Guy on the Left: *thinking to himself*"I wish there was an empty seat between us, sitting so close together is kinda gay... Guy on the Right: *thinking to himself*: "I wish I went to sniper school and had Klavdia Kalugina as my instructor. She is like totally hot..." Guy in the back: *thinking to himself* "Its pretty cold out here, I wish I had some vaseline for my face..." -
Why Weren't Chemical Weapons Used in WWII?
The Commissar replied to Hamstersss's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Hmm...maybe Hitler was at least a decent enough guy to watch out for his own people. I bet Stalin would have just loved to be given such an excuse to ship the German population to Siberia. -
Wow, Im suprised that CMBB got such a good review not just from IGN, but from Steve Butts! He usually reviews click-fest/shootemup fare, as far as I recall. Impressive indeed! Big ups to BTS, as always!

No "Chew on this pineapple, Fritz!" in CMBB
The Commissar replied to BloodyBucket's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
CMBO insult lines were cheesy (pineapples? WTF?!). CMBB on the other hand reminds me of day to day exchanges between my brother and I, lol. East front is where it is at. The greatest battles, the most amazing machinery, the greatest sacrifices. -

Russian for travelers
The Commissar replied to Andrew H.'s topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Youve got the spelling wrong. He is saying "Da ne streliyai tie!" "ne strelieye tie" literlaly translates to "don't shoot, you" "da" is added to emphasise frustration on the part of the speaker. -
Jon Thats besides the point whether I canceled or not. I actually let it go through because I couldnt believe my eyes (still won that particular battle with a major vic, btw). A spotter is meant to spot. This guy was either asleep on his post or drunk off of captured Russian vodka. If you as a spotter saw a bunch of rounds you ordered to fall over yonder hill drop in your lap, would you sit there and wait until your higher ups told you to add a few meters to your faulty coordinates?
-
What, THAT off target? I find it unrealistic that the spotter did not at least HALT the barrage when he saw the round landing RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. I dont know about you, but if I called in rounds on my own position I would think something must not have been right and called over to inform the higher ups to "add a few hundred friggin' meters!"

For your attention, I present the following. The highlighted unit is my 81mm spotter. As you can see, he is ordered to fire on the group of Soviets in the distance. Notice to the left of the spotter, the series of shell holes and an explosion. That is where the barrage is landing, NEXT to the spotter! Ive never seen this before, but hopefully BTS will take note.

My grandfather from my father's side served through the last bits of '44 and through '45. Stormed Berlin. I keep meaning to ask him which division, army, etc. he was in but I dont get to talk to him nearly as much as Id like to.

Ive only played the demo so far, but I haven't heard any real cussing on the Russian part. Which is a tad dissapointing because I wanted a game reallistic enough to make my mother blush! When I get the game (ordered Saturday, live in Buffalo) Ill get the translations done if no one does it by that time.

4 to 5 weeks my ass!!

Buffalo is sorta like New England...right? no? crap. Placed my order Saturday, so Im waiting and hoping for a Friday delivery perhaps. -
Today I accidently discovered that doing research at college can actually be fun! While looking for articles for a World Civ report, I stumbled across a few articles by Glantz on the Soviet military I had not personally read before. http://www.jstor.org/search/cc99333c.10339433020/1-4?configsortorder=SCORE&frame=noframe&dpi=3&config=jstor AFAIK, everyone should be able to access that page, but if there are any problems let me know. Hopefully you all enjoy this as much as I did.

Once I get my CMBB Ill use the BO disk as a beer coaster. Nah, maybe Ill play a game or two once in a while, but the Western nations bore me when compared to the Soviets.

I dont think its about the timer. Many tcp/ip games have a long enough timer for both players to finish, in my experience. People who take 2 hours to plan all their moves for a 2000 point game are just slow, plain and simple. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you are slow you can't play as much. If you can't play as much, you get less experience playing. If you get less experience playing, you are worse at it then someone who can get in a dozen games while you fiddle away with just one. So yes, TCP/IP'ers are better gamers IMO.

CMBB Tank Riders: A Dangerous Ride to the Office
The Commissar replied to Terence's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Terence, Most often it is the last option you mentioned. "Tanko Desantniki" usually hopped off the tank and were expected to run alongside and in front of it as soon as firing started. I took the liberty of doing a little google searching and came across several interesting websites. Here is an interview with one Evgeni Bessenov, who describes the tankodesantniki role as "Now tanks advanced carefully, following tankodesantniki infantry, while our task was to destroy German Panzerfaust teams with small arms or indicate Fritz targets to the tanks, so that they could destroy them with main guns."
