1. Well, in my case, one of my tanks was stopped (immobile) after the wire had been cleared because the wire/mine clearing satchel had left a rather large crater and they got stuck in it. Fortunately, he was one of the last to cross and still had a working gun and turret. Of course, their unhappiness increased with each barrage.
2. Yes, but I lost about half of my split team of engineers on the first wire obstacle upon detonation. They apparently didn't take the additional explosives into consideration (nor had they found the mines prior). I believe this also happened on the second wire obstacle, midfield, even after the mines had been marked. Are explosives the only method for removing the wire? I'm not sure what I could have done differently.
3. Understood. Not that I save that often myself, I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
4. Oh wow, beautiful shots! Thanks for putting your time into these, and while I'm at it, thanks for your efforts in Sie Kommen! Once I play it, I'll bring some feedback.
5. Any chance you have a save file to share so we can all see the situation?
6. Had a ton of fun with this! The map is great, plenty of detail with some challenges. I blew through all my smoke on the crossing, so it definitely wasn't a walk in the park for me (used iron diff). Thanks, De Savage! While I had taken most everything else, the game crashed as I was just about to take the crossroads, and I hadn't saved in at least 25 minutes (too much fun) so I'd like to extend a friendly reminder to all readers to save often while playing!
7. I just wanted to relay my thanks for this hefty bit of work too. I enjoyed it very much! The "choose your path" part of the adventure was pretty darn cool. While it wasn't extremely difficult, I think that avoiding the frustration factor in a campaign is important to keep the ball rolling at this point. Well done! Also, thanks to BF for the game. It's more fun than I'd imagined.
8. Speaking of Patton, besides the bad rendition of tanks and some of the alltime worst faked deaths by both US and German infantry there's still one thing that bothered me more. The aircraft. Throughout the entire film, the same 2 (what look like HE111s- something clearly not suited for the role they were portraying) appeared time after time to strafe the US troops. I can hear the german co now.. "Achtung! Today, vi vill smash zi allied armor vis zi he111s modified for zi low-level ground attack".. sheesh.
9. Not sure if was mentioned, but the biggest problem I see with DL the game would be protecting the game from further online distribution beyond that point of sale (read piracy). OK, now that I take the time to read the WHOLE thread, it was mentioned... I understand that piracy would happen anyway; however, it would suck even worse knowing that anyone with a copy of the online dist. game could easily patch it. 10. Interest? Absolutely! Suggestions: Choke points for the attackers and a travel (time) penalty, maybe even exposure to defender artillery or pillboxes, to avoid them. Is the railroad on the defender's side? If so, maybe a light building as a station for another objective. A fiord for sneaky infantry only (for either side to use) with a covered approach (for extra sneakiness). Impassible terrain obstacles (cliffs are great!). And much, much more... 11. I haven't received my issue yet to read the comments, but just incase you don't read CGW, know that you'll very rarely (maybe once or twice a year) see 5 out of 5 come out of all game categories combined. I think that's quite an accomplishment. BTW, WTG BTS!
12. Reckall, You're not alone. I'd like to see this too. I can't look at the game at the moment so I may be wrong here, but it seems to me that even though you can specify the month within the editor, nothing about the date appears on the list of scenarios. It would be handy to quickly grab a scenario from a chronologically ordered list, or, yes, play each by their date. What about attaching a 'day' variable to the scenario date as well?
13.
quote:
Must be from the salvation of all disgruntled gamers from mediocre games and gaming companies to which there IS a game company that can make a great bug-free game. Bug-free as in no show-stopping bugs.

I'll drink to that! Not to mention a few guys that ask the question 'wouldn't it be cool if... ?' and asking the same question to the people they already know to be their audience. All without some self-proclaimed marketing genius waving his/her demographics info. about in front of genius II in accounting (Retch). This game is a great thing and I can only hope that more will hear, listen and buy. [This message has been edited by Gustang (edited 08-02-2000).]
14. Heh, yeah I noticed... Thanks for taking the time to reply, Pete. BTW, I went through Gafenwohr last night and found the exercise in troop movement over (and behind) various terrain rather useful. That's the whole idea behind my original question- learning how my troops perform and identifying their strengths/weaknesses despite textbook (whatshouldbe). I'm new to this type of wargame, yes, but not new to squad tactics. I don't have any prior experience w/ armor like in this one. I find I have to adjust to the fact I don't have direct control over the men (THROW A GRENADE DAMMIT! ). I'll take your advice and continue using QB, or even create some setups of my own w/ the editor, saving the bulk of scenarios for multiplay later. Thanks again, Gus
