Oh yeah, and drones can let you drop the hammer pretty much anywhere too. Not as fancy as satellites but available in game

SlowMotion reacted to Howler in Spotting for Artillery
If the spotter is eliminated during the 'receiving' or 'spotting' phases, the artillery will self cancel within a few minutes. If the spotter is eliminated and the artillery is in 'firing' mode then it will complete the mission and you have no means of ordering a ceasefire (as there is no spotter controlling the mission).
A spotter is free to move, fire, hide, etc. during the 'receiving' phase. In the 'spotting' phase, the spotter must be able to see the target (point, line, or area) to minimize the number of spotting rounds used to advance the artillery to a 'firing' mode.
The spotter must be within LOS of the target during the 'spotting' phase. The spotter can move, or act, freely during both the 'receiving' and 'firing' phases of the mission regardless of LOS. LOS is only important during the 'spotting' phase.

I don't know if this is the same thing, but in CMBS during TOC testing we noted that there was a bug where if a team was split in a certain way it seemed to either gain or lose a javelin.

    SlowMotion,
Something most people don't know is that when the IDF's 190th Tank Brigade (pure, tanks only) famously got slaughtered by a deluge of AT-3/SAGGER or Malyutka and RPG-7  fire, it was facing twice the normal weapon quantities. Why? The Egyptians stripped those weapons out of the second echelon Army still on Egypt's side of the Suez Canal, doubling the AT firepower of the Army already crossing. Also, the IDF first encountered Russian ATGMs in the 1967 War in the form of the AT-1/SNAPPER or Shmel.

    https://www.scribd.com/document/380593797/At-1-Snapper

The SAGGER first saw action in the Vietnam War on April 23, 1972, a year before the Yom Kippur War.

SlowMotion reacted to Vet 0369 in is it planned to let infantry ride tanks?
We have enough AFV's  so we don't have to ride on tanks. Even the Marine AAVs, as thin skinned as they are, in enough supply that infantry doesn't need to ride on a tank. Back in the day, my M2 60mm mortars would have been dropping rounds on and around the tanks. Not to hurt the tanks, but to take out the infantry. I wouldn't want to be anywhere a tank. It's just too dangerous.

I doubt it very much as tank riding is pretty rare in the modern era - sure somebody will come in here and post a picture to prove that somebody has done it but it is infrequent and extremely rare in combat and that is the main reason I think Battlefront opted not to make it a feature of the Shock Force upgrade to the latest engine.
Half a mile is also only a 5-7 minute walk so unless your scenario is 30 minutes or less, it shouldn't be that much of a drama to hoof them there. Of course it sucks if you're the guy carrying the GPMG and a few hundred rounds of link but then in CM you're never that guy so it doesn't matter so long as you keep on top of the unit's fatigue levels.

SlowMotion got a reaction from AlphaZulu90 in Bug in Cain and Abel scenario?
There are lots of buildings without door in West Yard area.  If there is no door how are soldiers supposed to get in and out of a building?

    Is this a bug?

In my opinion a building without a door (even through the wall to next building) makes no sense.
It's like a bridge in the middle of a field that does not cross any obstacle like a river.
Why build a bridge there when a vehicle could drive forward just as well without the bridge?
So having buildings without doors, but that still have units inside is like having a tank without gun but still can fire rounds and destroy other tanks.
Maybe a scenario design bug or something.

Welcome aboard Rafterman, and Merry Christmas.
When I started the CMSF1, it was just with the base game on PC because it wasn't ported to the Mac. As soon as BFC released Marines for PC, I snatched it up. I bought the "Big Bundle" when they released CMSF1 for the Mac.
if you intend to continue playing CMSF2 for a long time, I recommend that you purchase the "Big Bundle" that doesn't include the base game since you already have that. If I may make a suggestion, download the Demo. That way you can play each of the supplied missions that relate to each of the modules, and determine which of the three modules you like the best. Don't be misled by both the Stryker formations and the Marines being U.S. Forces, the formation, and most of the vehicles are very different. For example, a Stryker squad is nine soldiers; a Marine squad is 12 or 13 Marines. Their rifles are different, and with the exception of basically just the HMMV, most all of their vehicles are different also. Marine AAVs are amphibious, and Javs and heavy weapons are at the Company or Battallion level.
Now some here on the forum might suggest that I might be a bit biased (0369 is a USMC military occupational specialty code (MOS) for Infantry, Small Unit Leader), I would suggest that unless you have a hankering for a specific nation, and you can afford only one module at a time, that you pick up the Marines module as the play style is very different from the Stryker Infantry.
My two cents, I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever module you chose.

I agree with the NATO recommendation however, both the UK and USMC expansions come with a number of scenarios (a dozen-ish each or so) plus a campaign. There is plenty in each expansion, but I agree the NATO one brings lots of new vehicles and several countries, plus a few campaigns.

I've long predicted that any Saudi offensive against Syria (or other nations who actually know how to fight) would very likely finish up in Riyadh.....They can't even beat the Houthis, with the full support of the US and most of the GCC, but now they fancy taking a shot at Turkey, the SAA, Iran & Hezbollah, all at once!
    This is gonna be priceless!

Actually that is supposed to work. The player with just the base module should be able to use base game factions and units and their opponent should be able to use what ever units they have access too.

SlowMotion reacted to IICptMillerII in Javelins
The javelin is a game changer in modern conventional warfare. A light infantry company in strykers has enough javelin munitions to wipe out an armored battalion. It's a revolution in infantry anti-tank capability not seen since the first introduction of the ATGM in the later 60's.
The TOW-2A is a conventional warhead that is effective against tanks/buildings/fortifications. The TOW-2B in Black Sea is a top-down attack munition that is most effective against armored vehicles and certain types of fortifications, such as bunkers. What the tac ai chooses to engage with what munitions is in large part dependent on the capability of the munitions. This likely explains the difference in behavior you're seeing between CMSF2 and CMBS.
    Very unlikely.

I have a new version in the works that will and it will support chatting.
In the meantime you can override the game files directory to get it to work. Go to the preferences and edit the Shock Force 2 entry and manually change the game files directory.

This brings up the topic of 'huge maps'. Huge maps and on-foot infantry don't exactly mix. So you're obliged to use your ICVs as 'battlefield taxis' to get your troops to within striking range, otherwise you'll use up half your game time just walking. The trick is to do it safely.

Admittedly, I've been a good a good customer over the years - I think I've bought all the CM games, modules and packs except Afghanistan - but this price is insane.
First I bought the Shock Force 1 big bundle on special for the price of a restaurant meal for two, and now you've basically sold me the Big Bundle upgrade for the price of a takeaway curry and Naan!
I don't know how you expect to make a living - but thank you though

With the M1127 did you select the passenger unit and hit the "open up vehicle button ( ] ) ? Sometimes when a vehicle is missing a crew member the only way to open up the vehicle and employ the use of it's weapon is by selecting the passenger unit then hit the open up vehicle button.

CMSF with all modules has a huge amount of units and many great scenarios, so it was a very good game when the last modules were published.
And now CMSF2 with newer game engine is even better.
