  1. Im in the same boat, lawyer.. I have been playing CM solidly for about 1.5 years. Ive had stints with other games but i always end up getting tired of them and going back to CM. Lets not talk about Counterstrike... ooooooh lord! wish i could forget about that one. Im upgrading my system and plan on heading straight for the computer store to get stormovihk.. i can see loosing alot of sleep over that one. I just saw the re-release of PE today at the comp store and was real tempted in getting it.. Then i remembered how many times i came close to putting my fist through the monitor after i got the first one. I played it for about a month and just lost interest and almost lost my sanity. I really WANTED to like PE but the gunnery was just intolerable.. a good example was this: my tank would be motionless, as would the targets.. Id fire.. the round would fall short.. Id compensate, fire again, still a little short.. then id creep the crosshairs up a little higher and fire again, way over! then id creep the sights down a bit.. way short... this happened so many times, i just could not get any consistancy in taking out targets.. i know its suppose to be realistic.. but if tank crews of ww2 faced these weird-ass dynamics and odds, then they wouldnt have lasted a week. So if i find that the gunnery is still unchanged, ill probably opt to not get the re-release... just my 2 cents... btw: let me know how stormovihk is.. Zaf
  2. uhhhh.... going back a bit.. i meant shots from 200 meters or less.. not '2 meters'.. that would be plain silly... Zaf
  3. How would you guys rate Panzer Elite (re-release) overall. I remember getting it right when it came out and being thoroughly frusterating. Even sitting still the gunnery was impossible. I recall point blank shots of 2 meters or less totally missing the targets. Eventually I gave up and lost the cd. Now my curiosity is peaked again with all the new drivable vehicles and mods done to the game. So it any better now since its original release? is the gunnery ANY easier to operate?? Zaf
  4. Hey dudes... just thought everyone might be interested in this schtuff.. me n some friends went to fort knox in louiville, KY to see a live reiactment complete with tanks, authentic infantry uniforms and guns! It was really amazing. It was suppose to depict action in germany near the end of the war and involved an american recon group cresting a hill and infiltrating a german at position. They had a hetzer and a jgdpanzer IV out along with a full scale psw that this dude build from scratch! of course there was a kubel and 2 at guns.. camo and everything!! they started off with 2 stuarts comin up and then down the hill at full speed.. pretty cool site to see.. of course, i didnt have my camera! ;-( then one recived a hit and white smoke started pouring out of it.. pretty neat.. by this time the american troops began a close combat shootout with a bunch of ss guys tightly packed in a gully. the tactics of course didnt seem super real.. but ill be damned if the actors themselves didnt look like the real thing. They had an mg 34 a few 30 cals and like 1 50 cal.. the sounds were very 'poppy'.. typical blanks, i guess.. but i remember a few guys with mp 40s that sounded too real.. real cool ****. They even had medics comin to the aid of the fallen guys... though at the close quarters it was at.. they would have been falling a lot faster.. it was all still neat to see nonetheless.. ive never seen any reinactment before... i think they do this thing at ft knox every 4th of july. Anybody do anything similar on their 4th or recently this summer? id be interested in finding out about the variety of ww2 reinactment groups out there.. i never thought there were that many.. funny thing was i was talkin to one or 2 of the guys after it was all over and almost went into the 'HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED COMBAT MISSION, MAN!! ITS SOO COOL!!' speal.. but i hesitated and calmed down.. If anyone is familiar with this, share... Id love to hear about what else is out there... 5. I have never been quite able to figure this out and i have never seen it displayed or even addressed until recently (magua's normandy mod), but i am wanting to change the tiles for the outside game space. You have your map which sits over what seems to resemble a stretched out series of grass tiles. What number in the bmp folder are these files? Not until Magua came out with his normandy conversion did i ever see the color of these tiles change. I didnt even think you were able to modify this. It makes such a difference to the overall look of the game. Any info you guys have would be appreciated.. thanks alotta, Zaff'
  6. Hey!! I got an idea, guys!!!! Why not skip ahead to the next topic if the thread doesn't fit your humor?! THAT WAY, if anyone wishes to read/post on goofy threads (even peng threads).. they are free to do so.. thats it! sounds simple, huh? Zaff
  7. ok.. quick question. How did one fire the british infantry AT weapon (similar to the zooka)? and what the bloody 'ell was it called again? I read a description of it and from what it sounded, you sat down and aimed up and it just sorta 'sprung' out. Ive never gotten these bleedin things to work in the game... however one took out my tiger in the villars bocage scenerio... kinda miffed me seeing as how rotten the results i get with it... Zaff'
  8. they put a curfew on for the whole f'in weekend it looks like. This city is so backwards in its decisions, i tell you. Never move here if your thinking of settling down in the midwest! We just spent 10 mil + on a stadium that can only be used 11 days a year for a football team thats worthless. In addition, i dont think ive seen another city w/ so much racial tension and such a racist police force. This place has been a powder keg waiting to blow for a long time. Lord, o Lord, get me out of this maze! Zaff'

