I liked to edit the file of Close Combat that had the names and add in the names of myself and my friends. It was something fun to do to see if we ever showed up in game and then follow along in our progress!
