  1. Weight, perhaps? A ship can carry a lot more than a light armored vehicle. Plus the Army and Navy don't really like to share.
  2. I think the omniscience is the worst. But like you said the game would be dull if it were restricted. Imagine a game where you are the commander, in a tent in the woods, listening to fragments of radio calls and being handed slips of paper with fragmented information. You could issue orders but you would have to infer the results. No total situational awareness. No cool explosions. None of the things that are so much fun to watch. It would be realistic but not much fun.
  3. Does deliberately exiting units off of the map count against you in a battle? I am building quite a truck park in a scenario I am playing. Should my opponent wander in there it will be easy pickings. Would I be better off to order them off of the edge of the map than chance a massacre? I have looked in the manual, and it does not seem to address victory points and exiting units other than in scenarios where one of the goals is to exit them. I could disperse the trucks, but that would be a PITA. I'm also not sure if driving them off of the map would be 'gamey' or not. I could be depriving the enemy of possible points by moving beyond the artificial boundaries of the game map. Such a conundrum. I am verklempt.
  4. It was set in Italy, if I remember right, but let's not forget about the television show 'Combat!' with Vic Morrow. I don't remember what tanks they used for what.
  5. I was on a nuclear submarine. I boiled water with hot rocks.
  6. Does that mean the next version will be set in the Pacific theater? That's where all the Marines were, the American ones anyway.
  7. This thread inspired me to recreate the old A/H Tobruk "Firefight A: Queen of the Desert". It is 13 Italian M13/40's vs. 3 Mathilda II's. It was a real bear to port the entirely flat Tobruk map to CMAK, I know. In the first play through the result was the same as in the board game. The Italians were completely destroyed by turn 5. I might play with it and see if I can come up with terrain where the Italians have a chance.
  8. It made it to Sacramento! The envelope was waiting on the porch when I got home. Thanks BFC!
  9. Although everyone here is being very nice I would still like to say...Please don't feed the trolls.
  10. Try it, it's fun! Have you never witnessed a surrender in CM?</font>
  11. Yes, the game should tell you that the other side has surrendered, and you should get a major victory or higher. I have never seen anybody with their hands in the air. The AI will surrender when one side's morale gets very low whilst its casualties get very high. If you are getting messages talking about 'ceasefire' and your victory margins are not wide I would say you have seen a problem.
  12. pcpilot, I'll play with yours if you play with mine! I'm also trying to adapt 'The Guards Counter-attack'. It's my first attempt at a scenario and I wanted to concentrate on learning the editor on a basic map. By using this scenario as a basis I was able to eliminate alot of the thinking about OOB's and victory conditions and concentrate on the mechanics. Besides, since it is the first scenario it is surely the one that is the most familiar to all who have pleyed SL! I had some trouble with the map too. In addition to the road intersections I had trouble with the orientation of some of the factory buildings. They run diagonally on the SL mapboard, but factories and contiguous large buildings seem to want to be square to the map edges in the editor. I solved this problem by deciding that this was an adaptation and not a direct translation. I didn't have the trouble that you did with the extra officers. My OOB is pretty close and the placement follows the scenario. I did discover that you could drive yourself nuts tweaking all of the unit parameters! Should this leader have one heart or two? I also now appreciate the effort it takes to crater a map, especially with the itsy bitsy ones. If I never do another scenario I have at least tasted the work required to produce one. It builds appreciation. Anyway, I would love to see your take on it. I am currently playing mine PBEM with one of my usual opponents and have foisted it unsolicited upon another to play as the Russians against the AI. So please send me yours, my email address is in my profile.
  13. Are you sure that the partisans did not surrender? That would be unilateral.
  14. Don't you have to pay Microsoft a gazillion dollars to get a license to develop for the x-box? I seem to remember seeing that posted somewhere. If it's true then it would be a big roadblock on the path to portage. Perhaps those interested in a x-box version (not me, btw) would like to take up a collection?
