It's because russia is losing and the war may not be over before the end of 2024. It won't look good to release a game about the war in Ukraine as the war will still be going on....
I  am pro-Ukrainian just calling it like I see it.

I hope I am wrong and this is all over soon and in a positive way for the Ukrainian people

I like all of your suggestions except this one. I think it would add unnecessary and distracting fiddliness.

The way I see it, in CM even "KIA" soldiers are not necessarily dead. They are simply hurt enough to be out of the war in the near term. WIA soldiers have a chance of being available in future campaign battles, so their wounds (if treated) must be relatively slight. If the KIA/WIA label were strictly accurate, none of them would have a chance of returning in the time frame of a CM campaign.

The addition of dedicated medics would encourage players to keep a group of unarmed teams behind the lines until the scenario was almost finished, at which point they would be rushed forward to score points by tagging wounded soldiers. That seems gamey and ahistorical.

I've been playing Combat Mission for about 25 years and I don't think anyone has any clue about this. You're best off, I think, to treat it as entirely random. Pick any action, all are just as likely to have the same result, or any other result for that matter. Go slow, go fast, back up, bail out, twist it all about. You'll bog or not entirely due to the whims of the bog god. And the bog god, may she smile upon you.

I believe that this game should stick to the fictional 2017 timeline, in an alternate reality where APS is in service and various models of tanks like Oplots and T-90s were produced in greater numbers. It's like Shock Force, where although it's inspired by real life conflicts, it's a fictional event and thus available equipment can differ from reality. I believe that the devs feel like it's in bad taste to profit off an ongoing conflict, which is the reason for the module hiatus, and therefore they are going to stick to Black Sea being a fictional 2017 conflict.

Many of the things you suggested and problems with the Russian army in the current conflict are operational/tactical/logistics issues that can already be replicated in scenario design such as lowering the morale, using older models of vehicles, etc to make scenarios that more closely resemble the current conflict.

If you make the "high-tech" stuff like APS and advanced tanks out of reach for most battles with extremely high rarity, the game will play too much like Shock Force in my opinion, and Black Sea is aiming more for a "near peer" and "near future" feel.

These are really only useful when playing in real-time. They don't have any effect during WEGO playback, and in WEGO the player has more granular control than these buttons during the orders phase.

...in the seventies and eighties, sure.
If you take a look at the Slitherine releases anytime recently, you'll note that the Normandy games far outstrip the Eastern Front ones.
It was indeed a sales tactic to stick an SS officer on the cover (Up Front is the most blatant example), or as many swastikas as you could physically fit into the game (Eastern Front Tank Leader, among others).
Fashions change. "Miniature wargaming" used to shorthand for "napoleonics", but now means Warhammer 40,000 by default.

First off thanks to all those who have supported the Battlepack by purchasing it, and a shout out to those who have provided their support in the creation of this project – and a huge shout out to those who have freely given their feedback and additional support publicly via various means – online streaming vids, DARs, AARs and various forum posts etc, Its truly heartening to read and see these.

It’s just as well, being Scottish, that we are renowned for being slow to anger and not prone to unprovoked outbursts. On a personal note a mahhoosive amount of work went into the battle pack, at my end. Work of which I am truly proud off. The lion’s share of research, mapmaking and AI plan stuff was devoted to the two campaigns and the Rakow and the Dying Sun scenario. These all involved painstakingly creating huge new maps from primary sources. Research turned up several ‘loose’ ends regarding accepted historical narrative and I’m as chuffed with these as the scenarios!

I digress… In short this sucked up a huge amount of time and I was also involved in several other projects (which I was keen to be involved in including CMFR and CMCW). Creating new content, AI plans etc for the Battlepack was a significant endeavour. So yup I used bits of various previous maps (which were my own creations and made available publicly) which I then significantly tweaked – mainly because I could not positively ID RL locations, or the fact is I thought the map – like Der Ring (which by the way took nearly a year to produce) to have a new life after some major tweaking. I’ve done this on previous game families with other maps. A few astute observers might have spotted them.

But, and I should stress this, in the case of Der Ring it was heavily reworked and I created brand new AI plans (I had to as I’d chopped and reused bits) etc. So yes whilst some stuff is based on sections of der Ring they are more the offspring – rather than the map wearing a false wig and a pair of dodgy specs…

Re the rather offensive swipes about scamming, well,  re the master maps it’s pretty clear that as stated on the BFC website that they are “New maps based on maps from the Battle Pack missions”.

Years back I used to be with a punk band – another life another story…. One of the bands (way more successful than we were) we did some gigs with, had their singer on one of their records state this quote, it was along the lines of – “Whatever you do they’ll slate you off and criticise you to the ground…” It’s stood me in good stead through life.
So aye happy to take the constructive knocks, but I’m less inclined to give credence tae whingers.

Supply chain (and training etc) issues are all available through the CM Scenario Editor.

Individual units can be rated for experience, motivation, fitness, leadership, supply, headcount, and the status of vehicles (destroyed, immobilized, etc.). These all affect behavior on the ground after the game starts.
Larger logistical issues can be reflected in these stats, although they cannot be changed (without further editing) in scenarios already available. I imagine scenario designers will be downgrading their Russians in future offerings.

The "Control--Freedom" axis is inadequate because it ignores the question of "Freedom for whom?" Freedom and opportunity aren't always equally distributed.
A slavery-based system looks like near-total freedom to the slaveowner. What if we ask the slave? The same goes for a traditional underclass.
When we remember this, we find ourselves going back to a more traditional Right/Left model, in which freedom/wealth/etc are reserved for privileged groups or expanded to the wider populace.

The story is that the Army is moving away from the M4/M16 to a new assault rifle based on a 6.8mm round (about halfway between today's 5.56mm and the old 7.62mm round).
Game-wise, it'll be along eventually. In real-world terms it reflects that infantry body armor calls for heavier ammo.

I do think it's an interesting discussion, but it has also crowded out any comfortable ability to drop in once or twice a day and monitor the forums for patch, mod, or scenario news.

Yes, problem was we corrected some versions, including titles which cause duplication.  Simply delete the older versions and you are good to go.  Most edits were to the briefings because there were comments on grammar and writing.  So we hired a professional writer and they scrubbed every briefing and title.  There are still a few errors, I am sure but a lot less than before.  A few scenarios got minor in-game edits as well but these were minor tweaks here and there.
    Enjoy.

And IRL there is the whole other dimension of are you actually going to get any of that artillery that was promised to you?
Shifting priority of fires, counter battery, battery is relocating.... List goes on. In reality the fires might be almost instant in perfect conditions or not arrive at all at the worst. CM has to condense these factors to a single static time.