  10. I have inquired about this too, guys... but as we can see, there doesn't seem to be too much fret over the obvious lack of scenerios. I have quit going to CMHQ altogether. There ARE some very good scnerios at the Kessel and Combat Missions.. along with some good mods n stuff. But they are by no means 'depots'. Most of the scenerios youll find there are carefully worked over and quite challenging.. but there isnt the slew of missions like there was at the depot. So my next question is: if TGN has the scnerios, wouldnt they post them back up to the public?? Maybe this is the case and its only a matter of a few more months before the amazing amount of changes need be made. To sum it up: whats goin on aint gellin' and if it aint gellin', it aint jello. Time to get us some BTS VIP passes to find out whats goin on behind the scenes... Zaff'
  11. So now that CMHQ doesnt have any scnerios and the ASL site is vanquished.. what is the future or CM scnerios???!!! Where does everyone go for all the once-plentiful juicy scenerios?? Zaff
  12. Just to add to that thread back there.. I think partisian combat should definately included in the game. If anyone has read the boko Forgotten Soldier one will quickly realize how commonplace partisian-flushing out missions were. I belive the main character was in the GrossDeutschland division which saw a good amount of action on the east front. The battles in CM2 would probably involve units no bigger than company size.. Scenerios where a group of partisians are to demolish certain landmarks regaurdless of risk, or rescue missions where a german company may be under intense fire and need properly inserted backup would be super cool. I dont think it would be too far out of the way to include 'partisians' in a CM programming code sense.. All they need be is down-scaled russian squads that may move a little slower, have random numbers of men, and have a greater chance of being fanatic. Some squads may be elite as well.. but the key is to keep them in small groups. Partisian warfare would provide a whole new NEW perspective than the regular 'place your troops', 'plan your strategy' and 'attack the enemy army'. BTW, is there a site or place to go to find out updates on the development of CM2? thanks, Zaff'
  13. I just got done with Steel Inferno and was qite impressed. It isnt written in the most dramatic-heat-of-the-action style, it is definately strategy-based... but it is very specific about proven and unproven facts. His is deffinately in the view of an officer. Its very hard to write a book with a neutral point of view actually.. the acedemic will always seem acedemic, the military man will always be analytical.. i.e. if youve ever read Von Manstien's book 'lost victories' you will DEFINATELY get a feel for how a general writes! Not much in the way of a human perspective to say the least. But surprisingly, Reynolds does not go out to favor how the Allies (british primarily) overcame this and that, in fact his bias is really for the germans and how they were able to exploit the errors the allies made. He can make it seem like the germans won the day after a major british operation by telling you the casualties they inflicted, what they went through (level bombing attacks, etc), everything to make it seem like they suffered through fire and brimstone and will often completle leave out THEIR casualty figures and the long term effects it had on them. For instance there is VERY little detail or description about the field day allied troops had on retreating german columns in the Falais gap. In the end he proves a good point of how the germans were able to MAINTAIN the front for so long because of their remarkable leadership (experience was a key here), and in this he seems very credible. He ends the book very appropriately by really explaing why so many find the german POV so interesting.. The odds they were against, what they endured, what equipment they had and how it took a war on 3 fronts to finally bring them to surrender. I guess it kind of makes it seem like a big epic struggle, and w/ that in mind, it WAS! Just be ready to follow a bunch of half-assed maps if you want to really follow the strategic end of this book.. i reccomend it to anyone interested in normandy. BTW, Michael D., did you post on a Saving Provate Ryan forum a few years back? I know i know your name and i cant think of where. Love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this stuff.. cya ya'll Zaff'
  14. I must say I agree w/ you on the small explosion sounds.. Ive tried a variety of different sounds from different mods and the best one i have is more of a 'POP' than a boom.. the one from the first maddog mod pack sounds too glass-shattering (just about every other effect in the pack is top notch though). Same w/ smoke rounds hitting ground.. more of a "THUD" should sound indstead of a BANG CRACKLE! (I feel like im in an old batman episode - BOFF!!!! BLOING!!!! BLAMMOE!) Sound FX put aside I feel the BEST ENHANCEMENT that could be made for CM2 is one thing!! (aside from individual soldiers being modeled of course) muzzle flashes!!!!! Think about how much more dramatic that would be in the playbacks! Im sure its been discussed before, but Im interested if any of ya'll have heard whether or not they will attempt this in CM2. Doesn seem like it would be too difficult to do at all! Whutchya all think?? Zaff'
  15. I was sitting at work in Portland, just got done taking an unofficial break reading the forums! In fact, Im taking one of those right now!!! And all of a sudden all hell breaks loose.. Light fixtures going to and fro! Hanging ceilings ominously swaying heavily! Being my first earthquake (im here on an internship) i almost paniced!! but 45 seconds later it was all done.. went to the bathroom to see about the mess i made in the pants though... Overall.. id say it was fun! im ready for a few aftershocks! BTW, they bumped it up to 7.0 on the scale.. - media shock value, im sure Zaff'
