  1. Is there a way to fight to the death? With the timer, it makes me feel like I have some un-freaking-finished business. There are still targets to kill. I really am not interested in a tactical victory, I want to kill all of my opponents. So, how do I play until there is no enemy left?
  2. I have ran this game 8 times. After each game, I am unable to run Explorer, nor use CTRL-Alt-Delete to close anything. Nothing responds and I end up having to power down. During my four years in Electrical Engineering, I learned abit about programming. Did you guys make a boo-boo on releasing ram?
  3. Deluxe version for me...I needed a new mouse pad anyway, and having one with game commands on it is brilliant!
  4. Semper Fi. I have a favorite map now...house to house. I sneak around to the hill just East of their base and it gives me a chance to practice gunnery. Call of Duty 1, 2, Soldier of Fortune 2, Delta Force 2, and Far Cry gave me my mouse coordination. All are good games but sabot or heat rounds bouncing off road wheels just seems queer to me. If you hit a road wheel with a shot from a 120mm cannon, that road wheel is coming the hell off, and chances are great that the fragments from that road wheel disentegrating are going to involve some track dismemberment.
  5. That was a lot of good information. I will have to practice some with this new data and see if I can get a better shot/kill ratio. Hey Redcon-5, I am a former US Marine. I spent some quality time with 2nd Tank Bn. I am not a tanker though, I was a tactical air controller and one of the ideas I came up with was to mount a PPN-18 transponder on a tank....long story, but it was so that the A-6E Intruder could see where the tank was, and the tanker could tell the pilot where the enemy is relative to his position, thus enabling a nice airstrike with very little communication and a smaller chance of friendly fire. I am not sure if it is in practice today since comm technology has changed so much. But that was my claim to fame in the early 80's! I have a degree in electronics engineering and know a few things about physics. Sometimes it seems like what I see is just not real, but then I have to stop myself and remember...these battles aren't happening on EARTH! LOL, there is a learning curve, and I am on the baby end of it. Thanks for tolerating my frustration, I am just trying to get better at it, and it is a fun game, one of the funnest I can remember in a long time.
  6. Ahh...ok. Thanks for the reply. When should I use SABOT? I am guessing shorter ranges (maybe less than 2500 meters?) and against the main battle tank? What is HE effective against? Once in awhile when I have HE in the tube and have no target, I superelevate and launch a round into the enemy camp...once in awhile it reports that I knocked out a sensor, one time I took out three sensors with one un-aimed round! Now that was luck. Will HE kill enemy turrets like the 76 and 90mm? What is the difference between the 76 and the 90mm turrets other than tube diameter? Does the 76 shoot faster to compensate for less wham? Otherwise, why use it?
  7. I had an 120mm gun shooting at the enemy from a nice vantage point at a range of 3000 meters. I shot 19 sabot rounds at a light tank only to watch them bounce off. They were even bouncing off the wheels. I changed to HEAT, let fly about 5 more rounds and they landed on the vehicle and made a nice fire, but still no kill. I changed to HE, let fly 3 more rounds and made a lot of explosions, went back to sabot, fired one more shot and killed it. That is a lot of rounds to kill a light tank. I was stationary, hull-down, it was stationary (moving a few meters back and forth) and in the open. What am I doing wrong? I am not aiming at the turret...point in fact, with all of those rounds, I was aiming everywhere trying to find a sweet spot. In the end it was just luck I think. What is up with that? Rounds shouldn't bounce off the road wheels, should they?
  8. You people are so mature. Where is mommy when you need her.
  9. Were those joy sticks perhaps analog? The X52 major axis (x and y) are digital and don't do anything in the game. Although the buttons do work. My biggest problem is getting crossed up while trying to move the tank, aim the gun, and zoom in, and trying to hit G to zoom in further, and then to select Heat or HE, and all the while still maneuvering the tank. It seems a joystick would be better.
  10. I play this game like a pure tank game...anyone remember the original M1 TANK PLATOON by Microprose back in the day? Well, this game has that taste and quality. I love it so! I was wondering if there is a way to use a joystick? I have a Saitek X52 and it would just be cool to use it in this game.
  11. Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I've been playing on the network for about 10 hours today. A LOT TO LEARN, but it is just a fun kind of game where the learning experience just happens and it isn't a pain like some other games. I got a chance to play with a few of you earlier this morning. It was excellent. One thing I am having a hard time with (other than staying alive) is how to control the bots. I want them to move with me, or to just lay down some fire, how do I tell them what to do? The variety of weapons and various EW systems are outstanding. You guys did a great job designing this one.

Nice to know! I just bought the game today too...I really enjoyed the single player. In muptiplayer I want to be a Mortar guy...
  13. I got sick and had to stay home from work today (what a bummer, huh?) and I was browsing around the net looking for something to do. I found the demo of this game and after playing it for a few hours I got solidly hooked on it! I had to buy it...I can't wait til it finishes downloading. This is the coolest new game I've played in a very long time. Good job! Alan "ATGM"
  14. Hello fellow tread-heads. I read your posts with interest. Seems like there is a great community here. I found this forum while searching for new PC War Games through a community site I visit called the Wargamer. I am a 1980's era US MARINE, so a lot of what I know for fact is well over 2 decades old. I served with 1st Marine Tanks on several occassions, but my main job was that of Tac-Air controller for the 7th Marine Regiment. By the time USMC M-60A3 tanks engaged Iraqi armor in 1991, I was living well in a beautiful house in a very quiet neighborhood in NW Washington State. I was eating hot meals, had a warm bath every day, a beautiful wife to wake up to, and no smell of burning diesel at all. I am not sure what I can add, if anything, to this forum, but it is nice to find people interested in the same things I am. I look forward to any replies. Semper Fidelis, ATGM
  15. Thanks for your reply. I wrote 3Dfx as well, asking for some support. Alan
