  1. Sadly Charles is swamped by game stopper technical bugs right now and can't work on the gameplay related ones until the game runs for everybody. (As far as I understand things.) But eventually he will get there. And yes, I'm a patient SOB.
  2. The sluggishness when using shift and ctrl can be worked around by changing the priority of CM with the task manager. Just set it to normal rather than above normal. Now if someone could tell me how one does this permanently in stead of having to alt-tab out every time I start up I would be very glad.
  3. I just played through a nice red vs red QB in a hilly map (vs AI). I was defending with republican guards with regular army guys coming at me. Both forces mixed armor/mech. It was great fun! Now to the oddities, the T72M1V (2001) tanks I got engaged some infantry. They started out with MGs but then something went BOOM. I naturally thought this to be their HE rounds but looking at the ammo remaining I soon realized they used their AT-11 ATGMs? Then when the enemy T62MV tanks drove into their sights they used first HE and later a mix of HEAT and sabot. Is this behaviour due to modelling the round in the breach? Ie you have to shoot out whatever is in there before you can load something else. Another sequence was late in the game when I moved up my BMP2s to clear out the remaining enemey troops. As it happened there was one T62 left and it promptly smoked one BMP. The other one gained LOS to the tank without being engaged in return. I gave the targetting order in hope to get to see an AT5 fly off and kill the tank (or even cooler if it would be blocked by the T62s reactive armor). But my BMP started to pummel the tank with its 30 mm gun. Only after firing several salvos over some 30 seconds did it make a longer pause (aiming) and then let go with the AT5. Had the tank been a bit more alert my BMP would have died for sure. Or did the BMP AI feel it needed to strip of the reactive armor before firing the ATGM? I can't wait to play this baby verus a real opponent.
  4. Very, very funny! Thanks for a good start on the day!
  5. Except for lack of WEGO in TCP/IP I can't see where WEGO is anywhere an afterthought? Sure, many people seem to prefer RT now but WEGO is still very much there. As I play bigger and bigger battles I will for sure switch to WEGO and it's a necessity for PBEM. I do enjoy RT for smaller battles though, they take a lot less time to play through this way.
  6. Working just fine for me. You have to do some pretty detailed orders to avoid the pathfinding problems but it's definitely playable in my opinion. The lack of a proper morale system is more worrying though. Not much of that old going to ground and crawling back to cover when you take fire.
  7. I have to join the choir and say that I love the new system. This was one area I thought lacking in CMx1 and you did it just right this time. But I have also lacked the following: -adjust fire (it's there but not working) -smoke -count-down timer -confirm/cancel is easily forgotten
  8. Nice find! It solved my mini freezes when using the ctrl and shift keys and I'm just using a generic mouse with no special software installed.
  9. Yeah, works just like in CMx1 if that is familiar.
  10. WinXP SP2 AMD64 3000+ (2GHz?) 512 MB RAM Radeon 9600 Pro (latest drivers) Runs like a charm even on pretty big missions like the first campaign mission.
  11. I second the veteran plus level. I like elite except for the lack of order giving while paused. It makes RT difficult with large forces. And as far as I have understood there are direct hotkeys for the various command panels. Will have to check out the numpad stuff also.
  12. I find that if you anticipate a little bit with regards to turning radius you can get very good results with regards to pathfinding and facing. There is no penalty to many waypoints for a vehicle anymore.
  13. I'm having a blast! The immersion with the excellent sound and graphics is awesome. With hopes that the minor quibbles will be worked out this game is a worthy succesor to my all time favorite CM series.
  14. Yeah, it looks like tanks and MGSs don't fire away on their own except on high threat targets. Using cover arc makes them more likely to fire though (I think).
  15. I got 1500+ here in Sweden, and I was over an hour late from the e-mail arrival.
  16. Running pretty fine on the following system: 1.8 GHz AMD 512 MB DDR RAM ATI 9600 My laptop was a bit worse but that's because I'm having problems updating my video drivers which are over a year old... My first impressions are that this is combat mission for sure but it will take a little bit of getting used to. Camera controls are fine for me, as is real time. The immersion is very good from the get go. Tool tips would be very nice though, but I have already started reading the f***ing manual.
  17. Would it be possible to utilize BitTorrent in the distribution? It would seem to be ideal in this case where there are a lot of people who want to download the same thing at the same time. Since you have an e-license system this should be doable, no?
  18. Salary arrive today so take down one more pre-order. Now I just have to spend some on my old puter to make it run the game decently.
  19. Same here, been playing CM since June 2000 with no sign of a let up.
  20. During my service in Sweden we used active ear protection. It worked pretty well, you could even get slight amplification of low level sound. Still, it's not the "real thing". Anyone heard of such things being tried in combat? Or is the fear of batteries dying in the wrong moment too high?
  21. Here's another one who has found a big interest in the eastern front, mainly due to CMBB (and it's offspring CMMC2). So pretty please make many a module depicting the eastern front.
  22. Thanks for the quick and enlightened answer!
  23. No, In CM I have certainly discovered "hidden" dead soldiers from eg an earlier arty strike only when I later got close. The exception to this is vehicles that light up, for those you see the smoke column rising but nothing else.
  24. It might be of interest to add just token air support for the syrians for use in Red on Red scenarios however. It can't be very hard for BF to put in there since it doesn't require any extra modelling. Just make it like the most basic US air attack.
