  1. Silent Hunter and X-COM were both great. I still play SH from time to time. I like Need For Speed-Porsche Unleashed. The cars actually handle somewhat realistically I think. ------------------ Smoker out.
  2. There is a small, but perhaps significant, number of Voodoo3 owners that are having major problems running CM. See "Memory Leaks?" and "Voodoo3/PC Strangeness" in the Technical section of the forum. If you have an AGP slot just get a Geforce MX. I think they're less than $150 US. Twice the video ram and 32 bit color too, not to mention a little bit faster. ------------------ Smoker out.
  3. Perhaps the white out problem has something to do with our BIOS setup. I haven't experimented in that area yet since everything else runs so well. I popped in a Geforce 256 and my problem is solved. ------------------ Smoker out.
  4. I'm running Win98 original edition, Voodoo3 3000 retail, latest approved drivers, DX7.0a, PIII 733 with Tyan Trinity 400 mobo, Soundblaster Live! Value, latest drivers, ViewSonic monitor. The game works fine when I pop in my Geforce 256. ------------------ Smoker out. [This message has been edited by Smoker (edited 08-03-2000).]
  5. That's alright if the girls don't want to decloak, at least they have been "assimilated", to quote a frequent poster. ------------------ Smoker out.
  6. I've got a question about all this. If 1st platoon's leader puts out an ambush marker, can a squad from 2nd platoon target the marker if he is in C&C of his own leader? ------------------ Smoker out.
  7. I'm 43. A little slower, a little weaker, but much smarter. ------------------ Smoker out.
  8. Incorrect info in my v1.0 manual? I missed that thread. I sure hope they post a little manual addendum, update, errata, or whatever you call it. ------------------ Smoker out.
  9. I enjoyed this one very much. It is quite tedious managing and moving all the units (Now where's that arty spotter?, but it's great fun overall. I think it would be a great PBEM battle. BTW, the scenario runs well on a PIII 733 with Geforce SDR. ------------------ Smoker out.
  10. I use the MDMP low res grass with grid. I love the grid! ------------------ Smoker out.
  11. All my 3D graphics get severely corrupted during the playback phase. Over the course of 10-20 seconds the entire screen turns white except for the interface. There is no crash or lockup, just total video corruption. I can save at that point, quit and relaunch the game and all is fine until the next "movie" phase. I'm using the latest official drivers from 3Dfx (WHQL 1.05). My card is not overclocked, and all settings are at 3Dfx default. I seem to have no problem with other software. Is anyone else experiencing this? ------------------ Smoker out.
  12. I would like people to reread the first 7 lines of Deanco's first post to this thread. Here we have a general strategy gamer who enjoys CM. This is a great thing! He said: "Hi everyone, As a newcomer to this forum, and as a person who is not a WWII buff, and as a person who in the past hated wargames because of the poor graphics, I'd like to say that the reason I hang out here is because I think CM is a great strategy game, perhaps one of the greatest ever. For me it's a game, full of strategic possibilities, a fun game. The fact that it takes place in WWII is cool in and of itself, but it's not the coolest part of it by a long shot." These are the type of newbies that can really make the sales figures for CM take off, something BTS and all the old timers would love to see. Gamers like Deanco should be VIPs on this forum. I think the main CM forum should cater to the Deanco's of the world. There are four sections to the CM forum. Why not add a fifth for scholarly discussion of wargame development and general grognard issues. The "old" forum could coexist with the "new" that way. I would call the new section something like "Grognards only, please". I've been following this forum since April of last year. I miss the "old" forum too, but the new forum is inevitable since the game is out and it is beneficial to BTS and newbies and therefore all of us. Let's have our cake and eat it too! Who wants to see a "Grognard" section added to the forum? ------------------ Smoker out.
  13. Yes, one of the great hardware mysteries. I've heard leave it at 64MB, and half your RAM, and now wide open. You know, I haven't had any problems or noticed any difference trying any of those things. The video shadowing in the BIOS is a different story. I get better performance with it set to OFF. Smoker out.
  14. I think the grid allows us to evaluate the terrain more realistically. Subtle dips and rises that can be utilized are much more readily apparent. In real life we would have no problem discerning them. Why should it be more difficult in CM? Grids for realism! No grids for eye candy. Smoker out.
  15. Bring on the grid! I love it, but it would be nice to be able to turn it off for the movies. Smoker out.
