  2. Only a few weeks ago I reinstalled all 3 games and got back into competitive CMx1 ladder & tournament games over at (whisper it) The Few Good Men. I did buy CMSF when it first came out but it never got under my skin like the other titles did (and still do), looking forward to trying out CMBN.
  3. Long time since I posted here.. I can't get my head around the modern weapon systems in CM:SF and can't get motivated enough to try harder.. I have never stopped playing CMAK in particular and actually started a CMBO PBEM game today, fully modded it still looks really good. I've dusted off all the old hard copies of JasonC's excellent tactical posts I made a few years ago and I'm raring to go
  4. This post sums it up for me, and I'm afraid that Abbott's outburst above was even more disappointing than the subject of this thread ..
  5. [pops head above parapet] I note the 'chill out' comments from Steve but I feel I need to make my voice heard as well. I only ever play via PBEM, mostly in tournaments. Without some sort of PBEM-like system in CM2 I can foresee that a lot of people like me would stick to CMBB and CMAK for the majority of our games, and CM2 would be of curiosity value rather than the next must-have CM release.. [ducks]
  6. Mark Twain had it covered; quite witty for a colonial.. A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all. Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli. Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.
  7. For everyone eagerly awaiting the release of CMAK can I recommend the following book - 'Tobruk, The Great Siege Reassessed' by Frank Harrison (Arms and Armour Press). A quote from the flyleaf states "..a rare book - an analytical reassessment by a veteran of the campaign." and this really sums it up. It covers the whole scope of the campaign, from the thoughts and decisions of the generals to the daily tribulations of the ordinary soldiers described by one who was there, and covers in great detail the armour and combined arms actions that took place. Highly recommended.

  9. Oh no it wasn't..! I know it's too late for me and not really any of my business but I suffered a similar fate. Only difference was that I chose not to prolong the agony after I quickly lost my meagre 3 German armoured units (2 PzIVs & 1 PzII) to PJs 5 rampaging T34s. In short, if I were still in the tourney I would be voting against random pre-game casualties..
  10. As PJ will be finding out around now I have surrendered our game. The reason? Well of the dozen or so tanks I selected I got 2 Pz IVs, (yes the 2 he's already knocked out..) plus one Pz II (ditto). All I have left to face his 5 or 6 T34s are a handful of vanilla HTs, 3 20mm armed ACs, a couple of fragile flak HTs and a quantity of veteran but unfit infantry. As I have no realistic AT capability it would be a slow drawn-out defeat for me which would go against the fun theme of the tourney. Which is almost word for word what I told PJ.. Enjoy the rest of the tourney folks, I shall continue to lurk on this thread to find out what happens..
  11. Not wishing to insert any spanners but I have already sent my setup file back to PJ and consider it to be a game in progress..
  12. Madmatt in disguise? Well there is a slight resemblance I suppose... I'm looking forward to hearing from P.J. and finally getting started
