  1. Since June 19th I have played no other game but CM. At least 1 game of CM every night. But yes, last night I was tempted, and yes I was weak. I played another game.......and it was good......I feel so cheap, like I've betrayed my country. Where was the Borg to strenghten me! Why was I forshaken? To redeem myself and cleanse my soul I knew I had to suffer a humiliating defeat to humble myself before the CM AI god. So I played the most demeaning CM game I could think of: QB 5000 points, I was the Allies restricted to low quality mechanized against high quality SS armor on a large map, absolutely flat, no trees and rural. Meeting engagement. Automatic select for me and I picked only heavy armour for the Germans What a continual nightmare of brewing up halftracks and thin skinned AC's!! It was awful but was it bad enough to absolve my horrible sin? Where art thou Borg
  2. Hey guys If you are out or on the Arabian (Persian) Gulf and are tied of that 11 hour difference to the States. Give me a email for same time email QB's! Wayne100@emirates.net.ae
  3. Since we are talking indirect. The Germans also used indirect machine gun fire which was invented by them in WWI (actually it was used in the Russo-Japanese war also). Nothing like a HMG strafe
  4. Sounds good but I wasn't sure on one technical point, will the option to be optional be optional?
  5. I'd agree with the suggestion that their be a free form and an historical form I'd also suggest for QB that if you selected automatically. The computer would pick your equipment then display it for you. You would then have the opinion of keeping the computer selection or rejecting some units, receiving a lesser number of points for it. If you decided you didn't want a Stug at 88 you could turn it in and buy something else for, say 75 points, ie there would be a penalty for changing. Additionally "Sell" vehicles like the infantry, by platoon and section and let the rarity function pick what you get. ie you select a platoon of infantry, an AT gun section and a platoon of tanks. The computer lets you know what you get and as above you have the right of refusal (and buying something else) with lesser points. Another idea. Place a list of all the units out for the mass committee of this board to vote on its "value". Some units are a good "package" while others are not. It might be of value to see how the grognards rate the various units and vehicles. By the way don't forget those German & Russian transport horses in CM2! Hans
  6. 46 and married for one year and one in the oven. Retired FA, now a computer and business teacher. Gamer since Avalon Hill Africa Korp and the LIFE magazine pictures of the 67 war! Living in the Gulf, wife thinks CM is "nice" CM is the best to come along spread it to friends.
  7. Medics would be an interesting addition but would they add to game play, probably not. One thing that is not model correctly in this great game is the buddy system. When a man was wounded one or more buddies would take him to the rear. So for every wounded man 1 or more buddies were taken out of the fight. This was studied by SLA Marshal and was a point in limiting the attacking (and defending ability) of US and other allied units. I would presume the case was the same in Axis units?
  8. I wouldn't consider going into a PBEM without a veteran, nay, even an elite truck on my side. When the situation gets tight and the lead is flying a man able to change gears or a tire in a pinch is often the straw that breaks the enemies morale. Trucks.....the secret of victory
  9. In one of those wild bursts of enthusiasm I created a random Quick Battle generator that does away with the need to think of new challenges. Having made this Excel thingy I realized that one of dedicated souls on this board may have built one themselves If so where is the beast so that I may compare?
  10. Answering the question The FO sends back a request for fire or what is commonly known as a call for fire. Requests a type of mission (adjust, fire for effect, etc)and the location He describes the target (four trucks and 50 men in a tree line) Requests a method of engagement (VT in effect) The Fire direction officer or NCO at the fire direction center issues a fire order (3 rounds TI) (3 rounds HE with TI fuse from each tube) The FO requests and FDC grants, this can be overridden by the FA chain of command or in certain situation by the superior maneuver commander. The FO can always call for a repeat or restart the mission or more rarely after hearing the effects on the target the FDO can order additional fire.
  11. Question: the price for these is 123 for the Canuk vs 144 American Is that a minor oops or is there a reason?
  12. Hey and I didn't even mention the Army Group size TOT Time on Target with 15 Battalions of 8" hiting my forces followed by three archangels with burning swords That wasn't too bad but when Godzilla showed up and ate my Kubelwagen I just shut the PC off I think Charles evil twin brother, Murray programs that stuff in
  13. Well folks I've seen the messages here by the hysterical people who claim the AI is cheating and to be honest I didn't believe them....until now Anyway here is proof positive & undeniable! Situation: Normal little QB with lots of points and the Germans are attacking. The Germans have swept up and taken the main objective with arty and inf. Shermans roll in for the counter attack and are taken out by my gallent Pz IV, four sherms lay burning amongst the fleeing American infantry when.. My Pz start shooting at the sky, OH NO I think fighter bombers, the dreaded Jabos striking late in the battle. But NO A giant hand with extended thumb comes down and squashes my heroic IV, rotates, gives me the finger and heads skywards while an evil laugh is heard. NOW thats cheatin'!!
