  1. NOW you tell me? i been playing cmbo for a year or two and cmbb for months on a 600mhz 128 sdram comp 32mb tnt2 comfortably and now i am told there might be a problem? what kind of setup is this at the highest setting: extreme trees, extreme doodads, my system gets slow in scrolling but that's about it.
  2. yeah i hate the "my weapon's spread is two tiles, but i'll miss at 10 meters by three tiles" behavior that make flamers useless...
  3. HA, byatches! i have the fewest downloaded of anyone! in yo' face all! btw ColumbusOHGamer, i added a very small bmp zipped up called "abandon tank" but it isn't there anymore. is there a minimum size limit? [ November 02, 2002, 04:23 PM: Message edited by: russellmz ]
  4. In fact it's TOO large, judging by the effect of Area Fire on an inhabited foxhole, to supress the unit *in* the foxhole. Area Fire "targetted" at a foxhole allows the unit in that foxhole to fire more easily than targetting that unit directly. I've complained about the irony of area fire more than once- it fails to do just exactly what it is meant to do- suppress the enemy. And that happens every single game. LordFluffer's idea makes perfect sense and seems like a perfect solution to me . Consider the sequence: 1) Enemy AT Gun in foxhole is firing 2) You fire at him 3) AT Gun "disappears" 4) You target the foxhole with Area Fire 5) AT Gun "reappears" 6) Your unit *continues* with Area Fire on the foxhole, rather than electing to directly target the unit, and the enemy remains unsupressed. I don't know about you, but #6 doesn't float my boat. LordFluffer's idea seems to me a natural way to provide Area Fire over some certain arc, in a way compatible with the idea that an appearing enemy should be targetted directly should it be within that Arc. NOT true. They *may* be targetted- the stated effect of an Arc is to *prohibit* fire outside the Arc. The manual does NOT state that giving an arc will make the unit *more likely* to open fire on an enemy appearing within range. Possibly they do, but for myself I've found them to be just as trigger happy without one. The unit's notion of what consitutes a worthwhile target seems independent of the existence of an arc, IME. Getting back to LF's idea, a few Arcs would be neat: 1) Open Fire on anything appearing in this Arc, regardless of how dismal the chances of inflicting true damage are. 2) Add to #1 suppressive fire over the space of the arc, even when no enemy units are visible, (but they were seen previously). 3) Add to #2, suppressive fire over the space of the arc, even when no enemy units are known to have existed. 5. if you got windows, open ms paint and hit ctrl-e. make a 1280x1024 screen. now open another mspaint and open the splash screen you want. hit ctrl-a, then ctrl-c to copy. go to the first ms paint with the big screen. paste. it is now not stretched out. fill in the background so it matches the color (most of the ones i have seen are black, so a simple Fill command will do it) save as 11002.bmp i think that will work but since your screen is non 4:3 i am not sure.
  6. edit: hmmm i missed the part about the only movement orders... [ October 30, 2002, 01:12 PM: Message edited by: russellmz ]
  7. hmmmm, what would you call a country that considered the T-26 a heavy tank?
  8. no idea if it is hi-res but it looks cool. i think the same guy did one for cmbb cause they got the same coloring. http://www.combatmission.com/mods/germansupport.asp

  10. doesn't this give a huge advantage to the axis, knowing exactly the moves the allied player will make, pictures and maps and timeline included ?
  11. brilliant. that's thinking outside the box. not only that, but it gives me an idea too: leave some tree bmps as transparent. that way i can have swaying trees on tree level 2(shift-t twice) but have only as many trees as level 1...
  12. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8&saf e=active&as_qdr=all&q=flag+reichstag ...but most of them are either too small or website is down the bmp is 11002.bmp (for the 1024px screen at least) just use ms paint or something to copy the image and move, crop, and resize it to the proper place. 15. so if the reviewer is reading, to sum up: the ai doesn't cheat. the movement orders are done by you, then by the computer, BUT the action phase is done at the same time after both sets of orders are given. the way you wrote in the review it sounds like: I give orders, my gun shoots the computer tank, the computer has a turn to give orders, but it can't give orders to the tank because it died. what actually happens is: i give orders to the gun to shoot, the computer gives orders to the tank to shoot, then the action phase sees who hits first. effects: gun muzzle flash. tanks blowing up (most kills are non dramatic, but smaller vehicles have a greater tendency to blow up or burn). hits and riccochets on tanks make sparks. as mentioned above his video card is most likely down sampling the bmps.
  16. ???? the original screen was russians hiding behind a wall about to ambush some germans. did you download the globe splash screen, accidently unzip into the cmbo directory and forget to correct it?
  17. Hi there. The last Battles were actually fougth by foreigners. They could not go home, while most Germans tried to put on their civilian clothes and get home somehow - many were hanged for corwardness in the last days. In Berlin itself, a lot of Beligium people (SS Wallonie) had the questionable honor of defending the center... They did not dared to go home with a SS tatoo. Actually, a lot of guys like that get killed by their own people without a trial...</font>
  18. i prefer the propaganda screen, for obvious reasons
