Lol..as you can see by my join date, been a lurker myself since CMBO/CMBB. However, some forum comments just seem to draw me into a reply.

1870 Franco-Prussian War AAR
OLDSPEC4 replied to Bill101's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
+1..one of my best game purchases in recent years. -
AoD Official AAR/Walkthrough #2!!!
OLDSPEC4 replied to abukede's topic in Strategic Command - Assault on Democracy
This AAR is making it hard to resist purchasing this expansion (plus the base game). I'm currently playing a "Storm over Europe" campaign" but would like to also expand into the other operational theaters. -
1870 Franco-Prussian War AAR
OLDSPEC4 replied to Bill101's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
True..but was trying some gentle persuasion to get it out. The 1870 Franco-Prussian war add-on looks to be an interesting campaign/era. My interest is probably increased due to a recently read military magazine article on the war. I'm actually playing a "Storm over Europe" campaign as the Germans currently and likely would have to start over w/ the patch anyway. -

1914 March on Paris AAR

Always good to see another AAR.. -
I'm into the Oct. 5, 1918 turn as the Germans against the AI. I may be reading the reports incorrectly but the Americans are shown as having 18 active land units; and I have destroyed 14 American divisions and 3 cavalry divisions to date. So at least against the AI, there seems to be a reasonable amount of American troops.

Totally agree re: the addictive nature of the game. I purchased the game on Dec. 1 and have played approx. 3-4 hours daily since. I have completed four "Call to Arms" campaigns (two each for the Central Powers and the Entente) and am now trying out the Ludendorff Offensive as Germany while following the current AAR. I have played both Guns of August and World War II Gold: and though those games are very good, this game's UI and AI hit a sweet spot for me.

Information for New Players
OLDSPEC4 replied to Bill101's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
Yep..good stuff. My forum join date corresponds to the CMBO/CMBB games that I played to burnout. Haven't squeezed the trigger on other Battlefield games since. But, this game has me hooked w/ that "one more turn" feeling. A great combination of UI and gameplay. -

Average CM Player Age...Now vs. Then
OLDSPEC4 replied to Zamo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
49. A couple of ex-wives have made me feel real old at times. But have a 35 year old significant other and CM. Life is good! -
Regular Army from 1971 to 1973. If I told ya what I did, I'd have to shoot ya. "Airborne"

I ordered on a Sunday in late June. Received CM the following Wednesday in Arizona. Not sure that my experience is the norm. I've been playing this game exclusively since. BTW, this forum has some great info. "Airborne"

If its any consolation, Been there-Done that. Now that I'm pushin' the big 50, the kids are grown and the wives(ex-wives) are gone. Now I have mucho time to play CM. Of course the hearing ain't what it used to be, the eyesight is goin', the reflexes are slower...... "AIRBORNE"

I REALLY like this game!!!
OLDSPEC4 replied to LEGEND_C4A's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Also was CIV and CIV2 junkie; and spent many hours w/ TOAW. CM is one helluva game though. The last month has been a blur! "AIRBORNE" -
Just ordered CM, cannot WAIT to try it!

quote:
Originally posted by DigDug: BTW, In your best estimation, how long will it take for me to actually recieve the game? Battlefront sent me an e-mail saying it would be shipped in "1-2 Business Days". Any truth to that, or is that just a standard reply to the reality that it's gonna take weeks? Thanks again.

Delivery times have varied. I ordered on June 25 and received CM on June 28. I live in Arizona, so game was definitely shipped w/in one business day. "AIRBORNE"
