  1. I prefer CMFI. Even the scenarios where you got to slog up a mountain against entrenched MG fortified enemies. Just not in to tank duels. I am awaiting the fictional 1946 game where Patton fortified with ex-Wehrmacht troops invades Russia. Wouldn't that be fun.
  2. Not a 3.0 feature. I had a MG hammer away at a wall to get to a keyholed ATG on the other side. After about a minute it punched through and then quickly ground up the ATG. Watching it from the ATG side was a thing of pure joy. One of my favorite CM moments.
  3. Patience. That is what makes this game special. My problem is I have no patience....
  4. Was your squad hunting, walking, running, or sitting tight looking around? Give a squad some time to look around and you can usually spot items realistically. Walk or god forbid run you will hit an ambush and get slaughtered. Go for a walk in the woods and you will quickly see that it is very hard to spot items 50 meters away if they are hidden.
  5. but don't tell me you have not done something similar. You set up an attack on an enemy strong point. You have a squad laying down covering fire while you carefully send a second squad around the flank to take it out. Everything is working as planned as the enemy is all laying prone like a bunch of sleeping babies. All of a sudden something flies towards your flanking squad (random ricochet), their icon flashes, and they pause for a second before continuing on their mission. You heart stops for a moment fearing that the attack will fail without that man. Then you look carefully at the screen and breath a sigh of relief and urge the rest on when you realize the man down is just carries an ordinary rifle.....
  6. What release should be given after you have updated to 3.0 and then added the new "Upgraded 3.0 upgrade"? I am still getting 2.20 which leads me to believe the hot fix was not applied. As an ex-SW product manager for a large software company, I admit to being totally dumbfounded by the release naming convention.
  7. It creates smoke that I bet obscure spotting. Also good for keeping warm and brewing up some tea or coffee as long as it is in a dell and not seen by an enemy FO.
  8. I love 3.0 and really appreciate the command lines. For the first time in CM2 I have been able to keep my command structure in place.
  9. Hey - That was my quote and I never saw Steve's reply. Thank you for posting this.
  10. I have a new name for my little fellow, Sherman:}
  11. Glad to hear it as I am really enjoying 3.0. I even saw a very small grenade (I think) induced fire in some woods today which I did not think was included in the features. Nice touch. BTW, which one of you is fixing the campaigns?:} Do it right and you could have a new revenue stream to work from......
  12. WEGO. I had a situation where there was a PAK tucked down an alley for a keyhole position. I had a MG that did not have LOS on the PAK so I aimed it at the PAK but with a house in the way. The HMG shot throw a window and hammered at the wall beside the PAK for a while and after a minute or so broke threw and then spreayed the PAK disabling it. Looking at if from the PAKs view you see the wall getting beat up but holdng before the rounds start to go through and hit the crew. It was really amazing theater that you would never see in RT.
  13. Umm, excuse me. Have you not seen Kelly's heros? There is no way to recreate this campaign without tank riders!!!!! With that said, I would take flame weapons as a compromise.
  14. Is there a plan for flame weapons and tank riders? Frankly, I would have paid $20 and waited a 2-3 more months without a complaint if those features were included.
  15. Ken - You could be the last person I would want to disagree with, but I think $100 is probably closer to the right price for one of these games with perpetual upgrades.
  16. I am really disappointed that flame throwers did not make the cut. "When you set out to take Vienna, take Vienna". I hate half measures.
  17. First, I disagree with the premise of this thread. BF's CM series games are somewhere between fairly priced and outrageously cheap depending on where you fit in the grog scale. With that said, I think BF could monetize their investment better with more official battles and campaigns. I think they could also reach a little further in to the mainstream and extract more money out of their core audience with their existing engine and some investment in a real campaign framework. How many close combat games have been released on an engine that is perhaps halfway between CM1 and CM2?
  18. Honestly, they are all basically the same. The difference between them from an entertainment factor is more correlated to the actual scenario design and those things they call campaigns.
  19. Near that IS3 or T34 is the absolute last place I would want to be if it got in to a real fight with the Ukrainians. Give me a pickup truck with some speed and a few soldiers with PTRDs and AKs any day over that lumbering deathtrap. Next thing you know an IL2 is going to be flying over Odessa. With that said, we are now seeing some great ideas for partisan tank rider uniform mods.
  20. Please. Build a real campaign system before dealing with this headache.
  21. I am having similar problems. I even have a mortar squad 15M from its Platoon HQ with both sounds and visual contact and the platoon HQ says it is out of contact with the mortar squad. Is there a CC/mortars 101 for dummys available anywhere?
  22. That was my plan and achieved a minor tactical victory that felt like kissing my dog (I have no sisters). I was honestly surprised at how the Ruskies easily killed my keyholes. Adolph would not have been happy with my tactical victory.
  23. 1999, when I first saw what a 3D wargame looked like. It has been a love/hate relationship ever since.
