the right freakin direction!  Targeted extrajudicial killing of Hamas leadership with precision is how to fight a terror network.  Not dropping high rises.

This just shows how it could be being tackled...

It really shows the war in Gaza for what it is an excuse to remove the people from the area and give more land to be settled.

As noted time and time again these actions will not make Israel safer and will not bring security to the region.

If folk want safety for Israel this is absolutely the wrong approach.

Russia has the excuse that their targeting systems are crap, the IDF are hitting exactly what they want and when they want to.

This makes imo the IDF worse than the Russians yet they are not being held to account.

Send them more ammo to murder more innocents to make Israel (and the world) less secure...

    Dohhh...

Or better yet, get some western journalists to film the whole thing.

Good luck finding many journalists left alive in that area, the number of deaths have peaked and even in "safer" areas they have specifically been shot by IDF forces in the recent past.

The BBC have been trying to show balance by reporting both sides of what is happening in Israel outside Gaza and have had IDF troops intimidation when interviewing Palestinian activists.

Israeli citizens who have tried to raise their opposition have been falsely arrested and intimidated by the police.

The courts independence are under attack by the government and before this horrific terrorist attack parts of the IDF were striking in protest against the extreme right wing government.

The attack has allowed the extremists in the Israeli government to try and use it for their own ends.

As has been said on other threads if you want to be the good guy you need to do the right things.

  3. There have been videos circulating on a whole raft of very poor discipline in the IDF all related to the way they treat Arabs.

People don't realise what level of anti Palestine sentiment is being stirred up and allowed to influence the forces on the ground. The Israeli media and leadership are in effect encouraging the IDF to commit war crimes. Even pop songs...

There are whistle blowers trying to raise concerns but they are deemed enemies of the real Israelis.

As the captain pointed out there are better ways to conduct this whole exercise. The current tragedy could have been avoided by a more careful measured approach but at the moment there is a rush to destroy Gaza before the Western world wakes up.

In the UK our PM just went to Italy for a right wing get together talking about mass migration being used as a weapon to overwhelm Europe. 2 million folk in Gaza will be looking for homes....

Perhaps he should be putting pressure on getting Israel to move slowly and more accurately against Hamas rather than razing Gaza to the ground.

  4. Hmmm

Analysis as of the 29th Nov - Look at the pretty graphic just scroll down a bit...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67565872

As of the 12th Dec estimated at nearly 20%

    https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/nearly-fifth-gazas-buildings-destroyed-or-damaged-un-estimate-2023-12-12/

Why don't you actually do some fact checking before posting...

The Capt really sums it up well....

They are looking worse than Russia right now with respect to indiscriminate strikes...and that was one helluva low bar to get under.

BTW - I have personal bets on If War Crimes have been committed? If anyone will be held to account? Also on how many buildings Israel rebuilds for the folk of Gaza?

Shoulda been here after 9/11…now that was intense

Hmmm I wonder if mistakes were made after that where folk used the incident for their own political ends which then had / continue to have impacts today.

Pity we don't learn from our past.

BTW I predict further forced migration to Europe, the Russian playbook being used by others...

    Maybe some folk do learn?

Anyway thanks @The_Capt for trying to explain that there is another way of doing things which would be legal and still deal with the scum of Hamas.

Israel has taken the gloves off and this looks more like a ghetto cleaning everyday.  As I said wars come in arguably 5 basic strategies: intimidation, subversion, annihilation, exhaustion and extermination.  That last one is a blast from the past - Genghis type stuff.  Without being inside the IDF command loop and seeing what the plan actually is, it is very hard to make a full determination.  But the results do point to an ethnic cleaning or at least give rise to it being a possibility.  Next question will be whether it was deliberate or simply was self-defence that “got out of hand”?

I have been following this elsewhere and I did some digging today for some stats..

The number of attacks made by the IDF between October the 7th to November the 1st is reported at 12,000 individual targets.

That’s 24 days to unleash the equivalent of 25,000 tonnes

    Quote

“According to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel has dropped more than 25,000 tonnes of explosives on the Gaza Strip since October 7,”

    Or 500 targets a day…

Or slightly over 20 an hour

So now think about the ISR (Intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance) required to plan and carefully select each of those targets and the logistics behind the scenes to agree it is a valid target and provide notification (if done) to those living at the intended target area.

