  1. A car dealership close to where I live with the most funny and appropriate name for a car dealer ever... Dick Witham
  2. Vergeltungswaffe proves my point. US is officially out of new ideas. Great reference, BTW.
  3. Since TV/Hollywood has run out of ideas and are remaking so much from the 70's and 80's, that's a behind-the-scenes shot from the lot of "CHiPs: Baghdad". Or Since the US military has run out of ideas, they are bringing back motorcycle troops. This is bad news for BFC as people will clamor for their inclusion in CM:SF, much like they did for horses in CMx1.
  4. I've seen thread mention QB maps/map packs but can't find them in the Repository. Anyone know where I can find them? I've browsed the Maps section but don't see much.
  5. I saw mention in another thread of an artillery mod you did back in April. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?p=1131567#post1131567 I went to the FileFront link but the file is no longer there. Could you post it again to either FileFront, here or at GreenAsJade's site? Your sounds mods, especially the distant versions, are the best and really add immersion to CMSF. Thanks in advance. Keith
  6. Having both read the book and watched the series, the series diverges from the book in many instances. The book itself is embellished by the author, your choice as to how much. Better book is "One Bullet Away" by Nate Fick (Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon commander depicted in "Generation Kill"). Probably much more accurate account, especially of his problems with the Company commander ("Encino Man") and "Kasey Kasem". It wasn't nearly as dramatic as it was protrayed in the series, which was even more dramatic than the book. I think Fick has been critical of "Generation Kill", calling parts of it BS. Two of the Marines in the interview with Evan Wright were "technical advisors" to the show, Reyes and Kucher. Reyes comes off as a complete douchebag. Not sure about Kucher. Anyway, my 2 cents.
  7. Not just the latest Nvidia drivers. I've tried all kinds of combinations from 180 on and still see about the same average FPS. I don't have a top spec machine but close to yours and the framerates fluctuate wildly between 15-20 FPS to 60 FPS. One thing that seems odd is I get better framerates with FSAA set. Strange. Hoping for an Nvidia fix (not likely) or Battlefront finds some kind of inefficiency in their code. Crossing my fingers for 1.21.
  8. Quick test in a night battle shows that the latest Nvidia drivers (191.07) still have the all buildings flash bug. Time to rollback.
  9. George, Same here. Stupid job! Getting in the way of CM! Maybe tomorrow or this weekend I can send a save game.
  10. MikeyD, I thought I was getting slaughtered on the second floor as well. I'll check this again when I can. I know there is a LOS problem someone posted on the CMSF general forum a couple of weeks ago where they were able to spot and shoot through a building to the second floor.
  11. George, Will do when I get the chance. CMSF settings: Textures=Best Model=Balanced Trees=On Shadows=On AA/AS=On Nvidia settings: AA=4x AS=8x (maybe 16x) Let me know if there are other settings you need. Also, could you provide both your CMSF and card settings so I can do a comparison. Strange thing is, AA or AS settings don't seem to impact FPS that much. 16x was actually faster at times than 4x or even with AA turned off completely (both in CMSF and on the card). MikeyD, Only using FRAPS because I noticed some stutter/chug and wanted to see how bad it was. I rarely use it except to benchmark games and adjust settings until I can get 24 FPS or higher.
  12. I know, I know. When it's ready. Reason I ask is because of one very nasty bug I ran into last night. The upper-level/balcony "negative cover" bug. Played a battle where my units were in ambush position at the start in upper-levels or balconys. No time to redeploy before enemy contact. Once the shooting started, every man in 3 of my squads was down in less than 30 seconds. Nasty bug that is detracting from the game a bit as it is putting artificial limits on the player (avoid upper-levels and balconys). Any information is appreciated.
  13. Nvidia 9800GT (512MB) w/ 182.5 drivers (minor rev might be off) Core2 Duo E7200 2.53Ghz 2GB DDR2 1066 RAM WinXP Pro SP3 Old to CM, new to CMSF. Really getting into it now with 1.20. I've searched for and found about every thread related to this but still don't have a resolution that gives decent framerates, even in small battles. With the specs I've listed above, I would expect to see something higher than the typical 18-22 FPS I'm averaging. Maybe I'm expecting too much from my machine. Not 100% certain but I've noticed that either craters, trenches or certain building types really seem to drag down the FPS but only when rendered close up. I'm talking a drop from 45-60 FPS to 20 or less FPS, even with a small map/battle. I know that ATI and Nvidia seem to be screwing the pooch on their drivers lately but there seems to be an inefficiency in the code somewhere since the lower FPS only occurs when certain objects are present. Any feedback is appreciated.
  14. Very sorry to hear this. I always waited in anticipation of ANY mod Gordon released. Get well and much success in all that you do. A former member of the CMMOS cabal
  15. WOW! I'd like to see the origins of this "fairy" tale. I'm guessing that Wikipedia strikes again.
