1. I took my CD (version 1.0) to my brothers house to burn a back-up, and it went just fine. Only problem was on the way home I accidentally left the original on top of the car, and I ended up backing up over it.
2. CM2 will be about the Eastern Front in WW2. I think you might want to post your question about "jerkiness" on the tech support board, as my old computer was quite able to run the demo scenarios without jerkiness and it was a lesser machine than yours. Some of the larger scenarios in the full game caused it to get jerky, though. There are some really helpful people on the tech board. Good luck.
3. My favorite was Nijmegen which is on the CD. It's only 25 turns or so though.
4. Thanks for all the good info. You've given me plenty to think about. I definitely want something that will run CM well.
5. I'm shopping for a new computer and have been looking at an Athlon 900 but wonder if I should go with a PIII. I keep reading the term Tbird and wondered if that's a kind of AMD chip? Also, any suggestions about video cards to go in the system would be appreciated. Thanks.
6. I don't think that the problem is with the prices for these vehicles. In QB's I do tend to take too many M20's, but I think what's needed is a little bit more flexibility in the different categories for Combined Arms. I tend to play as the Americans and it's always difficult in a smaller scenario to get the right amount of support for infantry, so I usually end up getting the M20's as support weapons. I think the prices for vehicles are just fine.
7. Personally, I liked the way it was done with ASL. Each vehicle had a rarity factor and you rolled the dice for availability to determine how low a rarity factor you could choose. I wouldn't like rare units to be overpriced; just more rare.
8. I've been playing Nijmegen PBEM and it's a great battle. One side of the map has the Allies trying a river crossing and there are two bridges to try and take on the other side. It's on the CD.
9. What you're suggesting was done in ASL in a somewhat abstracted way with Experience Level Ratings. If a squad failed a morale check by more than its ELR it was replaced with the next lower squad type (i.e. Elite became Regular, Regular became 2nd line, etc.) I think it would be a good idea, but I have no idea how hard it would be to program. I wonder if this is partly taken into account in CM. Does a sides global morale affect the way it acts on the battlefield beyond possible surrender?
10.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: [b P.S. Timers will be introduced with the TCP/IP patch.

How will the timers be affected with slower computers? I've been playing PBEM with an opponent who has a much faster CPU than I have and in larger battles my computer is somewhat sluggish. By the way, I think it's great the way BTS is supporting this game. What are we up to-4 patches? For a game that was great from day one.
11. IIRC in ASL, rarity factor wasn't included in the purchase price. I think you had to make a dice roll before picking your forces which determined which rare vehicles and guns you could choose.
12. I have a voodoo 2 1000 (PCI) and I get transparent buildings, smoke, fog, and no crashes. I haven't played any really big battles yet, but the game runs great on my machine.