I have been concerned all along that there is no way in hell that with such a bombing campaign that it is being done in a careful manner that those supporting the IDF say it is done. I.e. We alert targets, we only hit valid military targets etc.…

The proof is in the sheer number of civilian deaths and the sheer wanton destruction of the whole of Gaza.

The IDF has pretty good ISR after all the area is slightly smaller than the size of the Isle of White but with a population density of roughly 21,000 people per square mile and an overall population of nearly 2 million people. Those people have no other place to go and the IDF control all the borders and sea and even in effect controls the crossing with Egypt as they have the right to stop it from opening and monitor everything using it.

Yet I seriously question that any military has enough ISR to accurately select and initiate attacks 20 every hour.

So the following gives an idea of how it is being managed back at the IDF HQ

Some investigative work by Israeli citizens who are appalled at what is going on we are now getting an insight to what is really happening…

We are now finding out that to undertake such a feat the IDF are using AI and the parameters are not great…

Owen Jones is doing a good job of exposing this and he interviews an Israeli investigative journalist who has been working with IDF whistle blowers.

    https://youtu.be/mIbxF7GXfHs?si=IDXi5eQpEMpyP8y7

The more detailed article he is talking about and published, worth reading in full I think to understand the AI generation of targets.

    https://www.972mag.com/mass-assassination-factory-israel-calculated-bombing-gaza/

Some of the key points if you don’t want to watch the interview or read the article written by an Israeli citizen.

    Quote

“has seen the army significantly expand its bombing of targets that are not distinctly military in nature. These include private residences as well as public buildings, infrastructure, and high-rise blocks, which sources say the army defines as “power targets” (“matarot otzem”).

The bombing of power targets, according to intelligence sources who had first-hand experience with its application in Gaza in the past, is mainly intended to harm Palestinian civil society: to “create a shock” that, among other things, will reverberate powerfully and “lead civilians to put pressure on Hamas,” as one source put it.

    Quote

Several of the sources, who spoke to +972 and Local Call on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the Israeli army has files on the vast majority of potential targets in Gaza — including homes — which stipulate the number of civilians who are likely to be killed in an attack on a particular target. This number is calculated and known in advance to the army’s intelligence units, who also know shortly before carrying out an attack roughly how many civilians are certain to be killed.”

    Quote

“Another source said that a senior intelligence officer told his officers after October 7 that the goal was to “kill as many Hamas operatives as possible,” for which the criteria around harming Palestinian civilians were significantly relaxed. As such, there are “cases in which we shell based on a wide cellular pinpointing of where the target is, killing civilians. This is often done to save time, instead of doing a little more work to get a more accurate pinpointing,” said the source.”

    Quote

“All of this is happening contrary to the protocol used by the IDF in the past,” a source explained. “There is a feeling that senior officials in the army are aware of their failure on October 7, and are busy with the question of how to provide the Israeli public with an image [of victory] that will salvage their reputation.”

There are 4 categories of target the first two are absolutely right and valid targets IMO. and the last two are IMO not valid targets and being used to collectively punish Gaza.

    Quote

The first is “tactical targets,” which include standard military targets such as armed militant cells, weapon warehouses, rocket launchers, anti-tank missile launchers, launch pits, mortar bombs, military headquarters, observation posts, and so on.

The second is “underground targets” — mainly tunnels that Hamas has dug under Gaza’s neighborhoods, including under civilian homes. Aerial strikes on these targets could lead to the collapse of the homes above or near the tunnels.

The third is “power targets,” which includes high-rises and residential towers in the heart of cities, and public buildings such as universities, banks, and government offices. The idea behind hitting such targets, say three intelligence sources who were involved in planning or conducting strikes on power targets in the past, is that a deliberate attack on Palestinian society will exert “civil pressure” on Hamas.

The final category consists of “family homes” or “operatives’ homes.” The stated purpose of these attacks is to destroy private residences in order to assassinate a single resident suspected of being a Hamas or Islamic Jihad operative.

    Quote

“In the early stages of the current war, the Israeli army appears to have given particular attention to the third and fourth categories of targets. According to statements on Oct. 11 by the IDF Spokesperson, during the first five days of fighting, half of the targets bombed — 1,329 out of a total 2,687 — were deemed power targets.”