  14. Well I won't comment on the MET messages, those things were always a curse to calculate manually! Comment on artillery Apon the death of the FO, theory wise another FO should be able to go up to that freguency and continue missions. As stated earlier each mission would continue after the Fire direction officer had issued his fire order. An Infantry Platoon, Company or other commander would also have access to these radio frequencies and last but not least the Maneuver battalion would be monitoring the company and lower radio nets and could forward calls for fire to the appropriate close or reinforcing support indirect system. especially its own internal 81mm and 4.2 Best way to handle it in CM. When a FO dies his mission would carry on for a random amount of time and then other FOs and Commanders would still be able to use those shells but at a greater time frame (for an FO whose time was 3 minutes would go to 5-7 minutes for the outsiders)plus a random amount of chance that no contact could be made. Hans Former FO A Btry 1/2 FA
  15. Now that is customer service Well done and I have bought a second disk for a friend. Spread the word!
  16. It was July 5th of this year and my Brother showed me "a great game". As a lover of Close Combat I instantly saw that CM was superior (and have given my CC disks away). I also knew I would like it when I noted Charles name as I had built scenarios for his Flight Commander II game and knew his "style" I haven't been disappointed PS Hey REDLEG you 13B or A?
  17. Hi Jeff point of correction,. PD fuses on those 155 they went off in 12 inches of snow. A Ti round/VT would probably have gotten the observers. Oh yeah during a reforger a Mercedes rammed a M60 head on going 80 kmph caused it to loose a track................, how much for a kamikaze volkswagen? 6 points?
  18. Yep a 5000 point on a large map can be impressive especially if you a few weeks! That is a tweak that is needed I'd also like smaller amounts 100 or 200 points or best yet put in any number!
  19. Interesting discussion I'd say the crew would do one of three things 1. Stay near the vehicle to recover crew/gear and shelter behind it, especially if taking small arms fire. 2. Head away from the fire/towards the rally point start line of the operation. 3. Panic and a Head almost anywhere b Break up and head almost anywhere doing of the the three above. Another point is the experience of crew, especially the surviving the leader. Of course it would be a pain to actually model this! As for getting non graduate students to respond. I usually bribe one aggressive student in the class to hit the slow ones.
  20. If I might add to this discussion In December 82 I had the misfortune to be part of a training accident at Ft Riley Kansas. MY FO's were located on a hill in M113 directing rounds when four 155mm PD shells hit the OP. 2 M113's 60-100 meters away were nicked but functional, my M113 at 50 meters away from the nearest burst lost 2 of four antennas and took a few sharpnel hits The fourth M113 was 13 and 17 meters from hits and was straddled. It lost all antennas and the shock knocked out the engine, radios DMD's and Laser Range finders. The vehicle's tracks were fine. Hope that helps The crew besides being knocked silly was fine and probably could have functioned normally after a minute or so (shocked)
  21. Well to add to the list Commissioned in the Infantry in 77 Joined the Field Artillery in 79 FO (A Btry 1-2 FA Baumholder Germany) FIST for 1/39 Infantry S-2 & S-4 BN FSO and Brigade FSO 1st Brigade 1st Infantry Division (NTC overkill) Svc Btry commander 1-5 FA Reserve advisor to NY NG & Reserve 1163 Reserve school (13f) 77th Arcom mobilization Retired 97
  22. Note I think another type of move a "Recce" In the Move mode your vehicle or unit primary task is to get to where ever you have clicked on In Hunt it is moving and searching for targets In a "Recce" it would be moving to a point but immediately breaking contact on seeing an enemy unit or being fired at. I find my units sent forward on Recon using the move command get into gunfights Hans
  23. Thanks And good point I have NEVER had a CM game crash! Slow but good eh, plus with the infinite map generator all is gute!
  24. Great game and I'm glad to see there are fanatics already assembled. Got the game a few weeks ago, played day night for six days then I had to go on vacation! Drat no computer access for three weeks but fortunately my vacation was in Belgium and Northern France (nice Hetzer sitting outside the museum in Bastogne). Was able to see a lot of the terrain Enjoyed seeing terrain that looked like the what the auto map maker produces- which is one of the great strenghts of game. I realize this has probably been discussed already but could some one give me a link or a short message on: When Cm2 will be out and whether a 1939-40 (early war)verison is planned? Is a North African/Italy version planned? Thanks! Let the CM borg take me!
