  1. Do the british infantry battalions have any other MGs organic to them? It sound like a lot less compared to the other nations. I've become used to one MG coy per infantry battalion. Here it sounds like one MG plt per infantry battalion?

  3. The withdraw command is even worse morale wise since it carries a morale hit with it. Often you will have troops pannicing just from receiving the order. The advantage of it is that there is a very short command delay involved. It's a "get the heck out of there" command. I concur with the difficulty of conducting a fighting withdrawal. If the terrain won't admitt breaking LOS quickly you are bound to have a world of trouble keeping your boys from routing.
  4. I never go for crack units, regular is good enough for me, occasionally veteran for key units in the AT-war. Quantity is far better than quality is most cases.
  5. Very good read indeed. It clearly shows the advantages of having a wheeled and digitized ICV. It will be interesting to see how it turns out in CMSF when the opposition is more than small arms, RPGs and light mortars. [ March 27, 2007, 04:38 AM: Message edited by: Bonxa ]

For a while I thought this was Head GM Tim doing promo under the name of Fritz Lahm, and only for the german side. I'm now on track but would you please write out in your above posts what are your own words and what are the words of GM Tim. cheers!

    A strong magnetic field should be enough to deflect an ion beam (and that's not SF). Would be a nice optical effect (but perhaps tough on the computers) to see the ionbeams curl away.

  9. I just had an idea to improve the mobility of the infantry, perhaps enabling a heavier infantry without jumpjets. What I'm thinking about is including an APC organic to the squad. You switch command between the riflemen and the APC just as you now switch between the different soldiers. The APC would of course require it's own AI so it doesn't try to follow the squad on it's adventures (not per default at least). The idea is to drive up in your combat taxi, with the squad on board, and disembark in a safe spot (eg behind a hill). Then you switch to commanding your disembarked squad while the APC remains behind. If you need to displace you march back to your APC or you drive the APC up to the grunts. Voila, you're on your way again. Sounds good? Would it be hard to implement gamewise?
  10. I like, an original idea. As you say the turret needs some work. It reminds me of the soviet WWII era tanks and assault guns, they tended to be "front heavy" so to say. I suppose the idea is to minimize target area when hull down? A way to make the front look better and perhaps improve protection of the tracks would be to "lower" the front lower hull plate. Keep the same angle but move it forwards a little. This would increase the not so sloped "nose" of the vehicle perhaps presenting a somewhat weaker point. But I like vehicles with small weaknesses. Makes for fun trying to hit them/conceal them. If the main chassis is given only Apollo like armor I guess one could argue for Apollo like speed as well. The turret on the other hand needs good protection from the front at least. I see some kind of wedgy design there.

  12. My dream for a recon vehicle/raider would be a Shrike with a ~105 mm recoilless gun shooting HEAT rounds only. Perhaps a light COAX MG with limited ammo to give it self-defese capability against infantry. It's sole defense is extreme mobility and speed while retaining capability to kill even the heaviest AFVs with sideshots. Should excel at Top Hat Low Ski drills. Now, how do you switch weapons on a model? A first step would be to smack the 120 mm gun on the shrike while removing the AP ammo.
  13. Hm, never thought about having height as a parameter. Was this with the "move" command?
  14. No indirect firing I'm afraid. Only mortars can do that with the aid of a HQ unit spotting for them (area fire only).
  15. I think the answer to 1 is 25 meters. Is reasonable to assume area fire has a 25 meter radius as well? You can always do some testing with the editor to find out for sure.

  17. That's the first one calling CMMC's operational area small! I would not compare the projects tough. In CMMC the historical roleplaying and the operational battle is a least as important as the CMBB battles.

  19. It's option a) I very much like the combination of move to contact and a covered arc. The thing is the move to contact order will only react to things inside the arc or if the unit comes under fire. Thus it can be used as an order to move until fired upon. Very handy. Can also be combined with a hide order. Now, you have to think through what kind of reaction you want to something happening at different places in relation to the unit. I will usually shift my cover arcs to face in the direction of movement. But in this case, with a short movement, you may want to keep the original arc. That way the unit will turn stop and engage targets to the north as they pop up. If you still want the house to be covered you will need to adjust the arc so that it will cover it also from the new location, making it bigger. Helpfull?
  20. Possibly CMX2 WWII might replace CMBB. But not even that is certain.

  22. Once they come under fire that pins them they will loose their skiis for the rest of the battle. Thus the increased mobility is only available until you bring them into the fight.

  24. Interesting for sure! I wonder what you base this on though? Does it relate to CMBB in some manner or is it knowledge condensed from reading many different sources?