So these targets to be valid for the IDF could just be a junior member of Hamas living in the tower block, they might give an order to evacuate the tower block then they level it. For all the other families living in the Tower block it is Hamas fault because they had an apartment there. For people who could not flee as there is nowhere safe to go they end up dead and I would say that is not a valid target because it is more about collective punishment.

If Russia targetted a tower accomedation block because 1 member of the Ukraine military lived in it, would we be happy with that?

    Or a war crime....

Snitching, or reporting neighbours, colleagues and even strangers to the authorities, was common in Russia's Soviet era. Now, as the government cracks down on critics of the Ukraine war, people with personal grudges and political ideals are denouncing others once again.

Pretty sad and adds weight to how the good get taken down by a nasty minority backed up by institutions that have been subverted.

The parallels with Nazi Germany and other dictatorships is clear.

Russians will keep dying in Ukraine...

either something is wrong or a lot of surrendering going on

    Why?

It is pretty easy to see why folk are getting 1600 or even 2000. 2000 requires your opponent to attack / defend poorly and not damage enough of your forces to deny you the 400 points for force preservation.

This all relates to CMBN games as I am not in the CW or RT sections.

I assume he felt that both positions were untenable.

Pity he didn't really understand the scoring as you can burn through virtually all of the American forces and still get 1600 points.

Obviously it does depend on breaking the Germans while burning through those forces.

All that counts is the control by touching those 2 VP locations and that could be with rallied American tank crews.

In both my games Barkmanns tank died on the very last turn of the game.

This match is turning into a real oof from me on both rounds, between my panther refusing to spot anything and being one shot and the LOS on my shrecks its looking like a very poor outcome less than 10 turns in.

The Germans are pretty tough to play and I bet not many will get any points with them. In hindsight I have some better approaches they could take but too late for me and I am keeping stum on what I would do differently.

Was exciting to play with my opponent who really knocked out the turns...

  11. Well add to the list that infantry by side of hedge didn't see a sherman pass by in the open 20 meters away...

Or a Shreck team set back from the bocage where a Sherman drove up the other side and saw the team 1st and blew it away...

Or a Squad of German infantry had a Sherman drive 10 meters away and decide that grenades would be pointless and then they got spotted and blown away by the same Sherman that then rocked up to the bocage. It stayed at bocage a few seconds blasting at my squad before it noticed the shreck team the other side of the bocage, all the while the shreck team was smoking dope...

Such is CM and I had forgotten all the $hit happens stuff after 10 years it is all flooding back...

    The joys of CM

    I hope they do.

Your testing shows something is different with that section of bocage and my hat off to you for actually backing up your comments with actual research.

If they need more Beta Testers I suggest you sign up...

I just watched another video of my game with Barkmann and I have seen several times the cycle of firing (don't actually fire) aim and Firing (don't actually fire) issue which is another bug bear.

There is nothing else on the market that beats it, but the frustration when you see these niggles are deeply annoying...

    The joys of CM.

  13. Hi it seems likely that the main gun crew member can not see the target and he is the one that fires.

It is a pain when it happens (trees and branches usually) and a feature of the engine that every crew member is modelled and sights.

So if the main gunner can't see then no bang bangs...

I have had two Shermans drive too fast for my gunner to let loose through a gap I was covering...

    Such is life....

I seem to remember a long while back we had a crew member sat facing the rear in one tank and it took a while to sort that one out. Lots of moving parts in the game...

I haven't forgotten you folks today. I've been working on getting easy to understand and explain descriptions of exactly what was done. The time zone difference didn't help with the back and forth conversations. As soon as get somefink worth passing on I will. It's a priority for me.

    Hi,

Just to add to your thought process those who get adjusted scores because the game did not get completed I think should get the same scores as those who had a no show.

They do the same in FOG2 unless the game is nearly completed, but as they can track points more easily in FOG2 that makes sense.

For CM it is all about the end position and I think it is fairer to folk that they get the same as the no shows...

    Just my 2p....

Not that it will help me as after I guess a 10 year layoff of playing any CM game I am getting my arse handed to me in Barkmans corner...

My oppo has been excellent at sending turns and we have around 12 mins left....

    Soo much to re learn....
